HEROES: Can This Show Get Any Better?

In this world of over-hyped sweeps stunts, empty promises for answers (yes, I’m talking to you LOST) and constant barrage of internet spoilers, I think I’ve pinpointed why HEROES is going so strong. In-spite of everything, it still manages to surprise its audience. Which simply makes watching the show so much fun.

Last night’s episode was a perfect example of yet another phenomenal chapter in the HEROES saga. Nothing was as it seemed, new (and very cool) Heroes were introduced and Suresh finally got his head in the game as he turned the tables on Sylar. Well sort of.

Yes, timid Professor Mohinder Suresh — who until now seemed to only have the superpower of stupidity — finally clued into his ‘friends’ real identity, tied him to a chair and shot him. Of course Sylar wasn’t going to let a simple bullet end his ultimate plan of world domination (what exactly is his plan by the way?). He quickly turned the tables, taking control of the situation and left Mohinder apparently for dead. Yet this being Heroes, I hardly think Suresh is dead. His family (not so much himself so far) is far too integral to the show’s plot.

Interesting how family units have come to play such an integral part in the show. Think about it. We’ve got the mysterious Nakamura family, the Petrelli family, Nikki/Jessica’s dysfunctional bunch and of course, HRG’s family… who for the first time ever seemed like a truly remarkable bunch.

BROTHERS & SISTERS: Meet Rebecca

Last night’s BROTHERS & SISTERS finally gave fans more of a concrete look at the mysterious Rebecca (Emily VanCamp) and for the first time took our sympathies for the grieving Walker clan and transferred them to Holly (Bill… sorry William’s secret affair, in case you’re new to the show). Who it turns out, may not be as evil as those ‘other woman’ are often portrayed.

Throughout the episode members of the Walker family just happened to run into Rebecca, who they’ve conveniently been able to avoid for about twenty years. First Tommy, then Saul and finally Sarah — which is when things really started to get interesting.

We Declare Today Canada Day!

theTVaddict.com is declaring today — a cold and dreary Sunday in March — CANADA DAY in the world of television. Now before you run to turn OFF your television in fear of a surprise Celine Dion guest appearance on EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION, let me me take a moment to explain why we’ve declared today Canada Day Part Duex.

THE WINNER
FOX’s latest attempt to replicate their animated SIMPSONS success premieres tonight with the first two episodes of the Seth MacFarlane (FAMILY GUY) produced half hour laugher called THE WINNER. THE WINNER, stars everybody’s (or at least our) favourite DAILY SHOW correspondent Rob Corrdry as Glen Abbott, a 32-year-old man-child still living at home with his parents in early 1990s Buffalo.
CANADIAN CONNECTION
THE WINNER has not one, but two Canadian connections. Glen Abbott’s life is based on the life of Native Montrealer Ricky Blitt. Who not only wrote the pilot, but conceded in a recent interview with the Toronto Star that the show is “very autobiographical.”

The show’s second Canadian connection belongs to young Keir Gilchrist. The local Torontonian, who at 14, must hold his own against funny-man Rob Corrdry. Gilchrist plays the teenage neighbor who Corrdry befriends in order to get closer to his mom, who coincidentally happens to be his childhood crush. “He’s like a 35-year-old and I’m like a 14-year-old,” says co-star Rob Corrddry of Gilchrist. “So we sort of meet in the middle”

BROTHERS & SISTERS
theTVaddict’s new favourite drama (alongside FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS) returns tonight after an Oscar hiatus. On tonight’s episode, entitled “The Other Walker”, the family discovers what the audience has known for quite a while — William and Holly had a child together named Rebecca.
CANADIAN CONNECTION
‘The Other’ that the episode’s title is referring to is none other then fellow Canadian (Port Perry native) and EVERWOOD alum Emily VanCamp. Emily plays Rebecca, who as you can see from this clip, made quite an impression on a shocked Tommy Walker at the end of BROTHERS & SISTERS last episode. We at theTVaddict.com cannot wait for sparks to fly tonight when the entire family discovers The Other Walker.’ And knowing the modus operandi of the Walker clan, we predict that the episode will end with one very memorable and akward tear-soaked family dinner. Seriously, can someone tell us why the Walker Family even bothers to sit down for dinner? It never ends well!

Jenny’s This Week on TV

It’s hard to believe that the regular tv season is almost over! Over the course of the next couple of months, we will start to see the season finale of many shows as well as the series finale of others. It’s a time of year that I don’t really look forward to, because I know I’ll miss great shows, like my favorites Grey’s Anatomy til next Fall and Veronica Mars possibly gone forever after this season. It’s hard to even think about! But, carpe diem! Seize the day! Still lots on, so let’s see what’s new this week. 🙂


SUNDAY

Sunday, check out the new night and time for The War at Home at 7:30/6:30c on FOX. Dave and two co-workers quit their jobs and start their own business; Hillary decides to join the Army; Larry does not want to get his driver’s license. I know a lot of you aren’t fans, but my husband & I are! Since Michael Rapaport (from Boston Public & many movies) is being courted for a new pilot next season, I think I read recently, I wouldn’t count on this one coming back. 🙁

Also on FOX, check out the premiere and 2nd episodes of The Winner at 8:30/7:30c and 9:30/8:30c. Narrated by a 43-and-a-half-year-old, incredibly rich and successful man, “The Winner” looks back to when the man lost his innocence and finally stepped into the world — at the tender age of 32. It’s 1994, and Glen Abbott is still living with his parents. When Alison, the only girl he’s ever kissed, moves back to town, Glen decides to make something of himself in order to impress her. It’s not in vain, thankfully — for this unlikely underdog will eventually transform from nervous under-achiever to the richest man in Buffalo in just a few years. At the moment, though, the only person Glen can truly relate to happens to be Alison’s 13-year-old son, Josh; they’re both going through “puberty.” Parental guidance comes courtesy of Glenn’s enabling mother Irene and supportive but usually angry dad Ron. It looks pretty funny, but we’ll see!

February Sweeps Withdrawl

For five weeks we’ve enjoyed a jam-packed Thursday night of television. But today is March 1 — and the party — or February Sweeps to be more specific, is officially over. That said, thanks to NBC’s ‘COMEDY NIGHT DONE RIGHT’ we’ve still got half a night of new comedy to look forward to (and one TV addict who’s already been brainwashed by NBC’s new marketing campaign).

Starting at 9PM with SCRUBS, the staff remembers past events while helping a patient regain his memory. Hmmm.. Would creator Bill Lawrence really sink so low as to give us a clip show? Tune in tonight find out. Following SCRUBS is the funniest new comedy this season — 30 ROCK starring the brilliant Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin. On tonight’s episode, Jack gets a hip-hop producer to endorse his family’s line of wines. No doubt hilarity will ensue.

For a guaranteed laugh, tune into SCRUBS and 30 ROCK tonight. Afterall, NBC does promise ‘Comedy Night Done Right’ — and if there’s one thing a television network would never do, is hype up a show’s laugh-factor to attract viewers. But seriously, trust theTVaddict.com with this one (have I ever steered you wrong?). Gives SCRUBS and 30 ROCK a chance and you’ll most definitely laugh out loud, or at the very least crack a smile. If you don’t, I’ve got some shocking news for you — you may be a cylon.

HEROES Pulls a ‘LOST’, but Better!

Last night, HEROES stole a page from LOST’s playbook and provided us — via flashback — with some serious insight into HRG, including how he started at Primatech Paper and what his motives are. (In case you’re new to the world of HEROES, HRG is short for Horn-Rimmed Glasses, and HRG is Claire’s father)

Turns out HRG is really a good guy after-all! Okay, maybe ‘good’ is a little bit of a stretch. Let’s just say HRG is acting in a very morally gray area. But, with one hell of a reason — to protect his daughter and his family’s livelihood. He gets points for that, doesn’t he?

So let’s talk about what we learned (which was a lot). Isn’t it great when flashbacks actually reveal interesting information about the show’s characters and/or mythology. Remember when LOST’s flashbacks used to do that. But I digress.

Jessica Walters, better known to ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT fans as Lucille Bluth guest stars next Monday’s episode (March 5, 9:30PM CBS). It seems as though Ms. Walters is very interested in David Spade. As much as I’d like to pretend NBC was kind enough to send me a screener for tomorrow’s episode of HEROES, it turns out that being a Canadian TV Addict has finally paid off. Jenny’s This Week on TV

What a crazy week of weather! Been so nice the last few days, had some rain last night and now it’s getting really cold again. Time to curl up under the blanket and watch tv! So let’s see what’s on this week, shall we? 🙂


SUNDAY

Sunday, check out Grease: You’re the One That I Want on NBC at 8/7c. One Danny and one Sandy must leave and Frankie Avalon performs with the four remaining Sandys. Hah, Frankie Avalon! How many of you remember him?

Then turn to the SciFi channel at 9/8c for The Dresden Files. A beautiful vampire hires Dresden to find out who is trying to kill her.

Then stick around for Battlestar Galactica at 10/9c. Chief Tyrol’s labor leader persuades him to defy Adama and become the rallying point for a strike.

If you are into the awards show, don’t miss the biggest tonight starting at 8/7c on ABC with the Road to the Oscars 2007 then at 8:30/7:30c for The 79th Annual Academy Awards. Ellen DeGeneres is hosting this year and she is usually pretty darn funny. 😀

With Princess Sparkle and Captain Oats galloping off into the sunset following last night’s series finale of THE OC it’s time for the cast to get realistic. This is Hollywood, and you’re only as good as your last hit. So as a public service, we at theTVaddict.com thought we’d offer up some sound career advice for our favorite dislocated Newport residents. Not everyone can be as fortunate as Melinda Clarke, who, in true Julie Cooper style, has already moved on now that CBS has cast her in the LL Cool J pilot THE MAN.
