Random Musings: CRUSOE, THE OFFICE, 90210, 30 ROCK & TV Guide
Is anyone else still scratching their head over NBC’s decision to offer up a FREE iTunes download of 30 ROCK’s season premiere a week early when you purchase the October 27th issue of TV Guide Magazine? I mean don’t get me wrong, this TV Addict is all for free iTunes downloads, after-all, who doesn’t love free stuff [see today’s previous post.] I’m just not so sure that TV Guide was the right strategic partner considering that the once mighty guide now finds itself in such dire financial straits that it was recently sold for $1 [no really, one dollar!] That and, I’d hazard to guess that the people who still use TV Guide as a “Guide to What’s On” include some of the few remaining folks who are old enough to remember when 30 Rockefeller Center was built. Not exactly NBC’s desired demographic. Paging Entertainment Weekly… anyone?
With the one caveat being Michael wanting a “Golden Shower” of his very own, was I the only TV Addict who found last night’s episode of THE OFFICE quite possibly the least funny of the entire series?
Now that 90210 has dropped Jessica Walter as a series regular and with her, the impetus for the Mills family move to West Beverly — this TV Addict can’t help but wonder how long until showrunners Gabe Sachs, Jeff Judah and newcomer Rebecca Kirshner decide to take the next logical step, send the rest of the Mills family back to Kansas and refocus the show on the only family anybody cares about — The Taylors [Jackie, Kelly and Silver].
Ask the Addict: UGLY BETTY, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, PRIVILEGED & More!
I can’t believe you were in New York this weekend and didn’t let me know. I would have loved the opportunity to talk TV in person. — TVStalker32
The TV Addict: As much as I appreciate the email TVStalker32, I’ve seen enough episodes of ONE TREE HILL this season to know how this story ends. With me tied up in your basement forced to watch the complete series of 7th HEAVEN on repeat!
But in all seriousness, this TV Addict would really like to take a moment to thank everyone who emailed me this weekend with an invitation out. Had I known readers were actually interested in meeting face-to-face, I would have definitely taken time away from my endless cultural and educational museum excursions JACK & BOBBY marathon to have a meet-up in New York City.
Did you really stay in the hotel and watch JACK & BOBBY on theWB.com all weekend long? — Amy
The TV Addict: If by all weekend long, you mean Sunday morning, then yes. But can you blame me? JACK & BOBBY is even better than I remember. And if a mash-up of EVERWOOD and THE WEST WING isn’t enough to intice you to give this brilliant-but-cancelled series a chance, how does this list of guest stars sound: Bradley Coooper, Evan Handler, David Paymer, Ron Canada, Keri Lynn Pratt, Kate Mara, John Heard, Kyle Gallner, Shailene Woodley and Mike Erwin. Not to mention series regulars Christine Lahti, John Slattery, Logan Lerman, Jessica Paré and Matt Long. All of whom can be seen on theWB.com. Seriously, JACK & BOBBY is the very definition of brilliant-but-cancelled.
This probably doesn’t fall under the prevue of theTVAddict.com, but what exactly did you do in New York all weekend? — Jenn
The TV Addict: Two words: Broadway and Brunch [well really food, but B&B sounds so much better]. But rest assured, I can tie it all back to television. Not only was BILLY ELLIOT the most magical theater experience I’ve had since Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel defied gravity [WICKED], Broadway’s BILLY will very soon play a pivotal role in an upcoming episode of UGLY BETTY when Justin befriends the school jock only to discover that they’re both auditioning for a role in the soon-to-be Tony Award winning musical.

Vote for the Stupidest: ABC Sunday Night Edition
While the Walker Family and the women of Wisteria Lane are no stranger to serious lapses in judgment. It’s quite possible that Sunday’s installments of both BROTHERS & SISTERS and DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES featured two characters reaching an all time low. So much so that theTVaddict.com went as far as to create a new feature that we like to call, “Vote For the Stupidest!” Also known as, Vote for the fictional TV character who made Paris Hilton look like a Rhodes Scholar.
In this corner, weighing in at approximately 98 pounds is BROTHERS & SISTERS’ Kitty Walker. Who having apparently never sat through a Walker family dinner herself, thought it would be a ‘smart’ idea to invite her entire extended family over for a ‘show the adoption agency how normal we are’ dinner.
Versus, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES’ Lynette Scavo. Who in a desperate [get it?!] attempt to get closer to her son Porter decided to create a fake profile on Wisteria Lane’s version of Facebook. Only to have it blow up in her face entirely, humiliate Porter and worst of all, endure a well-deserved verbal smack-down from Tom who suggested Lynette break-up with Porter by writing, “Dear Porter, I’m really liking you, but I wanna see other offspring.”
Vote for the stupidest in the comments below.

Random Musings: 90210
As SMALLVILLE fans know all too well, the CW is never slow to jump on a product placement opportunity. Which is why this TV Addict has spent the better part of Wednesday scratching his head as to how the fledgling network completely missed the ball when it comes to 90210 and the loads of cash they could be making from the incredibly obvious cell phone tie in.
Let’s face it, if Emmy’s were given out this early in the season for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama, Kelly and Brenda’s cellphone carrier would most definitely have to be considered a top five candidate. Thanks to brilliance that is Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile and/or AT&T’s cellphone network [See how easy that was? To paraphrase 30 ROCK’s Tina Fey, can theTVaddict.com have our money now!?], 90210 showrunners Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah have managed to keep fans, not to mention Kelly and Brenda connected to original cast members Brandon and Dylan without (a) having pay them or (b) having to beg, plead and grovel to get them back on the show that made them famous.

First Look: SUPERNATURAL Goes Back to the Future
[flashvideo filename=”video/sup403.flv” /]
Because there is nothing theTVaddict.com enjoys more than a classic time-travel episode, this TV Addict is thrilled to offer up a first look at Thursday’s brand new installment of SUPERNATURAL appropriately titled, “In The Beginning.”
Why “In The Beginning?” Because that’s exactly where everybody’s favorite new Angel Castiel [Misha Collins] transports Dean (Jensen Ackles) back to, the beginning. Where he’ll not only encounter his parents as a young couple in love, but also meet his mother’s family for the first time and more importantly learn the origin of a startling turn of events that will shape the future of the entire Winchester family – and possibly his relationship with Sam forever.
