As if the sixth season premier of PSYCH is not enough to get everyone excited, in a recent conference call with press, creator and executive producer Steve Franks provided a bit more insight into his dream PSYCH episodes and what he hopes for in the (cross-your fingers!) show’s seventh season.
James Roday alluded to the seasonal finale of Season 6 as having a big cliffhanger. If the series is not picked up for Season 7, would you conclude the show with a movie or something like that?
STEVE: It was sort of a natural. When we’re finishing up the season finale, we had something big planned that we didn’t think work well enough and something we sort of saved. And as we looked at the way the story is developing, along the course we found like a really, really cool cliffhanger, and we ended up shooting that as our finale. So if we don’t get a Season 7, I think we could create a situation where fans would want a riot on Wall Street as well. So it was only after the fact that when I watched it, I’m like “Oh my God. There’s no way they can’t pick us up for a Season 7 now.” But I’m always thinking about the movie. And actually, when we go in to talk to the executives, I don’t know if it would be on the table. But I have not only a way we could do the movie, but I have sort of the world and the story of it. So I would want to do a Season 7 and a movie. That would make me happy. And I want to make sure if we do the movie, we all need to get on the same page. If we do the movie, I’d want it to be something that was in theaters, even if it’s a small run in theater and not just do a direct to video, like a double episode of the show. I’d want it to feel special. I’d want it to feel like it was something that was worthy of being in the theaters. I think we have something that’s really fun. Making the money and the schedule to work out is always a challenge with these things. But for me it’s like I come from features. I structure our show every week, like you’re seeing an hour-long summer popcorn movie. So I don’t think the leap to the big screen is that far for our show. And it would make this experience even greater than it’s been. So I’m going to be pushing for the movie in the off-season and I’ll be pushing for a Season 7. We’ll see if I get both. [Read more…]

HAVEN Exuberantly Celebrates its Third Season Renewal at New York Comic-Con
Every once in a blue moon, the stars align and something miraculous happens. In this case, HAVEN’s third season was announced simultaneously with its appearance at New York Comic-Con. It was perfect timing as it allowed fans to celebrate face-to-face with the cast and creators of HAVEN. So as NYCC embraced and showcased the supernatural sci-fi series for the first time, fans from around the globe raced to join in the festivities.
As limos arrived, fans streaked through the hallways, and security smiled as both the talent and fans strained to get a glimpse of each other, the air was filled with anticipation. This was not just a day to celebrate; it was a day to revel in the mutual love-fest from both sides of the entertainment spectrum. It is a curious symbiotic relationship, for entertainment needs both talent and an appreciative audience. The most gifted writer or performer in the world is but a voice echoing in a forest without someone to watch and listen. So when such an occasion arises, it is a joyous thing to be a part of — and the HAVEN panel and autograph signing at NYCC was one such beautiful moment in time. [Read more…]
Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Questions with MAN UP! Star Henry Simmons
When you think Henry Simmons, the six-foot-four actor best known for his role on NYPD BLUE, the first thing that comes to mind probably isn’t the fact that this man has to, well, man up. But that’s precisely what he’ll be doing tonight at 8:30PM on ABC when his new ensemble comedy series premieres. So just what is it like playing Grant Sweet, the beacon of manliness that is supposed to serve as a shining example for three Playstation playing, skin cream wearing thirty-somethings (Mather Zickel, Christopher Moynihan and Dan Fogler)? We recently had the opportunity to chat with the actor to find out just that. [Read more…]
NYCC Live Blog: TERRA NOVA
11:59PM: The Q&A portion of the panel kicked off following a screening of tonight’s fantastic episode that sheds some much-needed light on Sixer leader Mira’s motivations while building the beginnings of a very-welcome wedge between Jim Shannon and Commander Taylor. In attendance were executive producer Brannon Braga, Stephen Lang (Commander Taylor) and Jason O’Mara (Jim Shannon).
12:00PM: In response to tonight’s episode that will leave fans scratching their heads over what the purpose of the colony is all about, the panel’s moderator posed Brannon Braga that very question. “Well clearly something else is afoot that has something to do with the year 2149 and it’s not good,” said a very coy Braga. “Mira is not so different in her motivations than the colony, she just wants a better life as well, but is going about it in an entirely different way.”
12:02PM: According to O’Mara, hanging from a wire for three hours while a dinosaur attempts to bite your head off is not nearly as much fun as the script makes it seem! [Read more…]
NYCC Live Blog: ONCE UPON A TIME
11:15AM: The pilot screening of ONCE UPON A TIME concludes to the tune of a very enthusiastic response from a respectable-sized audience at New York Comic Con 2011 while creators and executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis take to the stage for a brief Q&A moderated by the always informative Matt “TVLine” Mitovich.
11:17AM: LOST fans will be pleased to discover that the talented twosome of Kitsis and Horowitz — who in case you didn’t know spent the last six years honing their craft under LOSTerminds Damon Lindefof and Carlton Cuse — have littered the series premiere with LOST related easter-eggs. Joked Kitsis, “We can’t help ourselves!”
11:18AM: Similar to that of LOST, the structure of ONCE UPON A TIME will focus on telling the story of one character per episode, with upcoming episodes revolving around the Evil Queen’s side of the story, the origins of Snow and Charming’s relationship, and how Rumpelstiltskin came to be.
