Dispatches From The Couch: AMERICAN HORROR STORY, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, SLEEPY HOLLOW & More!
Now that we’re a few weeks into the fall season and that first blush of new love one feels toward shows has faded, we begin to see which ones have what it takes to keep our attention over the long haul. What shows — new and old — have we been watching? Read on to find out… and then hit the comments to tell us which shows have you buzzing!
This may be the most difficult sentence I’ve had to write in a while, so I’m just gonna say it: The premiere of AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN disappointed me. Having absolutely loved ASYLUM, being a big fan of witches and thanks to the killer ad campaign, COVEN was without doubt the show I was most looking forward to. But the first episode was… let’s be kind and go with schizophrenic. Now, to be fair, so was ASYLUM, which featured everything from mad scientists to aliens. And it’s worth noting that some of the shots in the gorgeously directed COVEN were stunning. But many elements fell flat for me, including the performances of Emma Roberts (as bitchy teen movie queen Madison) and Gabourey Sidibe (as self-proclaimed voodoo doll Queenie). It’s always fun to see what AHS does with the incredibly talented Frances Conroy, who this season plays the flamboyant Myrtle Snow. As much fun as it was to watch Jessica Lange play wickedly bitchy Fiona, it’s not like we haven’t seen her play this exact same role a thousand times. Make no mistake: As a fan of both the genre and the series, I’ll be back. But I wasn’t left eagerly anticipating the next episode the way I was with ASYLUM. [Read more…]
Red Carpet Redux: The CASTLE Cast and Creative Team Tease Season 6 at the Paley Center Celebration
By Sarah Stephens
ABC’s CASTLE hasn’t lost any steam with its rabid fanbase moving into the sixth season. Hosting CASTLE for the third time, the Paley Center in Los Angeles welcomed cast and crew from the drama for a panel in front of a sold out fanatic audience and live steaming feed. There was plenty for a panel to cover for the new season. Let’s count it off: an engagement for Castle and Beckett, a once-in-a-lifetime career opp for Beckett with the Attorney General , making her leave the dream team back in NYC, Alexis back from a summer in South America and throwing some fun (read: unwelcome) surprises Castle’s way, and a new baby for Det. Ryan.
Cast members Susan Sullivan (Martha), Molly Quinn (Alexis), Seamus Dever (Det. Ryan), Juliana Dever (Jenny Ryan), Jon Huertas (Det. Esposito), screenwriter Terri Miller and executive producer Andrew Marlowe chatted it up on the red carpet of the Paley Center CASTLE event. Between giving us teasers on the new season and a few behind-the-scenes anecdotes, they also gave some morbid answers to the question: how haven’t we seen someone die on CASTLE? [Read more…]

GRIMM Preview: Star Bitsie Tulloch Gives the Inside Scoop on Season 3 and Previews Her Film “Parkland”
In the NBC dark fairytale series GRIMM, there are creatures which seemed to have stepped right out of one of your nightmares. But not all creatures are to be feared. Known as wesen, some are good and some are evil, just like their human counterparts. Having just found out about the wesen world, Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) also found out that he is a descendent of a special lineage known as Grimms. In the first couple of seasons of GRIMM, Nick’s fiancé Juliette was living blissfully unaware of the wesen world and the particular new duties of her fiancé outside of his detective work. But finally as the end of Season 2, Nick revealed his secret life and this other supernatural world to Juliette. Unfortunately, just as Juliette was beginning to take it all in stride and get used to the idea of living with wesen all around, up came a zombie apocalypse.
The Season 2 finale left our hero Nick entrapped and exposed to the zombie venom, with Juliette and their friends Monroe and Rosalee left to fend for themselves against the encroaching zombie mob. In an exclusive interview, co-star Bitsie Tulloch talked about what obstacles our heroes face in Season 3 and where the Nick/Juliette romance is headed in the midst of all these huge revelations. Bitsie also talked briefly about her new film “Parkland” which debuts in theaters on Friday, October 4th. [Read more…]
