The CW has announced five pick-ups for the 2018-2019 season after renewing more than 10 of its existing shows.
ALL AMERICAN, from uber-producer Greg Berlanti, is inspired by the life of professional football player Spencer Paysinger. The series focuses on Spencer Janes, a rising high school player from South L.A. who is recruited to play for Beverly Hills High.
IN THE DARK focuses on a young woman named Murphy who is blind and also happens to be the only “witness” to the murder of her friend, Tyson. Since Tyson is a drug dealer and the police can’t find a body, no one really believes Murphy when she insists he’s dead. But she sets out with her guide dog to prove that something happened to her friend.
The CHARMED reboot was created by Jennie Urman (JANE THE VIRGIN) and focuses on three sisters who are from a family of witches. The original CHARMED ran for eight seasons on the WB (now The CW).
ROSWELL NEW MEXICO, also a reboot from a WB show, focuses on a girl who lives in Roswell, New Mexico and is shocked when a few people she knows turn out to be aliens. While the original series centered around a group of high school kids, the reboot focuses on Liz Ortecho, a biomedical engineer who is the daughter of undocumented immigrants. She returns home to Roswell to help out her father and discovers that a boy she knew in high school is an alien.
The ORIGINALS spin-off, titled LEGACIES, focuses on Hope, Klaus and Hayley’s daughter. Danielle Rose Russell, who took over as a teenage version of Hope in the final season of THE ORIGINALS, will be joined by Matt Davis, who played Alaric Saltzman on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.
The network has also opted not to pick up the potential SUPERNATURAL spin-off WAYWARD SISTERS, according to its creator Robert Berens.
Finally, the network also opted to renew iZOMBIE for a fifth season.
