In addition to announcing its 2018-2019 primetime schedule, The CW also announced that three of its shows will be coming to an end next year: JANE THE VIRGIN, iZOMBIE and CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND.
JANE THE VIRGIN ended its fourth season with the revelation that Jane’s long-dead husband, Michael, is still actually alive (in true telenovela fashion!). CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND ended its third season with the news that Rebecca is facing a long prison sentence after pleading guilty for attempted murder of her ex-boyfriend, Trent. iZOMBIE is currently airing its fourth season and its finale will air on May 28.
All three shows, particularly CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND, had never really had high ratings, but the network has been committed to them for a number of years. JANE THE VIRGIN and CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND both won Golden Globes for their lead actresses and are critical darlings.
Mark Pedowitz, CW President, said they would “miss each of those shows in terms of what they’ve done to help the [CW’s reputation] across the board”. They hope the creators of the shows will come back to the network with new shows in the future.
