The TV Addict Previews BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Prequel CAPRICA
The TV Addict has a secret.
No contrary to popular belief, I’m not the final Cylon! Rather, I’ve been keeping quiet that for the past two weeks I’ve had in my possession the prequel script to CAPRICA, the highly anticipated spin-off of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.
Yet, rather than risk the wrath of the Gods — and by ‘Gods’ I’m naturally referring to CAPRICA show-runners Remi Aubuchon and Ronald D. Moore — this TV thought he’d take a different approach. Because as much fun as it might be to play Michael Ausiello [ie. Spoiler King] for a day, I truly believe that television is far more entertaining when you don’t know what happens next.
But first things first, if you thought BATTLESTAR GALACTICA was a far cry from your father’s science fiction [ie. STAR TREK], you ain’t seen nothing yet. CAPRICA, set a mere fifty-one years prior to the planet’s destruction portrays a far seedier version of modern day earth, essentially reading like an episode of HBO’s THE WIRE. Like all Ronald D. Moore projects, the pilot is riddled with political intrigue, racial prejudice, religious zealots and a seriously cool take on Second Life courtesy of Graystone Industries million dollar idea, the Holodeck HoloBand.
TV Addict Interview: BACK TO YOU Star Josh Gad
By: Amrie Cunningham [My Take on TV]
I tuned into FOX’s Back to You when it premiered earlier this TV season to see two classic TV stars interact. What happened after the pilot was that I found myself tuning in to the next few episodes not only because of the chemistry and the talent of the big names, but the supporting players, who, in my humble opinion, continue to steal the show. One of my favorite supporting players on the show is Ryan Church, the sweaty and anxious news director played so well by Josh Gad. Josh took some time out of his busy schedule to chat with me about his character, about laughing so hard he thought security should show up, and why people with some time on their hands should tune into BACK TO YOU.
I’m so glad to get to talk to you!
I’m so glad that you get to talk to me.
Ha! Just want to start by saying that on your show, you could easily have been one of the characters that gets lost behind Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton, but you really stand out. I find myself laughing at your stuff more than others.
Thank you so much, that means the world to me.
Josh Freidman Talks SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES Season Two
Reporters, including your very own TV Addict [purple tshirt, sunglasses] on the set of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES. Josh Friedman front row, left [wearing a lovely all blue ensemble]
You just found out your show’s been officially picked up for a second season. TERMINATOR THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES showrunner Josh Friedman, what are you going to do next?
Okay, so spending forty-five minutes trying to fend off spoiler hungry reporters isn’t quite a trip to Disney Land. But nonetheless, executive producer Josh Friedman was in good spirits earlier this afternoon and was more than happy to take some time out of his busy schedule to talk to a group of reporters about the continuing adventures of Sarah Connor and Co.
Did the show’s budget give FOX pause when thinking about green-lighting a second season?
No, I don’t think the budget gave FOX pause at all. I think people think we’re spending a lot more money than we are [TV Addict note, I think he’s talking to you Mr. Ausiello]. The production team is incredibly responsible and have remained within the parameters Warner and Fox have given us. If the show looks big, it’s just because we’re all doing our job so well!
So what you’re saying is no underwater Terminator this season?
[Laughs] While I do believe heavily in underwater Terminators, someone’s going to have to write me a big cheque to make that happen! Thinking about the buoyancy of Terminators, how they propel themselves, do they sink? Swim? It’s a weird hobby/infatuation of mine.
Looking back on the first season, can you name one aspect of the show that really worked, and one aspect that you’d like to see improved heading into season two.
This is kind of generic, but I love our cast. When casting a series you never know what you’re going to get. But they really did what they needed to do. In terms of things that could be improved, I want to write a show that is complicated and sophisticated and subtle — everyone does, I guess — but I tried to write something that was very serialized and there were some points where the storytelling was a little muddy where I think we could do a better job.
Good News, Bad News: DOLLHOUSE, GOSSIP GIRL, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT
Good News: Joss Whedon announced on his blog that ANGEL alum Amy Acker will join the cast of DOLLHOUSE as Dr. Claire Saunders, the overseer of the ‘dolls’. Bad News: Having yet to watch BUFFY or ANGEL [sacrilegious I know!] this TV Addict isn’t nearly as excited about the news as he probably should be.
Good News: ‘S’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘N’ and the rest of the Upper East Side Alphabet finally return to TV with brand new episodes of GOSSIP GIRL starting Monday. Bad News: You better be home on Monday, as the CW just announced that the final five episodes of the season will not be streamed online [but will be available on iTunes].
Good News: ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT alums Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Henry Winkler reunite for a new FOX series titled SIT DOWN, SHUT UP. Bad News: The pilot executive produced by DEVELOPMENT mastermind Mitch Hurwitz is animated. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT part deux it ain’t.

Rob Thomas Exits 90210
This just in: Rob Thomas is following in the footsteps of Dylan, Brandon, Valerie and Andrea by leaving 90210. According to E!Online, Thomas “is stepping aside in order to focus on his other two pilots, both for ABC.” Putting to rest the rumor that he’s off to Hong Kong to hang with Mr. and Mrs. Walsh.
Thanks to GMMR for the Tip!
10 Questions with BONES Star David Boreanaz
With BONES returning to FOX tonight at 8PM [GlobalTV in Canada] with the first of six brand new episodes, series star David Boreanaz was kind enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to chat it up with reporters about what fans can expect from the rest of the season, why BONES isn’t on the bubble and let’s face it, the one thing every BONES fan is dying to hear about — the aftershock from November’s big kiss.
1. On the creation of Booth as a character.
Well, I was given the pilot. I read the pilot and I created everything that you’re seeing on screen as far as that character is concerned, what you see physically. And it can’t happen without the words, obviously, but as far as the physicalities and as far as the belt buckle, all the stuff that you see is stuff that I brought to that character.
Everything that they told me about the FBI I threw out the door in a lot of ways. I respected it. I went through the idea of it. I took the approach of the military aspect of the guy working for the FBI rather than a guy who came right out of Harvard and he’s a penny loafer and pencil pusher guy who gets kicked around and who is afraid to get his feet wet.
For me, it was more interesting from that angle with the military guy who was a blue collar guy. And from there, everything exploded. So, you know, I highly, highly respect what they do. When it comes to using any kind of firearms or entries into buildings, I don’t mess around with. I do it as cleanly and as professionally as I can the way they would do it. I work with a great guy, Mike Grasso on the show who is with the LAPD who is fantastic so for me, that is very, very authentic to a T, but there is stuff, character stuff that I like to bring.
2. On his favorite things about Booth.
He’s a real blue collar guy which I’ve really embraced. So it’s been an interesting process with him and I embrace my socks because I wear the same socks. I embrace a lot of the stuff he does. Booth is, obviously, a little bit more Catholic than I am and I wish I was more of a practicing Catholic, but I’m not. I guess that would be one thing I dislike about myself sometimes is I’m not very religious.
Casting Call: Beverly Hills 90210 Version 2.0
Following in the illustrious footsteps of Ian Ziering, are you able to play sixteen when you’re secretly twenty-five? When your glasses come off, do you transform from a brainy newspaper nerd to a slutty vixen? Do big black guys make you weak in the knees? If so you may have what it takes to play one of the gang from 90210 THE NEXT GENERATION.

TV Addict to Showrunners: Cast These Actors
‘Tis the season for casting TV shows. And since not a day seems to go by without news that so-and-so has been cast in a such-and-such a show, this TV Addict thought he’d put his ‘casting agent hat’ on [yes, I really have one] and toss out a few names that anxious showrunners might wish to snatch up. You know, in the interest of hiring talented and frankly, awesome actors who will bring with them an already built-in audience.
ZELJKO IVANEK
Since we’re pretty confident the writer’s of DAMAGES are not planning to ‘pull a PRISON BREAK’, Zeljko Ivanek’s conflicted and brilliant attorney Ray Fiske will not be around to haunt Patty Hewes when the FX drama returns.
LIZA WEIL
It’s a fact. Throughout seven seasons of GILMORE GIRLS, Liza Weil never failed to steal a scene. No matter how good or bad things were going for Lorelai and Rory, Paris Gellar could always be counted on to remind frustrated fans why they fell in love with Stars Hollow to begin with.
PAUL CAMPBELL
Since making the bone-headed move to leave BATTLESTAR GALACTICA for Bill Lawrence’s [SCRUBS] unfortunately titled pilot NOBODY’S WATCHING, the same can be said for Campbell’s career. Isn’t it time Campbell got picked up to play a romantic foil? Or to be more specific, Penny’s boyfriend on the BIG BANG THEORY. Because we’re pretty sure why Penny remains single is a question even Sheldon doesn’t have an answer for.
