LOST: Confirmed Dead

February 8, 2008 By theTVaddict 6 Comments

To those critics who said last night’s installment of LOST was the weaker of what was most likely supposed to be a two-hour season premiere (pre-WGA strike), this TV Addict says, “What are you smoking?!” Last night’s episode was, for lack of a better word (since my head is still reeling with questions) incredible. And thus commences my senseless ramble which I’m cleverly calling last night’s LOST LOVEFEST.

Loved the reveal that these four mysterious strangers are coming after Ben! Loved new castaway Daniel Faraday’s line, “I’m not in charge of packing.” Loved the polar bear skeleton! Loved drunken pilot Frank Lapidus who was supposed to fly Oceanic 815 (Why exactly did he miss that flight?). Loved Sawyer mocking Locke’s Ghost Walt vision (Who hasn’t had the occasional ghost vision themselves?). Loved the fact that Miles Strom is a Ghostbuster (Cue theme song: Who ya’ gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!). Loved everything about Charlotte Staples Lewis (Accents are sexy). Loved the Oceanic 815 phone number casually posted on the television (Who tried calling 888-548-0034?). Loved the fact that Ben has a man on the boat (Who’s got money that we’re seeing the return of Michael next week?). Love the fact that Locke asked Ben the one question on every fans mind from day one “What’s is the Monster!” And better still, that Ben’s answer was a very sincere, “I don’t know.” (Does he really not know?). Loved the fact that rescuing the survivors of Oceanic 815 doesn’t seem to this mysterious foursomes “primary objective.”

In fact, the only thing I didn’t love about last night, is the realization this morning that we’ve got to wait six more days to find out what happens next! What did you LOVE about last night’s LOST?

Amrie’s Take on TV: Best Actresses of 2007

December 18, 2007 By theTVaddict 10 Comments

And then there were 2! In 2 weeks, it’ll be 2008. I have to say wow again. As promised, I’m back this week with my Favorite Actresses of 2007. Before we jump in and start my list of fabulous ladies, big apologies to Edward James Olmos, Alec Baldwin, and Jon Hamm from Mad Men for not including them on my Actor list!!

Here we have my top “11” favorite actresses from 2007, and some honorable mentions. Believe me, I’m sure there are people missing, and I’m sure I’ll read your comments and know that I was wrong to exclude someone amazing, but here’s where I am right now (I used a lot of leeway on that top “11” list. There are definitely way more than 11 that made it)!

Connie Britton, Tami Taylor, Friday Night Lights
I sing Connie Britton’s praises just about every 5 seconds of every single day. She is gorgeous, she is fantastic, she makes me believe in her pains and struggles and just everything that Tami is going through. I believe that she loves her husband (Coach Eric Taylor) and that she is trying to do the best she can for her daughters and all the students at Dillon. She could easily be another football coach’s wallflower wife, but the way the character is written, and the way Connie plays it, she jumps off the screen. The fact that she isn’t getting accolades and awards and nominations just blows my mind.

The Women of the 13 colonies, Mary McDonnell (President Roslin), Tricia Helfer (Gina/Six), Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck), Grace Park (Boomer/Sharon), Michele Forbes (Admiral Cain), Battlestar Galactica
I didn’t want to get involved in what I called “another SciFi show that won’t hold my interest.” Then I watched one episode and I was hooked. Season 3 and the mid-way movie Razor just prove that these women deserve shelves upon shelves of awards because of how downright mind-blowing they are. I don’t want Roslin to die from the cancer that’s going to eventually over take her (I mean, she is the dying leader from the prophecy, right?). Like Michael C. Hall’s Dexter (a killer), who I shouldn’t identify with, I completely identify with Helfer’s Six and Gina, Cylons who just want the best for their own race. Grace Park is wonderful, so moving. Michele Forbes exudes awesomeness. And Sackhoff? She is just cool. And angry, and awesome. And big props to her for making a few of the scenes in Bionic Woman remotely watchable.

The Pie Hos, Kristen Chenowith (Olive Snook,) and Anna Friel (Charlotte Chuck Charles), Pushing Daisies
Olive is so in love with Ned. And she’s such a good dog-sitter of Digby. And she’s the perfect foil to Chuck. And she’s a great friend to Lily and Vivian. And I love her interaction with Emerson. She’s charming, and she speaks quickly, and she sings, and she dances. I’ve been a fan of hers for years, and it’s nice to see her getting celebrated for such a perfect role for her! Anna Friel is delicious. She plays her role with such wide eyed abandon. She’s so wounded and damaged, and dying to be loved, and missing the ladies she does love, and I love this role and I’m so happy that it was written and she was cast.

Jenny’s This Week on TV

December 9, 2007 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

Welcome to a new week for This Week on TV! Weeee! Only a few weeks til Christmas. I’m so excited! Christmas takes on a whole different feel when you have kids. For me, I enjoy giving my son gifts so much more than I enjoy getting them myself. We have some BIG gifts for him this year so I can’t wait to see his face when he opens up the boxes on Christmas day. Speaking of Christmas, let’s see what’s on the plate for this week on TV because new episodes of my favorite shows are just like gifts to me!

Sunday

Sunday is the season premiere of The Girls Next Door on E! at 10/9c. It’s Independence Day at the mansion. What will the women get into now?

Tonight is also the series premiere of Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood on E! at 10:30/9:30c. The rapper’s family life is seriously funny business; the doors of the Dogg Pound will be thrown open wide. hah

If you were a fan of Saved By the Bell and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, check out Holiday in Handcuffs, starring Melissa Joan Hart and Mario Lopez. It’s on ABC Family at 8/7c and is about a waitress that kidnaps a customer and forces him to pretend to be her beau to fool her parents. I adore both of them, so I can’t wait!

You Be the Critic: PRIVATE PRACTICE

December 6, 2007 By theTVaddict 7 Comments

On last night’s PRIVATE PRACTICE, things finally started to get interesting. And while “Old Man Fight Club” is guaranteed water-cooler fodder — the moment this TV Addict’s going to highlight is all about Addison. It’s about time she got back in touch with the strong and sensible Doctor she left behind at Seattle Grace. Did anyone else crack a smile when a gorgeous Addison [finally] stepped it up and walked into Kevin’s [David Sutcliffe] Fire Department?

Creator Shonda Rhimes is no dummy. She knows the first rule of fight club good drama — the love triangle. In fact, thanks to Addison/Pete/Kevin, Naomi/Dell/Sam and Cooper/Violet/Charlotte — PRIVATE PRACTICE is all about the triangle. Which means, whenever the WGA strike ends, PRIVATE PRACTICE may finally star living up to the hype. Agree, Disagree, Post away.

Channel Surfing with C.T.

November 4, 2007 By theTVaddict 11 Comments

I love weekends if for no other reason that it’s my time to veg on the couch and catch up with the past week’s shows. Today, I started with UGLY BETTY, which I was psyched about because of the whole Wicked tie-in. But truth be told, the scenes involving the Broadway hit were the least successful part of an otherwise pretty great episode. For one thing, I was annoyed on behalf of everyone in the theater when Betty was texting Henry and then arguing with Daniel. Just as when it happens in real life, I wanted someone to boot their butts. And as much as I love the music from Wicked, the only scene in which it really worked for me was the beautiful montage set to “I’m Not That Girl.” But how much to I love Cliff and Marc? They may be my favorite couple since… well, Marc and Wilhelmina. Or maybe Marc and Amanda.

I finally realized why I’m so head over heels for WOMEN’S MURDER CLUB: It’s a weird combination of HART TO HART, MATLOCK, MURDER SHE WROTE and even CHARLIE’S ANGELS. I mean, seriously, when the ladies began investigating the deaths at the senior center and met the horny old guy, it was just silly fun. And in typical 80’s-TV style, the bad guy pulled a gun and started firing indiscriminately as Angie Harmon gave chase and elderly folks shrieked, culminating in Angie tackling the guy – as we knew she would – into a conveniently placed pond. Good times.

I’m happy to report that GREY’S ANATOMY renaissance continues. I’ll admit to never having been a huge Kathrine Heigl fan before this show. I always found her the weak link in the ROSWELL cast. But man, did she rock that fantastic monologue in which Izzy begged off sex with George because she was too tired. It was also another episode filled with great quotes, most of them — as usual — coming from Christina. “Being aware of your crap and actually overcoming your crap are two very different this,” she told Meredith in what may be the truest words ever spoken. And if I didn’t already love Dr. Hahn, I’d have been a goner for sure when she dubbed Derek and Mark “pretty and prettier.”
