Ask the Addict: Spoilers for SUPERNATURAL, TRUE BLOOD, NIKITA, 90210 & More!
As a 90210 fan who is still reeling from Naomi’s unexpected pregnancy reveal at the end of last season, I’m curious if you have any ideas as to just how the show plans on dealing with it come season 4? — Allie
The TV Addict: Assuming of course new showrunners Patti Carr and Lara Olsen bother to stick with last season’s somewhat out of left field baby bump bombshell, we can assure you that the pregnancy will have very little effect on Naomi. At least if the first two episodes of the season are any indication, which according to reports will not just see Naomi continue to be the life of the party, but do so in a manner that will catch the attention of both the authorities and the Dean of California University. Ouch!
Season 7 of SUPERNATURAL cannot come soon enough! Any scoop? — Noam
The TV Addict: Entitled “The Girl Next Door,” SUPERNATURAL’s much anticipated seventh season will kick off by not just introducing fans to an old flame friend of Sam’s, but will flashback to Sam and Dean’s teenage years where we’ll meet, as the episode’s title suggests, the girl next door… a beautiful girl who in typical SUPERNATURAL fashion harbours a terrible, emphasis on the terrible, secret. Tackling the World of NECESSARY ROUGHNESS with Marc Blucas, Scott Cohen and EP Craig Shapiro
When art imitates life, it is often more truthful than reality itself. In USA Network’s new series NECESSARY ROUGHNESS, in a twist of fate, a psychotherapist finds her personal life derailed just as her professional life takes off.
Based on a true story, the show manages to find the truth and trueness of some extraordinary stories (albeit fictionally depicted), but which echo the real world and everything seen in the news. Celebrities, sports figures, politicians and Wall Street wizards all have one thing in common – a breaking point. In NECESSARY ROUGHNESS, it is Dr. Dani Santino’s job to bring back these high-powered individuals from their breaking points. She spotlights or highlights the stress-fractures in their professional/personal lives and teaches them to manage that stress. Therapy is not always the most octane-fueled subject matter, but when looking at the lives of a professional football star, a high-stakes gambler, a radio or television personality, a CEO or even a race car driver, suddenly the inside-look at their lives and how they cope is just a bit more fascinating. After all, who wouldn’t want to be able to know what they are talking about behind closed doors?
NECESSARY ROUGHNESS introduces us to Dr. Dani Santino, brilliantly and deftly portrayed by Callie Thorne, who helps such talented and privileged individuals. But like a mirror does not just one side, each of these glittering stars and celebrities has a side that hides their fears and insecurities – all which combusts or manifests in negative ways threatening their successful professional lives. And like her clients, Dani is not just a great therapist, helping those who do not even know they need help, she too needs a bit of help as her personal life disintegrates. With a divorce, nasty allegations, rebellious teenage children and a mother with a propensity for eavesdropping, Dani must find a balance in her own life. With humor, resilience and some surprising allies, Dani learns to navigate a world of high-stakes and even tougher personalities. It will intrigue you and delight you as you discover the world of NECESSARY ROUGHNESS.
Taking a few moments to talk about the show and what is all about are executive producer Craig Shapiro, along with stars Marc Blucas, Scott Cohen, Hannah Marks and Patrick Johnson (To read more from Callie Thorne about her role as Dr. Dani, visit this article.) Mark Blucas portrays Matthew Donnally, a sports trainer for the Atlanta Hawks football team. Scott Cohen portrays Nico Careles, the Atlanta Hawks’ fixer. Hannah Marks and Patrick Johnson portray Lindsay and Ray J, the teenage children of Dr. Dani Santino. [Read more…]

Time Jumps! Guest Stars! Road Trips! Executive Producers Andrew Lenchewski and Michael Rauch Share Secrets from the Third Season of ROYAL PAINS
As USA Network’s series ROYAL PAINS returns for its third season, we find out what is next for the Lawsons, Hank and Evan, and their father Eddie Lawson, last seen headed off to prison. The show picks up nine months later to see the aftermath of so many momentous changes in their lives. But as the Lawsons discover, no matter how many surprises and curve balls that life throws at them, they are still bound by their enduring love and intertwined destinies.
What can you tell us about the one year time jump and how will this effect the various relationships on the show between the characters?
Andrew Lenchewski: Well, it’s not quite a year. I mean what we’re doing is the first two seasons were in one summer and now we’re jumping to the next summer. So we’re going about a little under a nine-month time jump from the end of Summer 1 of the Royal Pains life to the beginning of Summer 2.
Michael Rauch: That’s been one of the challenges and one of the fun parts for us — how do you keep the characters in larger arcs going even though there’s been basically a bunch of seasons that we haven’t played and we haven’t seen and the audience hasn’t seen. It’s one of the reasons why we ended Season 2 the way we did with a lot of people going away so we could come back in Season 3 with getting into what happened while they were gone. A continuation of some storylines and some surprises that happened in the time we didn’t play. [Read more…]

In this continuing series, we give you the scoop on some of the most highly-anticipated shows of the season, with today’s focus being the CW’s perfect companion piece to THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, THE SECRET CIRCLE

Ask the Addict: Spoilers for TRUE BLOOD, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, 90210 & More!
Although I’ve really been enjoying all the scoop you’ve been posting from Sunday’s MuchMusic Video Awards, I couldn’t help but notice that we haven’t heard anything from THE VAMPIRE DIARIES’ Kat Graham, who I know for a fact was in attendance! Any reason why? — Jess
The TV Addict: Simply put, much like her stunning dress, Graham was holding her cards a little too close to the vest when it came to sharing season three spoilers. Well, except to reveal that there is one thing we’re fairly certain she won’t be worrying about when it comes to what’s in store for Bonnie during the third season of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES. That thing of course being: Death! “Technically, I already died in the second season finale, so I’m not too worried,” joked Graham when asked if she was at all concerned with Jeremy’s history of dearly-departed girlfriends. “Plus, it certainly helps that the characters have such a huge fan base rooting for them.”
Any word on what creator Marc Cherry has up his sleeve for DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES traditional season long mystery this fall? — Zoe
The TV Addict: Not so much of a word, as an inkling that said mystery might have a little something to do with the newest arrival on the lane. According to sources, Producers have quietly been on the look out for a love interest for Vanessa Williams’ Renee, who moves into town along with his out-of-control teenaged daughter to escape his crazy ex-wife who not surprisingly enough may not be too far behind. The Inside Scoop on USA Network’s New Series SUITS: Interviews with Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty, Rick Hoffman and EP Doug Liman
In a miraculous stroke of good fortune, USA Network opened the doors of its brand new drama series SUITS to the press so that we could see what is really going on in the hallowed halls of the fictional law offices of Pearson Harden. As can be seen from the set photos, it was rare chance to see a new show being built from the ground up – to watch the glass tower world of New York City be rebuilt in a Toronto film studio. Providing their exclusive insight on their characters and the secret ingredient to this new show were stars Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty, Rick Hoffman and executive producer Doug Liman. (Unfortunately Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle were tied up filming and were not available for interviews that day.)
SUITS invites viewers into a world where it is the ultimate con: a hotshot lawyer takes a genius kid and passes him off as an attorney working within his firm. Whether it is a game, a con or something more, the surprising friendship and relationships that arise out of this masterful illusion makes for surprising and compelling television. Meeting the actors who brought these intriguing characters to life helped explain some of that mystery – with good casting comes great characters. And even better yet, the secret to a successful television series. [Read more…]
A Few Candid Questions With Doug Liman, Executive Producer of USA Network’s New Series SUITS
Sharing a bit about USA Network’s new series SUITS, in a recent conference call, executive producer Doug Liman (Pictured above, green tshirt) revealed the genesis and secret ingredients of this new show about the ultimate con: conning the ultimate con men, lawyers. In a brilliant strategic maneuver, a Harvard lawyer hires a young man with no legal credentials to be his right-hand man in the hallowed halls of New York City’s finest law firm.
What can you tell us about SUITS and what we can expect from the first season?
Doug Liman: Well, SUITS is at its heart an amazing buddy story between Gabriel Macht and Patrick Adams’ characters, and at the same time it is a legal show. But it’s unlike any other legal show you might have seen because it doesn’t take place in the courtrooms. It’s really about hitting the jackpot and working at one of the elite New York City law firms where you’re young, you work crazy long hours — but you make a ton of money. And that’s the situation that Patrick Adams’s character finds himself in. He’s doing all of that without ever actually having to go to law school and there’s the threat that at some point he’ll be found out and he’ll have to leave the ball. And Gabriel Macht plays his boss and his mentor. The thing that I love about television — especially working at USA Network — is that it is about characters, and this show is so much more about the dynamic between these characters than it is about solving the case of the week. They have the chemistry — which you can see when you watch the ads — the chemistry between Patrick and Gabriel is extraordinary. [Read more…]
A Glimpse From Behind the Curtain: COVERT AFFAIRS Set Visit and Interviews With Piper Perabo, Chris Gorham, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Kari Matchett, Eoin Bailey and EP Doug Liman
Every once in a while the stars align and a wish is granted. In this case, a very special glimpse behind the curtain of the smash hit summer series COVERT AFFAIRS. Invited to attend a special press day at the COVERT AFFAIRS film set in Toronto, Canada, the press were not only given an in-depth tour of all the sets, but we also had the chance to interview a few of the people who make the magic happen, including stars Piper Perabo, Chris Gorham, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Kari Matchett, special guest Eion Bailey, and executive producer Doug Liman. (Alas, M.I.A. that day were co-stars Peter Gallagher and Anne Dudek who were not on set filming that day.)
The sets of the CIA headquarters (including Auggie’s office, Annie’s desk, Joan’s office, and Arthur’s office) were as grand and prestigious in real life as they look on screen. Just as lush and yet a bit more intimate were the sets of Annie’s bedroom, Danielle’s kitchen and Joan and Arthur’s house — a brand new set which viewers will be seeing very soon. Thus, it was with much excitement and near giddy glee as we all walked around gawking at the built to scale interiors of the all too familiar settings. Being fans of the show, it was a privilege to walk amongst the fictional world that we all loved to peek inside each week.
As if wandering through the hallowed halls of the mock-CIA sets were not enough, we were also allowed to watch a few live action scenes from an upcoming episode. Due to the confidential nature of the filming, suffice it to say, it was a pleasant surprise to see Eion Bailey, who plays Ben Mercer, again.
Life in the COVERT AFFAIRS world is as glamorous and action-packed as one can imagine. The activity just never stopped. It was a great pleasure that each of the cast members and executive producer Doug Liman took a few moments out of their busy schedules to share a few candid thoughts about the show. In fact, Mr. Liman made a special trip via his personal plane in which he flew directly to the set. It sure makes a grand entrance when a television producer lands his plane right in the parking lot outside the studio. It was a remarkable and generous gesture that he was willing to literally pop in and talk about the amazing world of COVERT AFFAIRS! [Read more…]
