Netflix has made two casting announcements for season 3 of THE CROWN: both Helena Bonham Carter and Jason Watkins have joined the cast.
With THE CROWN progressing through the life of Queen Elizabeth and those around her, the cast for the first two seasons have “aged/younged out”, so to speak, and the producers have recast all of the roles with older actors. Helena Bonham Carter is set to play Princess Margaret, the character formerly played by Vanessa Kirby. Bonham Carter said “I’m not sure which I’m more terrified about – doing justice to the real Princess Margaret or following in the shoes of Vanessa Kirby’s Princess Margaret. The only thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be shorter (than Vanessa).”
In addition, Jason Watkins is set to play Harold Wilson. Wilson was Prime Minister of England from 1964–70 and 1974–76.
Season 3 of THE CROWN will launch in 2019 on Netflix.
