25 year old Shaun Murphy is unlike any doctor you’ve ever seen. In THE GOOD DOCTOR, San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital is getting ready to hire Shaun, but he’s already causing problems for the Board of Directors. Shaun is autistic and has savant syndrome — meaning he has real and fundamental difficulties communicating and connecting, but he’s also a genius with almost perfect recall.
Shaun didn’t have an easy childhood, having been bullied by other kids and his own father. But when he was 14 years old his genius attracted the attention of Dr. Ira Glassman, who mentored him and now wants to hire him. While Ira is the President of the hospital, he still needs to convince the other key players that Shaun is the right man for the job. There’s Allegra Alexis, who controls the Board’s purse strings; Jessica Preston, whose grandfather started the hospital; and Horace Andrews, Head of Surgery who considers Shaun too big a risk for his department to take on.
When these people see Shaun use his knowledge to save a young boy’s life they can’t deny that he could be an amazing surgeon. But one day his lack of judgment could cost someone their life. Can Shaun work with the rest of his team and prove that he’s the right man for the job?
