We Preview PARKS AND RECREATION Season 4 with Executive Producer Mike Schur (feat. Aziz Ansari)
In anticipation of tongiht’s much-anticipated fourth season premiere of PARKS AND RECREATION, theTVaddict.com thought now might be as good a time as any to run our brief one-one-one that was hilarious interrupted by Pawnee’s own Aziz Ansari at the recent Television Critics Association Press Tour in Los Angeles. So just what did Schur have to say about Ben’s backstory, Leslie’s political aspirations and the single biggest thing he’s excited about fans seeing on the upcoming fourth season of the hit NBC comedy. Find out for yourself, after the jump. [Read more…]
Channel Surfing: SURVIVOR, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, THE SOUP & More!
Ladies and gents, allow us to make a not-so-bold prediction: NBC’s new sitcom FREE AGENTS will be the first new show to bite the dust. “What the hell is FREE AGENTS?” you are no doubt asking. Well, let us tell you: It is a sitcom that debuted Wednesday night with absolutely no fanfare and apparently flew so under the radar at the network that nobody noticed a boom mike made it into a shot in the opening scene. The best thing about the show? Anthony Stewart Head (much loved as BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER’s Giles) was the only true stand-out in the show, bringing a bit of spark to the stereotypical out-of-touch-with-reality boss.
Why will tonight’s episode of THE SOUP be must-see? Because it could well be host Joel McHale’s last chance to mock BACHELOR PAD’s Vienna and Casey now that the show is over. By the way, if you’re not watching THE SOUP, you should be. McHale — who might well be both the hardest working and funniest guy currently on television — and his team keep the laughs coming at a breakneck pace. Plus, at least twice per week you’ll find yourself saying, “Really? There’s a television show called (insert name here)” only to then be presented with a clip of HILLBILLY HANDFISHIN’ that will leave you unsure whether to set the DVR or light a candle and pray for our immortal souls.
After having gotten a tad bogged down by the tale in which virginal Hope competes with tramp-in-training Steffy for the heart (and naughty bits) of lucky Liam, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL seems to be getting itself back on track thanks to the battle brewing at Forrester Creations. After years of having slaved in the basement, it looks as if Thorne is teaming up with equally-downtrodden Taylor to stage a corporate coup! For years, fans have complained about the lack of airtime devoted to Thorne, who’s always been treated like a second-class citizen by everyone from the writers to his mother, Stephanie. It looks as if an epic storm is brewing now that Thorne and Taylor have joined forces (and locked lips… despite the fact she kinda ran down and killed his former wife, Darla… bygones!).
The latest edition of SURVIVOR got off to a decent start. While some criticized the show for bringing Ozzy and Coach back for their third go-rounds, it turns out that having two familiar faces in a crowd of newbies does sort of help avoid that feeling of “Who are all these people?” And let’s face it: Watching Clueless Coach struggle with that opening-challenge puzzle — which created tension in his tribe right from the get-go — was entertaining. But the big question to emerge from the premiere: How the heck long does Brandon think he can avoid taking off his shirt and exposing the tattoos that will out him as Russell’s nephew?
While THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS hasn’t been doing much right these days, fans were thrilled to learn that Melody Thomas Scott has inked a new deal and will be bringing longtime heroine Nikki back to Genoa City. The stripper-turned-socialite has been much missed since a contract dispute sent the character off the rehab and her portrayer off the canvas.
Marc Blucas and Terrell Owens Tease Tonight’s NECESSARY ROUGHNESS Season Finale
The newcomer series about a therapist who becomes personally and professionally entangled in the lives of a football team ends its freshman series with an epic showdown. Recruiting real-life football legend Terrell Owens to portray a rival of T.K. (delightfully portrayed by Mehcad Brooks), the season finale pits T.K. against his worst nightmare: his long-time arch nemesis, Kevin the Minefield, played by Terrell. Refereeing the melee is team trainer, Matt Donnally (deftly portrayed by Marc Blucas). Life for the fictional New York Hawks is messy both on and off the field, but for the actors, it was a whole lot of fun. In a fun press call, Marc and Terrell took time out of their busy schedules to chat about the season finale. [Read more…]

THE OFFICE Scoop: James Spader Teases His Return to THE OFFICE
Were you one of a handful of loyal fans that was somewhat taken aback by the surprise announcement that James Spader had signed on to fill the sizeable void left by the dearly departed Steve Carell when THE OFFICE returns for its much anticipated eight season this Fall? Rest assured, you weren’t the only one.
“It sort of took me by surprise too,” admitted James Spader to the TV Addict during NBC’s recent Television Critics Association Press Tour Party in Los Angles. “I’d been in New York doing a new David Mamet play for a year and I was sort of trying to figure out what to do next and then all of a sudden I got a call from [OFFICE Executive Producers] Greg Daniels and Paul Lieberstein.” [Read more…]
Ask the Addict: Spoilers for DEXTER, GLEE, BONES, GREY’S ANATOMY & More!
Any word on how Colin Hanks is going to fit into the new season of DEXTER? — Dave
The TV Addict: Words, we’ve got plenty. What’s more, they’re not just a random collection of ambiguous ones strung together in a desperate attempt to leave readers with the impression we know far more about the upcoming sixth season of DEXTER than we actually do. Rather, they’re from the former good guy himself, Colin Hanks, who was kind enough to make up for interrupting our one-on-one with HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER’s Jason Segel during last week’s CBS/CW/Showtime Party by dropping a few hints about what fans can expect from his character. “Here’s the problem. So much of the show is a secret that they’ve sort of engrained in me to not ruin the secret and when you sign a legal binding document it sort of makes you not want to do that. What I can say is that my character Travis restores ancient artifacts and he has a relationship with a Professor Gellar that’s played by Eddie Olmos,” said Hanks, of his character who is sprinkled in throughout the season. “It’s amazing and I want to tell the world about it but I can’t. Here’s the one thing I can say, there are a few instances this season where we are doing things that the show has never done before that will make all the DEXTER-heads flip out!”
Is there any truth to the rumor that GLEE is going back to its first season roots this year? — Drew
The TV Addict: Indeed there is. So much so that fans will be thrilled to discover that when GLEE does return for its much-anticipated third season this Tuesday September 20th at 8PM on FOX (Global TV in Canada), it will do so in a very familiar fashion. Teased star Lea Michele during last week’s FOX TCA Party, “This is the only top secret information that I can give you. I was really hoping that in this upcoming season I would get no slushies, no mess and whatever and then… like page two of script one I’m already a mess! Obviously they’re doing it on the first script because we’re coming back from the break happy and well rested. Had they put that in mid season we all would definitely have said no, I’m not looking forward to that.” [Read more…]
Ask the Addict: Spoilers for BONES, 90210, THE OFFICE & More!
With shooting having already begun on BONES seventh season, I’m wondering if you’ve been able to cobble together anymore information about the impact of Emily Deschanel’s pregnancy on the show? — Jennifer
The TV Addict: This just in: The somewhat reduced workload for mommy-to-be-Brennan (Deschanel) will be sweet news for one John Francis Daley. Which is to say fans can expect an uptick in screen time for Dr. Lance Sweets who will accompany Booth on more investigations in the early part of the seventh season. So much so that he’ll actually get certified to carry a gun! Now whether Sweets should be packing heat all day… well, that is an entirely different story.
Got any SHAMELESS scoop to tide this fan over until season 2? — Jenn
The TV Addict: When SHAMELESS does return this January 2012, Frank will very quickly discover that allowing himself to get urinated on by son as penance for sleeping with Lip’s underage girlfriend Karen was a walk in the park in comparison to what happens when the cops start sniffing around the mysterious disappearance of Karen’s father Eddie.
