There’s been a lot of news coming out of Netflix today, including a season 2 renewal for TRAVELERS, the premiere date for GIRLBOSS, renewals for LOVE and THE OA, and the season 5 premiere date for OITNB. Netflix has also announced premiere dates for three new shows (ANNE, DEAR WHITE PEOPLE, CASTING JONBENET) as well as the return date for a new season of GRACE AND FRANKIE.
First up is the season 3 premiere of GRACE AND FRANKIE, which will stream worldwide as of March 24.
CASTING JONBENET, a new documentary series, will debut on April 28. Over 15 months, the filmmakers traveled to the Ramseys’ Colorado hometown to elicit responses, reflections and even performances from the local community. “In doing so, Casting JonBenet examines how this crime and its resulting mythologies have shaped the attitudes and behavior of successive generations of parents and children.”
DEAR WHITE PEOPLE is “set against the backdrop of a predominantly white Ivy League university where racial tensions bubble just below the surface. The satirical series — which picks up where the acclaimed 2014 film by the same name left off – follows a group of Winchester University’s students of color as they navigate a diverse landscape of social injustice, cultural bias, political correctness (or lack thereof) and sometimes misguided activism in the millennial age.” The series will premiere on April 28.
ANNE will premiere on May 12 on Netflix. “ANNE is a coming-of-age story about an outsider who, against all odds and many challenges, fights for love and acceptance and her place in the world. Set in Prince Edward Island in the late 1890s, the series centers on Anne Shirley (Amybeth McNulty), a young orphaned girl who, after an abusive childhood spent in orphanages and the homes of strangers, is mistakenly sent to live with an aging sister and brother. Over time, 13-year-old Anne will transform the lives of Marilla (Geraldine James) and Matthew Cuthbert (R.H. Thomson) and eventually the entire small town in which they live with her unique spirit, fierce intellect and brilliant imagination.”
