The 1970s are drawing to a close as season 4 of THE CROWN begins. And with Charles getting old, Queen Elizabeth and her family become preoccupied with securing the line of succession and finding an appropriate young bride for the Prince of Wales, who is now 30 and still unmarried. Enter Lady Diana Spencer, who will help provide a much-needed fairytale to unite the British people. At least, that happens in public. Behind the closed palace doors, the Royal family is becoming more divided – a situation that will eventually lead to tragedy. Elsewhere in the new season, Britain’s first female Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher is settling in to 10 Downing Street and the country will soon start to feel the impact of her divisive policies. As tensions grow between her and the Queen, the Falklands War begins.
The fourth season stars Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, Marion Bailey as The Queen Mother, Emma Corrin as Diana Spencer.
