Best Meltdown: Watching SURVIVOR’s Brandon lose his marbles was the very definition of train-wreck TV. We wanted to look away but… oh, who are we kidding?
Coolest Casting, Daytime Division: HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL alum Corbin Bleu signed on to Hulu.com’s reboot of ONE LIFE TO LIVE, which is slated to return in late April. Maybe he can get buddy Zac Efron to pay Llanview a visit…
Best Reason Not To Set Your DVR: AMC and Netflix announced that three months after THE KILLING’s third season wraps its run on the former, the latter will make the season available to subscribers.
Cruelest Irony: Pugnacious pundit Keith Olbermann reached a settlement in his $50 million lawsuit against former employer Current TV… which he can’t talk about because of the confidentiality clause.
Best Rebranding: Avery’s suggestion that Seattle Grace be renamed after Lexie and Mark made even this jaded GREYS ANATOMY viewer well up just a bit.
Most Unexpected Twist: VERONICA MARS may get that much-discussed move thanks to Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell’s Kickstarter effort which proved that fans really are willing to put their money where there mouths are.
Most Overdue Confession: At long last, GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Sabrina told Patrick that he was the guy she dreamed of playing doctor with.
Dumbest Blonde: THE BACHELOR’s Sean Lowe, who just joined the cast of DANCING WITH THE STARS, insists that he hates the whole “reality-show fame” thing, apparently not understanding that he could just say no.
Worst Trend: NBC is giving its new reality series READY FOR LOVE a weekly two-hour slot, and CELEBRITY APPRENTICE will begin airing similarly supersized outings on April 14. Remember when the only 120 minute thing airing on any network was a movie? [Read more…]

DOWNTON ABBEY! AMERICAN HORROR STORY! DALLAS! ARCHER! SURVIVOR! CULT! The TV Addict Week in Rewind
Coolest Casting: Ryan Murphy revealed that Kathy Bates has been cast in season three of AMERICAN HORROR STORY as a character “five times meaner than her Misery character!
Worst Trend: DOWNTON ABBEY’s duplicitous Ms. O’Brien (Siobhan Finneran) is following in Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens) and Lady Sybil’s (Jessica Brown Findlay) footsteps by announcing her exit from the hit UK series.
Most Surprising News: The CW announced 90210 would end after this season. Oh, that wasn’t the shocker. For most of us, it was that this show is still on the air.
Smartest Move: With ratings down so far this season, TNT put the past six episodes of DALLAS on-line in the hope of getting people interested in (and caught up on) the drama before the highly-anticipated funeral of the late Larry Hagman’s alter ego, J.R. Ewing.
Why The Soap Fan In Your Life Celebrated This Week: ALL MY CHILDREN — the legendary soap ABC foolishly canceled — went back into production this week in preparation for a return (via Hulu) later this spring. ONE LIFE TO LIVE is expected to begin production in two weeks.
Most Mixed Message: Although Netflix’ president said there wouldn’t be a second season of ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, a spokesperson kept hope alive by saying that decision wasn’t carved in stone.
Least Aware: SURVIVOR’s Shamar insisted he didn’t want to be labeled as the show’s “angry black guy,” yet his behavior pretty much assured that’s how he’ll be remembered. [Read more…]
Consumer Watchdog: Will Canadians Ever Stop Getting Screwed By Bell Media and Rogers’ Monopolizing Ways?
Good News: Years after HBO released their award-winning HBO GO service, Canadian counterpart Astral Media has finally unveiled TMN GO, their new service that “puts more than 1,500 hours of high-definition quality programming from The Movie Network, HBO Canada and The Movie Network Encore (TMN Encore) at subscribers’ fingertips. Bad News: According to an Astral press release, at launch, the service is only available to customers “of Bell Fibe TV, Bell Satellite TV and Cogeco Cable, with Rogers launching the service in the coming weeks and additional television providers expected to join shortly thereafter.”
Now, as a longtime Rogers customer, it’s not so much that this TV Addict is angry with not being able to access TMN GO at launch — after-all, taking full advantage of the service, not to mention many other fantastic legal online viewing alternatives such as Netflix is pretty much a moot point thanks to Canada’s ridiculously prohibitive and costly data caps. Rather our frustration stems from this being just the latest example of why hardworking and honest Canadians (Read: The ones who actually believe in legally paying for content that Networks and Studios spend hundreds of millions of dollars per year to produce!) continue to be helpless pawns for Canada’s two major telecommunication companies to take advantage of. What’s worse. This is just the beginning. [Read more…]
The Business of Show: Is the Practice of Releasing Pilots Early Online Doing More Harm Than Good?
By: BigTVFan
Apparently the less than stellar ratings for ABC’s ZERO HOUR hasn’t deterred ABC. Now they’ve released the RED WIDOW pilot 2 weeks early. I questioned this decision a few weeks ago. (Why release Zero Hour early?) Now there’s even more evidence that in most cases the negatives for this practice outweigh any positive. I think this trend is self-defeating . Every show this year except REVOLUTION that was released early has tanked. Most recently, any show released early has tanked horribly. SMASH had its first hour released a few weeks early and the 2 hour premiere opened at a low 1.2. DO NO HARM was on every online outlet weeks before and garnered the lowest premiere in broadcast network history and is already off the air. ZERO HOUR was ABCs lowest rated premiere in the all important 18-49 demo, EVER. [Read more…]

We Shine the Spotlight on ARROW Star Colin Donnell
Heroes are carefully crafted from the brutal sands of time, and in the CW series ARROW, Oliver Queen was forged by five harsh years trying to survive on an island hunted and tormented by oppressors at every turn. It steeled his resolve to return home and eradicate the evil festering in his home city so that those he loved would be free of such fear and domination. Fortunately for Oliver, he has a few key friends and family watching his back along the way. At last month’s WB Mondo International Press Tour, one such friend, actor Colin Donnell — who plays Oliver’s friend-turned-business-partner Tommy Merlyn — shared insights into his characters increasingly complex relationships, a few teasers about what’s upcoming on ARROW, and what TV Shows he’s addicted to on DVD. Winter TCA 2013 Wrap-Up: Renewals, Revelations and Surprise Kisses!
Now that the Winter 2013 Television Critic’s Association Press Tour is finally over, it seemed like a good time to recall some of the choice moments over the 14-day star-studded event. Since it would be nearly impossible to recount all the stand-out moments and all the cool shows upcoming this year, we have selected only a few to showcase.
The Kiss
Nothing was more buzzed about than the unexpected kiss between stars Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy at the Fox panel for THE FOLLOWING. It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, but truly you had to have been there for the impact of that memorable moment to be felt. The ease with Kevin Back just casually leaned over and planted a kiss on his co-star was a testament to the strong bond between them. Viewers may be buzzing about the underlying sexual energy between their characters on screen in THE FOLLOWING, but that kiss was a pure delight for those who got to see it in person. So does anyone remember that THE FOLLOWING is a show about serial killers at this point? (THE FOLLOWING makes its debut on Monday, January 21st at 9PM on Fox.) [Read more…]
