Showcase Renews TRAVELERS for Second Season
Showcase has announced a second season renewal for TRAVELERS, with production beginning this March in Vancouver. Season 2 will air on Showcase in Fall 2017 and on Netflix internationally. Here’s what we know so far about the new season: “Season 2 of TRAVELERS picks up on the group’s haunting realization that their missions may have altered the future in ways they did not predict.”
“From LOST GIRL to CONTINUUM, Showcase has a proven track record for delivering quality, homegrown hits,” said Daniel Eves, Senior Vice President, Kids and General Entertainment, Corus Entertainment. “TRAVELERS is an exemplary production that spotlights Canadian talent on screen and off and it’s an honour to add Brad Wright’s latest masterpiece to our roster of critically-acclaimed original series.”
Series Writer and Creator Brad Wright returns, along with series leads Eric McCormack, Jared Abrahamson, Nesta Cooper, Reilly Dolman, Patrick Gilmore, and MacKenzie Porter.
MARVEL’S IRON FIST Preview: The Prodigal Son Returns
Danny Rand has been away from his home for a long time when we meet him in Netflix’s newest Marvel series: IRON FIST.
According to the official synopsis for the show: “Billionaire Danny Rand (Finn Jones) returns to New York City after being missing for years, trying to reconnect with his past and his family legacy. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.”
Rand is one of four main characters in Netflix’s THE DEFENDERS, which is set to unit Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist in an epic multi-hero showdown.
IRON FIST will begin streaming on Netflix on Friday, March 17.
STRANGER THINGS Season 2 Trailer Debuts During the Super Bowl
Commercials have become as big a part of the Super Bowl as football itself and fans of STRANGER THINGS got their first real look at season 2 of last summer’s sleeper hit Netflix series.
At the end of season 1, young Will had been saved from the mysterious Upside Down world, although it seems he may have brought back one of the creatures that had imprisoned him in that dimension. In addition, Eleven had sacrificed herself to save Will, but her true fate was unknown. Had she been killed forever? Likely not, since breakout star Millie Bobby Brown showed up in a table read photo for the new season tweeted out by the show’s official Twitter account.
Our first look at season 2 (which can be seen below) starts with an old Eggo Waffles commercial before quickly transitioning to scenes from the new season of STRANGER THINGS.
We also know that Sean Astin will be joining the kast as Bob Newby, a former nerd who went to high school with Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the Hawkins RadioShack. In addition, Paul Reiser will play Dr. Owens, a Department of Energy employee who is responsible for cleaning up the mess from last year.
STRANGER THINGS will return for its second season on Halloween on Netflix.
SANTA CLARITA DIET: Escaping The Normality of a Suburban Life…With Zombies
Joel and Sheila are your average couple when we first meet them in the premiere of Netflix’s newest original series, SANTA CLARITA DIET. These two realtors live with their teenage daughter Abby in the suburbs of L.A. and there’s nothing remarkable about them at all. In fact, they’re a bit boring and disconnected from each other….and Joel is a little too obsessed with the loose knob on his toaster oven. But things change when Sheila vomits up….well, almost everything inside of her, including an organ.
Suddenly she’s craving more sex with her husband, going out with her girlfriends and has boundless energy. Joel, on the other hand, is concerned about the fact that his wife now has no pulse and is very, very different from the woman she used to be. Now she’s snacking on their realtor-nemesis in the backyard and he’s trying to figure out how to keep her fed while also keeping their marriage together (and her new zombie state a secret).
SANTA CLARITA DIET is a twist on both zombie shows and the suburban comedy. Drew Barrymore is lighthearted as an average woman who is adjusting to her newfound undead status. Timothy Olyphant, meanwhile, drops the more serious acting chops he honed in DEADWOOD or JUSTIFIED and plays against type. He’s mostly a mild-mannered dad, but you’ll chuckle as he starts going slightly crazy from the unpredictability of his situation.
There’s also heart at the center of SANTA CLARITA DIET. While the gore is plentiful, the show is really about a family trying to stay together in the face of unusual circumstances.
SANTA CLARITA DIET is available to stream worldwide on Netflix as of Friday, February 3.
