THE OC Says SHALOM!
When talking about the Cohen family of Newport Beach it’s only appropriate to throw in some Jewish terminology. This is afterall the family that brought back schmeared bagels, the ‘nanna’, passover and Chrismukkah to network television. So we’ll start off today’s farewell tribute to THE OC by saying SHALOM. Which in case you aren’t familiar with the Jewish language, means ‘Good-bye’ in Hebrew (as well as ‘hello’ and ‘peace’). Be sure to check back all day with theTVaddict.com as we reminisce about our favourite OC moments and don’t forget to tune into THE OC series finale at 9PM tonight on FOX (or 7PM on CTV in Canada).
To get us started, here’s a classic kiss that will never be forgotten. Least of all by Sony’s lawyers who should be suing THE OC for blatant plagiarism!
We Preview Stewie’s New Talk Show
In a brilliant marketing movie, FOX has given Stewie (of FAMILY GUY Fame) his own talk show. UP LATE, a ten minute animated talk show parody starring Stewie, Brian and celebrity guest Rob Corddry goes live on MySpace this Sunday evening at 8PM.
UP LATE will begin streaming Sunday, February 25 at 8pm ET/5pm PT on MySpace.com and remain on the portal indefinitely. Sneak preview clips are currently posted on MySpace, YouTube and other video sites. Remarked Ricky Blitt, former “Family Guy” writer and creator of “The Winner”
While all of America awaits with baited breath to see if Ryan Gosling wins an Oscar, I hope they’ll turn on their computers and watch “Up Late” to see Stewie and Brian do skits, interviews, and a topical monologue about Leah Remini’s genitalia. Yes, “Up Late’ is a classy tribute to late night talk shows and a love letter to my own parents, though even I’m not sure what the hell that means.
Of course with the good news invariably comes the backlash. And theTVaddict.com has learned from sources deep within Hollywood that not all animated television stars are pleased with Stewie’s success. Rumour has it that a certain yellow sponge is seething with jealous — having tried unsuccessfully for years to launch his own talk show. Needless to say he’s now looking to jump ship from CAA (his current Hollywood agent), sighting poor representation for this latest career setback. Obviously theTVaddict.com will be the first to report if anything develops. Stay Tuned…
A Reminder to Watch FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS — hands down the season’s best new drama. Tune in tonight (8PM on NBC). Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. Don’t believe me, this TV Addict doesn’t mess around. I’ve got references. Check out this recent email:
TV Addict, I can’t thank you enough for last season’s praise of “Everwood.” It got me incredibly excited to finally see the show when it came to ABC Family last October. Now that the cycle is over, I wish I could travel back to last summer and jump on that ferris wheel. 🙂 I’ve been able to relive every one of your day-after critiques and coverage of the cancellation through your archives and it’s been a lot of fun. “Everwood” has been a great experience, and its end has been a tough pill to swallow see the details of my grief here, lol), but I sincerely thank you for convincing me to tune in. And thanks for the fantastic site. ~T. Paul
Take that Michael Ausiello! But seriously folks, the TV addict knows his stuff and I would never steer my readers in the wrong direction (say to ACCORDING TO JIM!). Tune into FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS tonight and thank me later.
Our Favourite OC Quotes
With THE OC coming to a close tomorrow night at 9PM on FOX, we at theTVaddict.com thought we’d offer up some of our favourite OC quotes. So here it goes, and if we’ve forgotten anything, feel free to add it in the comments below.
“Welcome to the O.C., bitch. This is how it’s done in Orange County.”
– Luke, after pummeling Ryan.
“God! Dad, those eyebrows are out of control!”
– Seth, eyeballing his dad’s work ID card.
“Open your mind here, Dad. This isn’t me we’re talking about. With Ryan here, we have a chance to have a real athlete in the family. Somebody to achieve all that your Jewishness has prevented me from accomplishing. Hey, I always wanted to play soccer.”
– Seth, helping Sandy find an after-school activity for Ryan.
“Allow me to elaborate. See, for my father here, a poor, struggling Jew growing up in the Bronx, well, Christmas meant Chinese food and a movie. And for my mom over here, Waspy McWasp, well, it meant a tree, it meant stockings and all the trimmings.”
– Seth, explaining the genesis of Chrismukkah.
Amrie’s Take on TV: A Guide to JERICHO
Remember my New Year’s Resolution to get caught up on Jericho before the winter premiere?
Thanks to the awesome people at CBS, I’ve gone one step further. Not only did I watch the first 11 hours saved on my TiVo. I had the pleasure of watching Wednesday’s winter premiere and it’s official – I’m addicted to Jericho!!
For those of you who were in my boat, having missed the whole fall season (but you haven’t yet caught up), I wanted to get you all ready for Wednesday’s big premiere.
With that, here’s a little “Who’s who?” of the people that make Jericho what it is (I put together a little chart with who is connected to whom, and how; do yourself a favor and click here to print it out!)
HEROES: What An Ending!
How phenomenal was last night’s final few minutes of HEROES? A super-powered fight, a death, a hostage crisis, a Stan Lee cameo! (Hiro’s bus driver in case you were wondering). Honestly, can HEROES get any better? It can but we’ll get to that later.
First off — Peter Petrelli finally stopped whining and started to use his powers for good. How fantastic was it to watch Peter use his plethora of powers as he confronted Isaac about Simone. Of course, with great power comes great responsibility, and it turns out that a full on superhero confrontation may not have been the best idea. Simone is dead, and while it didn’t take Hiro’s time traveling ability to guess that Simone’s death was coming a mile away (What exactly was her purpose on the show?), it was still pretty surprising to see it all go down.
The irony about Simone is that in death, she’ll add far more to the show than she ever could have accomplished being alive. Her death will trigger battle-lines to be drawn. Heroes will have to pick sides, with Peter and Isaac definitely on opposing ones.
Speaking of sides, Matt Parkman has finally decided to get some answers and kick some serious HRG butt in the process. His decision to take the Bennett family hostage (along with Hana and Ted) will no doubt lead to a phenomenal episode next week. Expect to learn a lot more about the mysterious HRG and his back-story (Click here for theTVaddict.com’s interview with HRG last week where he spills some interesting scoop about next week’s episode.) Nice to see the writers finally integrating the underutilized Greg Grunberg into the main story and giving him something interesting to do.
And finally, a question for my fellow HEROES addicts. How much do we know about the other Bennett child? Is it possible that in an extremely dangerous situation, such as say a hostage crisis, young Lyle may exhibit a power of his own? Stay Tuned…
Jenny’s This Week on TV
Wow, I apologize for missing Sunday! Was a VERY long weekend. Didn’t have a great Valentine’s Day celebration on Friday, cause the theater changed the movie to that stupid Ghost Rider film, but the hubby & I got dinner from Quizno’s, which we don’t normally have, then watched a bunch of tv together, so that was fun. 🙂 Spent most of the weekend car shopping and found a 2004 Chevy Malibu that we both LOVED. Looking into financing now, so… Whew. Not fun! LOL Glad there is lots of tv on this week to take my mind off it all!

You Be the Critic: THE WINNER
Do you lay awake at night dreaming of kidnapping TVGuide’s Michael Ausiello and stealing his job? Is your life long dream to receive television pilots early (or ‘screeners’ as they’re known in the industry) and be able to review them for millions to read? Are you a fan of both THE DAILY SHOW and FAMILY GUY? Well then, have we got a treat for you.
theTVaddict.com wants you to be the first to check out FOX’S new mid-season series starring Rob Corddry (THE DAILY SHOW). THE WINNER is a new comedy from FAMILY GUY’s Seth MacFarlane and Ricky Blitt. The show follows Glen Abbott (Corddry), who is truly the biggest kid on the block. The show proves that growing up isn’t just for kids anymore and gives hope to late-bloomers everywhere as Glen embarks on his “wonder years” at the tender age of 32.

Oh, and one more thing — Keep in mind that being a television critic isn’t simply about getting paid to watch endless hours of television, Emmy parties and celebrity hobnobbing. Be sure to return to theTVaddict.com and post away with your thoughts on the show. Minimum 50 words, double spaced, and don’t even try and widen those margins! We’ve read enough papers in our time to know when a student is trying to take the easy way out.
HEROES Scoop — HRG Dishes on the Future of HEROES
This afternoon, Jack Coleman, better known to HEROES fans as the myseterious man with Horn Rimmed Glasses (or HRG for short) was kind enough to answer reporter’s questions about what viewers can expect in the final third of the HEROES season. theTVaddict.com found Mr. Coleman surprisingly candid when talking about the future of HRG and the challenges he’s about to face. Read on to discover some pretty great spoiler nuggets that will have HEROES addicts immediately scrambling to message boards across the internet to discuss the implications of HRG’s actions.
Mr. Coleman, firstly, the question that’s on everybody’s mind. How difficult was it to find that perfect pair of glasses?
JACK COLEMAN: We probably went through 100 pairs and when I say ‘we’, I mean the props department, the director and producers Tim Kring and Dennis Hammer. Everybody had an opinion.
Beyond the fact that they make me look like my father, it was nice to find the pair that felt right. The glasses do half the work. It’s amazing how much something like that helps me, as an actor, to become the character.
There’s the ‘Heroes’ pair, and a back up pair. When I have to wear the backup pair, it feels completely different.
