This is it, SUPERNATURAL fans – the end of the line. The very last season premiere is nearly upon us and by the time April/May rolls around, we will be at the series finale. But there’s still 20 more episodes to go and today we have our first real look at the fifteenth and final season premiere.
When we last saw the Winchester brothers, they had angered God and he opened up the gates of Hell to unleash all manner of bad things in an effort to put an end to this particular world and its story. But, as you can imagine, Sam and Dean won’t go down without a fight. As executive producer Brad Buckner said in the Comic-Con press room, the nature of free will will be explored a lot this coming season. “I think [the finale was a huge game changer]. The whole exploration of your belief system and what the nature of free will is. If humans have been given free will so they can essentially solve their own problems as things pop up and God might intervene if it was something [super big]. When you think then, that this God that you always had some kind of faith in is actually causing catastrophic events, then aren’t you kind of obligated to use your free will to do what you can to prevent that and stop him? The whole concept of free will takes on a new meaning. It’s not something that was granted, it’s something that you’ve got and that now you have to use somehow against the one that [gave] it to you.”
The season premiere will pick up soon after the last one left off, with the Winchester brothers and Castiel forced to fight their way out of a horde of bad guys in a cemetary and then head out to try and stop some of the monsters, bad guys and creatures they had previously defeated that have now resurfaced. The new trailer below highlights this and the first case that the boys investigate is the return of the Woman in White, which is fitting given that this was the case they dealt with all those years ago in the pilot episode. SUPERNATURAL returns for an all new season on Thursday, October 10 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
