Hello from a VERY cold and VERY snowy Kansas! Would anyone else like some winter weather? You can take mine! Let’s see what is on this week that I can curl up under the blanket and watch, shall we?


SUNDAY

Sunday is all about the SciFi channel tonight! First, check out the series premiere of Dresden Files at 9/8c! Based on the best-selling series of novels by Jim Butcher, it tells the story of Harry Dresden, a Chicago-based private detective with extraordinary abilities. Where others see typical crimes of assault, kidnapping and murder, Harry sees otherworldly forces at work. He’s a wizard, the real thing, the only wizard listed in the Chicago yellow pages. Whether consulting for the police on inexplicable crimes or following his own cases, Dresden does battle with the forces of darkness, always maintaining a wry sense of humor and a unique perspective on our world. It stars Paul Blackthorne, from 24, ER, Holby City and Deadwood!

Also new tonight on the SciFi channel is the winter premiere of Battlestar Galactica at 10/9c! As a supernova threatens to destroy the algae planet, the Galactica team must race to find clues to the Earth’s location.

THE WEST WING Joins iTunes

One of the TV Addict’s all time favourite dramas has been added to the ever growing lineup of television shows available on iTunes. The first and second seasons of THE WEST WING are now available for purchase. Click here to check it out.

The first two seasons of THE WEST WING were pure magic. From the moment we learned what POTUS was (President of the United States) as Sam realized he was in bed with a call girl — everything just clicked. The characters, the stories, it was the White House we wish (or at least I wished) we had.

The TV Addict’s personal favourite episode of the first two seasons is “Let Bartlet Be Bartlet.” The last few minutes alone, where Leo (the much loved John Spencer) tells President Bartlet (Martin Sheen) to start doing what he was elected to do, support the issues in which he truly believes — is well worth the $1.99 in itself.

And now for the obligatory rant: Warner Bros, I give you all the credit in the world for being pro-active when it comes to releasing the digital rights of your shows to iTunes. I’m thrilled to see VERONICA MARS, AQUAMAN et al in the iTunes store. My one problem — when are you going to get your act together and release seasons two through four of EVERWOOD on iTunes? If HERCULES and XENA can find a spot on iTunes, surely there’s room for one of television’s finest family dramas.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Calm Before the Storm

Last night was another fantastic episode of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and not surprisingly, revolved around relationships, albeit not the ones you may be thinking of.

Coach Taylor and Jason Street: Jason’s family finally served Coach Taylor with a lawsuit claiming he was responsible for Jason’s injury. It’s pretty much a lose/lose situation for everyone involved. While I understand that the Street family needs money, suing the Coach of the town’s most beloved team doesn’t seem like the best idea ever. It will be interesting to see how the repercussions from this lawsuit play out.

Tyra and her Mom: Tyra’s never played a central role on the show, but she’s been a character I’ve always liked. I thought the ultimatum she gave her Mom — forcing her to choose between herself or her Mom’s abusive boyfriend — was surprising, and a nice show of strength on Tyra’s part. It was a beautiful moment, watching her Mom choose Tyra. I know it shouldn’t surprise me that a mother chooses her daughter over a boyfriend, but this after-all television. I definitely expected Tyra to be living on the street until she was adopted by either the Taylor’s or the Riggin’s household.

Matt and Julie: Not much to say except that they are the most adorable couple on TV. It’s nice that the relationship is playing out in somewhat a ‘real’ fashion. If this were ONE TREE HILL, Julie would have already been knocked up and forced to be contemplating an abortion by now.

Smash and Waverly: Smash is way too full of himself. I cannot wait until next week’s episode when his world comes crashing down.

Buddy Garrity and Football: I absolutely love Buddy Garrity. His obsession with the Dillon Panthers makes me smile every-time he’s on the screen. In a town with some serious issues, Buddy Garrity is that welcome bit of comic relief that adds a lot to the show.

Last week, I got a very nice email from the Digital Entertainment department of Showtime. Showtime is the new HBO (at least that what we’ve been saying at thetvaddict for what feels like forever!). Dexter is amazing, Weeds is phenomenal. Sleeper Cell is one of the greatest things I’ve seen on television in recent months. Since 2004, one of my favorite shows on TV has aired on Showtime – The L Word. Imagine my surprise when that aforementioned email asked me if I’d like the opportunity to review and discuss the new season of one of my favorites? I jumped on the idea.

For the past four days, I’ve been holed up in front of the TV, watching, and re-watching, the first 6 episodes of Season Four and I must say that it’s fantastic so far. It’s back to the lightness that we got to experience in Season 1. After all the pain and the intensity of the first three seasons, the girls are living and loving as usual, but their bond as a group seems to have grown over time.

Season Six of 24 Starts of with a Bang!

[Attention Spoiler-phobes, the following article contains mild-spoilers with regards to the upcoming sixth season of 24 — you’ve been warned!]

Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in.

Truth be told, I was ready to wash my hands of 24 this year. With HEROES now airing opposite Jack Bauer, and my recent discovery that CBS comedies (with the exception of TWO AND A HALF MEN) are actually funny, there is simply too much great TV on Monday nights and not enough space on my PVR. For five years I’ve watched Jack Bauer predictably save the world from every terrorist threat imaginable. Did I really need to do it again?

The short answer is yes. After getting a sneak peak of the first four episode of the new season, I’m once again hooked on 24 and am counting down the days until episode five airs. (So long to that New Years resolution to actually get a life!)

That my friends, is the genius of 24. Even though we know Jack Bauer is indestructible, and that the world will invariably be saved within twenty-four hours (albeit with a few surprise deaths and explosions along the way), no show on TV does heart-stopping edge of your seat excitement like 24.

Thankfully, the new season does not disappoint. 6AM — 7AM (the season premiere) literally starts off with a bang — when a crowded bus explodes at the hands of a suicide bomber. We quickly learn via FOXNews (holy corporate synergy Batman!) that America has fallen victim to a deadly string of suicide attacks, with no end in sight. Luckily for President Palmer (no, not THAT President Palmer) President Wayne Palmer — David’s younger brother, the terrorists responsible for these attacks are willing to put a stop to them — assuming they get something in return. And that something, is actually a someone, and you don’t need to have Chloe’s superior intellect to decipher who that someone is!

Hey everyone! Lots of new stuff on this week, including the premiere of several shows, including some fan favorites, so let’s jump right in!

Sunday starts off the week strong with the premiere episodes of 7 (yes, SEVEN) shows! Catch the season premieres of The Apprentice: Los Angeles on NBC at 9:30/8:30c, The L Word on Showtime at 10/9c and the winter premiere of Hogan Knows Best on VH1 at 10/9c.

Grease: You’re the One That I Want on NBC at 8/7c, has 3 judges holding open casting calls to find a man and a woman to play the lead roles in a Broadway production of “Grease”. The ORIGINAL Sandy, Olivia Newton-John offers advice to hopefuls. This was one of my favorite movies growing up. I’m excited for this and am hoping it won’t be TOO lame! lol

Over on VH1, Surreal Life Fame Game is on at 9/8c. Watch former Surreal Lifers compete in an out-of-control contest to see which celebrity is the most famous of them all! Probably going to be horrendous, but just wanted to let you guys know it was starting tonight! lol

Also premiering on VH1 tonight is Shooting Sizemore, starring yes, Tom Sizemore. lol Track the struggles of newly-sober problem actor Tom Sizemore as he tries to stay clean and revive his career. Why you’d want to do that, I dunno… hah

Finally, check out MTV at 10/9c for I’m with Rolling Stone. No, not THE Rolling StoneS, but the magazine, Rolling Stone. Follow six young writers with the opportunity of a lifetime — a summer working as writers for Rolling Stone in New York City. They’ll fight over assignments, struggle to land celebrity interviews and race against deadlines… all in hopes of seeing their words and bylines in the pages of the legendary music magazine.

Masi Oka Spills on the Future of HEROES

hiro masi oka heroesYesterday morning HEROES star Masi Oka (Hiro) took an hour out of his busy day to talk to talk to select members of the media about the upcoming January premiere of HEROES, and what it feels like to be a Golden Globe nominated actor. Masi was surprisingly upfront about the future of the show, what he’d like to see for his character and what it was like working with legendary STAR TREK actor George Takei. And because we know you’re wondering — Yes, Masi does a dead-on Captain Sulu impression!

On what fans can expect from HEROES when it returns on January 22 (9PM NBC):
Masi Oka: The first half of the season was really about each characters discovering their power. The second half is the realization that we actually have these powers and watching our characters grow with them.

The audience will start to see more characters cross paths, as stories combine into each-other. There are definitely some wonderful twists coming up.

On what the future holds for Hiro specifically:
Masi Oka: The next seven episodes revolve around his quest for his sword — which Hiro believes will let him focus his powers and get back the control he’s apparently lost over them. His lack of power [as we saw in the season’s final episode when Hiro had to take the bus back to Ando] is tied to his emotional state. Losing Charlie was devastating for him — a sort of jolt of reality. For all that he can do he can’t change the past or the future. Fate is fate, and he can’t change that.

I’ve heard from Tim [Executive Producer Tim Kring] somewhere down the, I’m not going to say when, there will be another love interest for Hiro. She’ll be a new character, not someone we already know.
