Dean Winchester is no more — at least for now. The eldest Winchester brother chose to become possessed by Michael on the season 13 finale of SUPERNATURAL and now the archangel has pushed Dean’s consciousness aside and taken his body out for a ride. As the cast told us during the SUPERNATURAL press room at Comic-Con this summer, the search for Dean is a big part of the initial season 14 storyline. Star Jared Padalecki said that “[Sam has] had no communication with Dean or Michael but he has leads and all hands on deck – [including] Apocalypse World hunters and Bobby and Cas and Mary and Charlie and Ketch. They have some leads and they’re following each and every one, even if that lead is a dead end it’s still not a complete dead end.”
While Sam and his friends are trying to find Dean’s body, Michael is using his vessel to enact a new plan for this world. Destroying his own world didn’t work out so great for the archangel according to executive producer Andrew Dabb: “Even Michael in the last episode of last season said the world he has right now isn’t the world he wanted. This was not the plan; a bombed out apocalypse was not the goal. So when he comes to our world he has a second chance — that’s the good news. The bad news is what is he going to do and how is he going to go about doing it? We know that whatever happened with the angels and demons and all-out war, this nuclear war essentially, [it] did not work. He’s going to have a different strategy going in. This strategy may look, on the surface — a little less violent. The world is not being blasted to ash. But that doesn’t mean it’s going to be any less insidious, or that his end goal [isn’t the same] — which is essentially to create a world that is pure enough for him, [that is] worthy of him.” Based on the photos we also know that Michael will meet Sister Jo (a.k.a. the angel Anael) and Sam will be too upset about his brother to shave his beard.
