Television Travels: The TV Addict Adventures to Israel!
In March of 2015, your very own TV Addict (Pictured above, inside Jerusalem’s Holy/Old City) was given an amazing opportunity. I was invited to Israel to take part in the INTV (Innovative TV) conference and learn more about the amazing innovations and entertainment that were transforming this tiny upstart nation.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, “Ummm TV Addict, it’s like… June! Why are you just now writing about all of this?” and (b) what exactly does Israel have to do with television?
Well, (a) as the title of this blog suggests, my addiction to television doesn’t leave me as much time as I’d like to write. And (b) Turns out, quite a lot! Contrary to what the cable news networks might have you believe, there is a lot more to Israel than a seemingly never ending conflict. Israel has carved out quite a name for itself in both the world of television and technology over the past decade or two. But hey, don’t take my word for it, see for yourself, below. [Read more…]
Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Questions with UNREAL Star Breeda Wool
The highly anticipated Lifetime series, UNREAL premieres tonight! The series centers around a fictional reality dating competition, “Everlasting” and shows the contestants going to great lengths to get fame, fortune, and love. One contestant stirring up some trouble on “Everlasting” is southern sweetheart, Faith. I caught up with Breeda Wool, who portrays the country Christian and chatted about her character, Faith’s tension with the other girls, and what we can look forward to in tonight’s premiere.
What drew you to UNREAL? What stood out about this show when you were reading the Pilot?
I had been shooting BETAS when Barbara Fiorentino called me in for the casting. I almost thought I wouldn’t make it because of scheduling. The night before I watched Sarah Shapiro’s short film “Sequin Raze”, which UNREAL is based on, and I knew it was going to be a dark, twisty, brilliant project. The thing that immediately stood out to me is that it is truly from a woman’s point of view. It has a very flawed female anti-hero, and we follow her as she squeezes and prods women into becoming television archetypes. It’s wickedly satisfying.
What can you tell us about your character, Faith?
Well, I’m a barrel racer in the Mississippi Rodeo. I read the bible every day, and I normally don’t wear gowns. Oh, and I’m also a six-foot tall virgin to make things as awkward as possible. I’ve been recruited by the producers of “Everlasting” and pressured by my family and church to go off and find myself a prince.
In the promos we’ve seen a lot of tension between the girls on ‘Everlasting’ what can you tease about your characters time on the dating competition?
When we first came onto Everlasting they take our cell phones and we are utterly cut off from the outside world. All the contestants realize pretty quick that we are actually on the show to be exposed, and in my case, humiliated. But it is very easy to get caught up in the universe. We become isolated in this constructed world designed by Rachael (Shiri Appleby) and Quinn (Constance Zimmer) that we have no other choice but to keep trying to win. We become utterly vulnerable to the game and everyone gets lost in it. Which is how you feel when you watch reality TV sometimes too.
How will she interact with the other contestants?
I might be the most inexperienced and naive, but I’m also a competitor. Let’s just say there might be a ho-down.
The show is set around a reality/dating show. What reality shows are you addicted to?
I used to be in love with FLAVOR FLAVE! I would cat fight my way to that man’s heart any day.
What can we look forward to in the Pilot?
I think UNREAL has a unique perspective that no one has seen before. I think this show is smart and will shake up how people think of television. It’s beautifully written and the actors created wonderfully complex and dark characters. I’m hoping this show will entice people and they will fall in love with it like I did. I’m very proud of what we made.
You can watch Breeda on the series premiere of UNREAL tonight at 10:00 EST on Lifetime (Showcase in Canada). You can also follow her on twitter at @breedawool.
