Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Questions with MELISSA & JOEY Star Melissa Joan Hart
What is it about MELISSA & JOEY that made you want to come back to doing a series?
Melissa Joan Hart: It was a long road for me. When I finished SABRINA I spent the next year pretty much just planning a wedding, getting married and getting settled into married life. And then the first thing I did the day my baby turned one I went off to Calgary and did a TV movie with Mario Lopez for ABC Family. And I enjoyed it so much just being a mom and being able to be funny and have a great time and work with some fabulous people; I worked with Markie Post on it and just some amazing TV comedy actors that made it so nice to go back to work.
There’s a shorthand between people in television, and especially people in sitcoms, that’s so nice that you just fit and you know how to make it work and it’s fun to go to work every day when you have people that are so professional like that and it made me go, you know what, maybe I really want to be doing sitcoms since I had all these little brush-ins with it again. Originally, I was against returning to sitcoms, I thought I wanted to do episodic [television] because it seemed like the only thing missing from my career. But after guest starring on a few dramas I was like, this is not fun. This isn’t fun to me.
I realized that if I was going to have kids and have a career that the best possible job I could have again would be to go back to sitcoms. With working with Joey in Atlanta on MY FAKE FIANCÉ, I realized that we had something really special, we had a lot in common, we’ve known each other forever, we had this great onscreen chemistry and that we should try to make a go of this. ABC Family agreed and we’re all happy.
Separated at Birth: OUTSOURCED and SCRUBS
To those who say originality in Hollywood is dead, we’ve got two words for you, “Darn Right!” At least as evidence by the latest edition of our popular recurring “Separated at Birth” series, in which we can’t help but notice a striking resemblance between logos for two of NBC’s comedies both past and present. Suffice to say, if imitation is indeed the sincerest form of flattery, the designers behind the SCRUBS logo should really feel quite good about themselves right about now! As for the designers behind the OUTSOURCED logo — well, we’d say that we hope this total lack of creativity isn’t indicative of what’s in store for viewers of NBC’s latest addition to their Thursday “Comedy Night Done Right” lineup — but unfortunately we’ve already seen the pilot.
10 Pressing Questions Prior to the Launch of the Fall 2010 TV Season
By: Vlada Gelman
1. Will THE GOOD WIFE be even better in season two? One of the most successful new dramas of last season isn’t playing it safe. Season two spoilers hint at major shakeups and new characters played by incredible actors like Tammy Blanchard and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS’ Scott Porter in a storyline that will set him up against the mysterious Kalinda. Add to that guest star Michael J. Fox, Carey working for the other side, Alan Cumming as a regular cast member, and THE GOOD WIFE seems poised to top itself. I can’t wait.
2. Can THE VAMPIRE DIARIES’ Nina Dobrev successfully pull off playing two characters in more than just flashbacks? Early buzz seems to suggest, “Yes,” and what we’ve seen so far in previews of season two looks very promising. Plus, after Dobrev’s surprise Emmys performance, I’m not going to bet against the girl.
3. Will the COMMUNITY writers run from Jeff and Annie again? I was lucky enough to visit the Community set recently, where Joel McHale and Alison Brie talked about their characters unexpected chemistry, so I’ll have more about this later. But I’m still concerned that the Community writers are scared of the unexpected, somewhat inappropriate chemistry between Jeff and the much younger Annie.

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: New Fall Shows We’re Really Really Excited For*
With the Fall TV Season just around the corner, this TV Addict can’t help but notice a distressing lack of excitement surrounding the new season. And while we’re the first to admit that September 2010 may be lacking an obvious breakout hit like say a GLEE or MODERN FAMILY, there are certainly more than a few reasons to be excited. With LONE STAR’s James Wolk, Adriana Pallicki, and Eloise Mumford just the tip of iceberg.
LONE STAR
Move over GOSSIP GIRL, there’s a new man in town. That man: Fall TV’s next big thing and Kyle Chandler look-a-like James Wolk, who fans will soon be swooning over as Bob Allen — a con artist torn between two lives and two woman in separate parts of Texas. Executive producers Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman (PARTY OF FIVE) call it “DALLAS without the Cheese.” We call it a guilty pleasure we don’t have to feel guilty about obsessing over. Premieres September 20 on FOX (GlobalTV in Canada) [See Trailer]
