I just got used to seeing the evil Kai (Chris Wood) from THE VAMPIRE DIARIES struggling to become a good guy as SUPERGIRL’s Mon-El. Granted, it was not always easy as he plays a bad guy so frighteningly well. Just a couple of weeks ago, Supergirl was teaching him to change in an episode titled “We Can Be Heroes.”
Has that notion permeated its way through the TV universe and resurrected the late, lamented Kai and brought him back as a hero? Perhaps, but Kai has never been very trustworthy.
Wood, whose name was not in the press release for this week’s episode, “The Lies Will Catch Up to You,” referred to only as “an old enemy,” is the driving force in the photos and clips, I am guessing that his resurrection is one of the many returns in effect that marks the conclusion of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES 8-year run, including Michael Trevino as Tyler Lockwood, Steven R. McQueen as Jeremy Gilbert, David Anders as John Gilbert and Kayla Ewell as Vicky Donovan.
As the Mystic Fallers enter their 4 final episodes tonight, one can surmise that Kai’s return has something to do with reversing Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) sleeping curse. After all, he was the baddie who hexed her into the sleeping beauty state and tied her resurrection to Bonnie’s (Kat Graham) death.
Damon (Ian Somerhalder), none too happy about having to lose his BFF to get his long-lost-love back, no doubt has “alt plans” for the evil Gemini twin. When Kai returns from Hell, facilitated by Matt’s (Zach Roerig) ringing Hells’ Bell, Alaric (Matt Davis) is ready to send him right back. After all, Kai did kill his own twin sister at her and Alaric’s wedding.
While Alaric would be happy to return Kai to Cade (guest star Wolé Parks), Kai proposes an “alt solution.” The possibility of bringing Elena back to life without Bonnie dying is one that Damon embraces. Kai, wanting to stay on Earth and avoid the cellar, makes a deal with Damon, but can he be trusted?
As Alaric and Damon continue their plan to destroy Cade, Stefan (Paul Wesley) is held captive by a surprising acquaintance. Forced to confront a dark secret from his past, Caroline (Candice King) and Matt try to keep Stefan’s violent history from destroying him.
Cade, not to be outdone by some mere vampires, focuses his attention on Bonnie and digs deep into her mind.
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES also stars Michael Malarkey (credit only). Guest stars include Kenny Barr, John D. Hickman, Maurice Johnson. Brent McGee, Lily Rose Mumford, Tierney Mumford and Michael David Yuhl. Tony Solomons directed the episode, which was written by Neil Reynolds.
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES airs tonight (February 17) at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
