THE MAYOR is all about an unlikely candidate winning an election. No, not *that* candidate. The new ABC comedy revolves around young rapper Courtney Rose, who has toiled for years in a small inner-city apartment making his music while living with his BFF and mother, Dina Rose. But Courtney is tired of waiting for his big break, so he comes up with a crazy publicity stunt: running for mayor of his hometown, Fort Grey, California, to generate buzz for his music career.
The situation ends up backfiring when Courtney actually wins the election. The citizens thought he was the right person to shake up the city they love, so Courtney postpones his musical ambitions and takes the job.
Fortunately, he’s not alone. He’ll be leaning on the brilliant, ruthless, and tactical Valentina Barella — who remembers Courtney as the class clown who cheated off her during high school pre-calc. His cabinet also boasts two unconventional political aides: his questionably qualified buddies, Jermaine, the smooth operator, and T.K., the sensitive sweetheart.
