In a stunning move, ABC has reversed its decision to renew ROSEANNE and cancelled the revival series after a racist tweet from its star, Roseanne Barr. Barr made a horribly racist tweet about former White House adviser Valerie Jarret on Tuesday morning, which she later deleted and apologized for. But ABC opted to cancel the series instead.
“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” reads a statement from ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey.
The ROSEANNE revival series did very well in the ratings when it premiered midseason on ABC and while the ratings cooled a bit, it still garnered a superb 3.3 rating in live + same day. The show was going to anchor ABC’s new Tuesday night fall line-up, but presumably the network will make other plans now.
