Exclusive Interview: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Star Jamie Bamber
By: Amrie Cunningham [My Take on TV]
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is back, and not surprisingly, better than ever. What better way to count down the minutes to the final season premiere than by spending some time learning a bit more about everyone’s favorite Viper-pilot-turned-courtroom-lawyer, Lee Adama [aka Jamie Bamber]? Jamie and I talked last week about what he hopes to see for his character, what he hopes fans take away from the show, and what he really thinks about the whole “Starbuck/Apollo/will-they/can-they/should-they-really” relationship.
BATTLESTAR is hands down one of my favorite shows on television and I’m so excited that it’s coming back tonight.
Jamie Bamber: Yeah, we all are. It’s something that’s become very precious to us, and we want to see it finished in the right way.
What attracted you to the role of Lee when the series first started.
I think his entrance into the show. The way the character arrived, as a stranger aboard this Battlestar, not wanting to be there, being forced into this sort of retirement of his dad that he doesn’t get on with. It being completely about, you know, family relationships and something that we can all relate to. And then the end of the world happening and him being stranded in this world that he didn’t really want to be in. I thought that was the most fantastic premise for a character opening. This is not his life; this is not the people he’s surrounded by, all these military guys. He was probably, in my mind, about to quit the military, and here he is stranded. With the one man he didn’t want to see forever. It was just a great set up for a character, and an unusual one. In the original series, he was the out and out hero. And in this one, he is that, but he’s also less than perfect. He was very adolescent in the original, and I think I brought an adolescence to it that made it even more the case. It was that. It was purely that. And the fact, I knew I was meant to be playing Apollo, and yet I couldn’t find the character Apollo, he was called Lee Adama and it was that, we’re trying something new, and we’re trying to get away from the curse of these names, you know, Apollo, Starbuck. The way that Ron has made the world plausible, is what struck me.

First Look: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Season Four
What can I really tell you about Friday’s fourth and final season premiere of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA? Not nearly as much as I’d like to.
Don’t get me wrong, this TV Addict has got oodles to say about the return of a certain fighter pilot, the newest four members of the Cylon family and the ever-increasingly bizarre actions of one Giaus Baltar. Yet my lips shall remain sealed thanks to the confidentially agreement I was obligated to sign with the SCI FI Network before they would even consider sending me the GALACTICA screener!
No joke. If I even dare mention any of the “Oh No He [or She or It] Didn’t” moments that take place during the episode’s final fifteen minutes, I’m pretty sure that SCI FI has the right to show up at my doorstep and take possession of my dog, TV and future first born.
That said, here is what I can reveal. While BATTLESTAR GALACTICA fans will by no means be let down come Friday at 10PM. Fans might be disappointed to discover that episode scribes David Weddle and Bradley Thompson take a page from the LOST playbook. Raising far more questions than they do answers.
BEVERLY HILLS 90210 Version 2.0 Casts its First Student
Thanks to his fantastic friendship with Rob Thomas, your very own TV Addict will be making a cameo in the upcoming pilot for BEVERLY HILLS 90210: THE NEXT GENERATION is how I’d start this post assuming we were still on the April Fools bandwagon.
But since we’re not, this TV Addict is thrilled to introduce you to Dustin Milligan. The first official new cast member to join the ranks of Beverly Hills 90210: Version 2.0.
CHILDREN OF MEN The TV Series?
By: The REEL Addict
Wandering around on /Film, I came across this little bit of news that apparently CHILDREN OF MEN (one of the best films of 2006) is currently in the process of being made into a television show. Though sometimes movies don’t translate well into TV shows, what helps lend this project some respectability though is the fact that David Eick (writer-producer of the frakkin’ awesome BATTLESTAR GALACTICA TV show) is the one writing the pilot. Though his recent re-imagination of BIONIC WOMAN was lackluster, he has still earned more than the benefit of the doubt, especially with such an intriguing property as CHILDREN OF MEN. Now, according to Eick, he is a bit more interested in what was in the original novel (by P.D. James), specifically the issue of “how society defines responsibility, freedom and a sense of values when it doesn’t necessarily believe humans will survive as a species” and how in this world “young people become the society’s utter focus.” So sounds like it’ll be a slightly different adaptation of the novel, as opposed to a direct translation of the film. Either way, I’m a completely sucker for dystopias and David Eick – who essentially did one already with BATTLESTAR – so I’m there.
What do you guys think? Are you interested in his different approach to the subject matter, or should it stick closer to what the film was like? Do you love the idea of a TV series based on this property, or totally against it?
Casting Couch: Penikett Set to Play [Doll]House and 24’s Cuthbert Returns to TV
As if fans needed another reason to worship the brains behind BUFFY, ANGEL and FIREFLY, Joss Whedon has just cast BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s Tahmoh Penikett in his upcoming FOX pilot DOLLHOUSE. According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Penikett will play Paul Smith, an FBI field agent obsessed with the urban myth of Dollhouse and a twisted romantic foil for Echo.” Which let’s face it, is the ideal role for Penikett. Because when you’re half of the union that gave birth to a the first-ever human-cylon baby, ‘twisted romance’ comes with the territory.
In other casting news, TV Addict favorite Eliza Cuthbert [have you seen THE GIRL NEXT DOOR?] will finally return to TV after an endless string of box office failures. Cuthbert has been cast as the female lead in CBS’ one-hour pilot NY-LON where she’ll play a New York literacy teacher/record store clerk trying to make it work with a London stock broker. Hmmm… I wonder which British heartthrob with an insanely [in a good way] dedicated fan base might be available to play the Jim to Cuthbert’s Pam. Still thinking? Need a hint? See photo below!
TV Addict Interview: GREEK Star Scott Michael Foster
By: Amrie Cunningham [My Take on TV]
In anticipation of the return of GREEK tonight on ABC Family, actor Scott Michael Foster was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to talk about what it’s like playing everybody’s favorite frat boy Cappie.
Why did you want to play Cappie and why do you like playing Cappie and what about this role is good for you to want to play it, to be it?
Scott Michael Foster: Cappie is a fun loving party animal. I would like to think of myself as a person who can get parties started, but I’m not. I will enjoy parties and attend them, but I’m never the guy who can get them going. So playing a character like that is a lot fun, to be the person in charge of a fun party atmosphere. It was kind of cool to live in those shoes for a moment, that’s why it’s a lot of fun for me to play him.
My question is about Cappie and Casey. I was wondering how their relationship is going to evolve now.
In season two, Cappie and Casey, they sort of have busy lives apart from each other. Cappie is involved with Rebecca, as you see at the end of season one, and their relationship blooms in season two. Casey is busy with becoming interim president at Theta Beta, so they don’t ever get a chance to sort of talk or assess their situation. So you won’t see much in season two with them, but their time will come.
Live Blogging GOSSIP GIRL at the Paley Festival
WARNING: On advice courtesy of the fine folks from E!Online, this TV Addict wanted to warn readers that this recap may contain some GOSSIP GIRL spoilers. You’ve officially been warned!
7:07PM: Obligatory introduction by the Paley Center’s Barbara Dixon, who reminds the audience that tonight’s panel being streamed online is a Paley Center first. In other words audience members, put your cell phones away. There’s no need to post bootleg clips on YouTube.
7:09PM: Entertainment Weekly [also known as the TV Addict’s bible] writer Tim Stack is moderating tonight’s panel. He opens up by stating that he’s got the television taste of a sixteen year old girl. Umm… Tim, don’t feel bad, we get the same thing. And it’s a fourteen year old girl, not sixteen!
7:11PM: Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage introduce a clip package highlighting the season thus far. Which will give us GOSSIP veterans some time to well, gossip. Any guesses if ‘S’ and ‘B’ will be sitting next to eachother on the panel? Who’s your pick for the Gossip Guy Ausiello teases will be coming out of the closet when the show returns on April 21. For the record, the TV Addict’s very own behind-the-scenes gossip assures us it’s Eric.
7:28PM: Tim Stack introduces the panel. What the FRAK is Vanessa [actress Jessica Szhor, who looks so much better in person by the way] doing on the panel? Can Dan and Serena not catch a break? At least she left her creepy video camera at home! Also in attendance are Ed Westwick, Matthew Settle, Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, Kelly Rutherford, Taylor Momsen, Leighton Meester, Blake Lively, Bob Levy, Amy Kaufman, Chace Crawford, Penn Badgley, Cecily von Ziegesar and Stephanie Savage.
7:35PM: Moderator Tim Stack is oddly obsessed with Blake’s hair. Cat-fight breaks out between ‘S’ and ‘B’… so kidding!
7:36PM: Original GOSSIP GIRL author Cecily von Ziegesar talks about how the books got published. How do we say this diplomatically… this is the Paley Festival for Media. Not Book Fest. More Josh Schwartz Please.
