AQUAMAN seemed like a promising idea, that was yet another victim of the CW merger. Here is a unique opportunity to see the trailer for the AQUAMAN pilot. Personally, I think it looked really cool – but no doubt really expensive to produce. Check out the trailer by clicking here.

7th Heaven Returning (seriously!)
According to MediaWeek.com 7th Heaven will be returning for an 11th season on the CW. Apparently the new network wasn’t too pleased with their upcoming crop of Drama pilots, subsequently thay have decided to bring back the WB’s most watched drama. This is a bad sign, as the return of 7th Heaven means one less spot for an actualy ‘good’ tv show. If either Veronica Mars of Everwood gets bumped off the net in place of the cheesiest sappiest soapiest family drama ever, I think I’ll have to kill myself.
Let the UpFront Rumors Begin
Rumour has it the CW isn’t to pleased with the drams in development. sources tell the Hollywood Reporter that if INVASION isn’t renewed by ABC, the CW may decide to pick it up.
In other Upfront News, ABC announced the pickup of six pilots: IN CASE OF EMERGENCY (starring David Arquette, Greg Germann), HELP ME HELP YOU (starring Ted Danson as a celebrity shrink), NOTES FROM TEH UNDERBELLY, THE NINE (about hostages taken in a robbery, starring Chi McBride and Kim Raver) and SIX DEGREES (strangers brought together through mysterious circumstances, sort of a LOSTesque show)
Meanwhile, over at the struggeling NBC, the network that once ruled Thursday Night has picked up four new shows: STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP, PRIMARY, VANISHED, and AMERICAN CRIME.
Disappointed with THE WEST WING
According to Variety, the reason we’re not getting the retrospective episode filled with cast interviews that we deserve, prior to THE WEST WING’s series finale is because the cast members didn’t think they were being compensated enough to appear in the special.
Yet again Hollywood actors prove that the only thing that matters to them is money. This truly is a slap in the face to us loyal viewers who have endlessly and passionately supported the show for the past 7 years. I for one was really looking forward to a great retrospective, featuring cast and creative team interviews. I already own season one of the series on DVD, I don’t need to see the pilot episode again. Actors should take a moment and realize that something as special as THE WEST WING is a rarity. They may never work on such a high quality show again. They should take every opportunity to appreciate it, before jumping ship and moving on (Yes, I’m talking to you too Amy Sherman-Palladino)
UPDATE: Thanks to freelancer-1 over on the eonline.com boards for pointing out that the main cast members of WW, will be on ELLEN this Thursday:
Ellen has the exclusive farewell interview with the entire cast of “THE WEST WING,” including MARTIN SHEEN, ALLISON JANNEY, BRADLEY WHITFORD, RICHARD SCHIFF, JIMMY SMITS, JANEL MOLONEY, KRISTIN CHENOWEHT and DULE HILL. Ellen and the cast celebrate with a special season finale send-off party! The cast shares special moments and highlights from the past nine seasons.
Monday TV Musings
This Sunday, NBC plans to air the first episode of THE WEST WING, before they air the series finale. Let me say how dissappointing this is to a long time WW fan. I own the DVDs, I don’t need to see the pilot episode. I would have much preferred a retrospective hour featuring cast interviews, favourite moments and clips. Way to drop the ball NBC.
To balance the above negative, here’s some positive NBC news. They officially picked up Aaron Sorkin’s latest show, STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP. Sorkin truly is one of TV’s most gifted writers, and with an all-star cast lead by Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford, the show cannot be bad!
If you’re going through Aaron Sorkin withdrawl, check out the pilot of his ABC masterpiece SPORTS NIGHT. The show features a pre-Desperate Felicity Huffman and a pre-Six Feet Under Peter Krause. It was one of those incredible shows that deserved a far bigger audience. Check it out below:
CBS innertube, CW News
In response to the success of abc.com’s free TV via broadband internet, theTVaddict has learned that CBS is poised to launch a similar broadband TV station, as early as this today. In fact, if you hop on over to CBS.com right now you can check it out.
On the CW front, KAZW-TV accidently released a press release stating the “The CW” would start airing new shows on September 18th. Too bad the network didn’t accidently release the CW schedule – now that would be news! Finally, according to TVguide.com:
According to Variety, the CW network officially begins screening pilots and deliberating over its first-ever fall-schedule offerings on Thursday. Execs, led by CW entertainment president Dawn Ostroff, will hole up in screening rooms to sample the new projects, but it is not clear whether they will also screen such existing WB-UPN shows as Veronica Mars and One Tree Hill. One long-running series not expected to make the cut is 7th Heaven, despite recent last-minute salvation buzz; insiders tell Variety the season finale is, in fact, the series ender, and there are no plans for a spin-off.
7th Heaven Returning
Some more bad news for fans of EVERWOOD and VERONICA MARS. According to Reuters, the CW is seriously considering bringing 7th HEAVEN back for another season. Reuters reports:
About a month ago, members of “Heaven’s” core cast, including Stephen Collins, Catherine Hicks, Beverley Mitchell and George Stults, were approached about the possibility of returning for another year on the show, sources said. Although no formal offers were made and there haven’t been recent inquiries to the cast or their representatives, sources indicate CW executives are keeping the option to bring back “Heaven” on the table, and no final decision will be made until the future network’s four drama pilots are evaluated.
The reason theTVaddict is so concerned with this news is that bringing 7th HEAVEN back is one less spot for a quality family drama on the new CW – ie EVERWOOD or VERONICA MARS. Can someone please start a ‘cancel 7th heaven campaign’ 🙂 Seriously!
Bedford Controversy
There is an interesting controversy brewing around the WB’s new series THE BEDFORD DIARIES (premiering Wed March 29 on the WB). According to the WB:
“The Bedford Diaries explores the excitement and intensity of New York City college life through the eyes of six students with different backgrounds, experiences and ages, who are brought together in a provocative Human Behavior and Sexuality seminar.”
Apparently, the FCC has ordered creator and executive producer Tom Fontanta (Homocide, OZ) to cut some scenes that have been deemed to sexually explicitive. As a result, there will be two versions of the pilot airing. An edited cut will air on the network airwaves, while an un-edited version of the show is currently being viewed on the WB’s website You can view the original episode online by clicking here.
Not to get too political, but this is yet another ridiculous move by the FCC. Since Janet Jackson’s superbowl fiasco (ie. ‘Nipplegate’), the FCC has taken far too many steps in controlling what we see on television. It is theTVaddict’s opinion that it should be parents who are monitoring what their kids are watching – not the government.
Casting Couch
Attention Veronica Mars fans. Don’t get to attached to Logan’s new love interest Hannah. Actress Jessy Schram has been cast as the lead in the CW’s new pilot SPLIT DECISION. Having had a chance to check out the script, I have to say the pilot is pretty good and stands a pretty excellent chance of landing on the CW’s fall schedule. For more info on Jessy, visit her imdb page by clicking here.

WHITFORD JOINS STRIP CLUB:Â As teased weeks ago in Ask Ausiello, The West Wing’s Bradley Whitford has been added to the cast of Wing creator Aaron Sorkin’s NBC drama pilot, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Whitford will play a producer-director and recovering cocaine addict on the series’ SNL-style sketch show-within-a-show. Also joining Studio 60 are Wing’s Timothy Busfield (playing a control-room director) and Sarah Paulson (as a Christian fundamentalist.)
