Ella will become embroiled in matters of Heaven in this week’s LUCIFER when an important celestial artifact goes missing. During a recent visit to the set of LUCIFER in Vancouver, the cast spoke to journalists about what to expect on this week’s episode.
Ella Steps Into the Spotlight. This week Ella will become a major player in the episode. When Lucifer learns that Azrael’s blade has been stolen by a human, he enlists Ella’s help in tracking down the weapon. Aimee Garcia (Ella) said that “Ella has a big episode coming up — episode 8. And they have a very unique relationship in that they haven’t slept together, there’s no celestial baggage. They aren’t in love with each other. So it’s a very no baggage relationship and to me it’s a very playful one. From the first hug that, again, wasn’t scripted, and I just said ”you know what? I’m not going to tell him I’m going for it’, I just went for it. The way he received it, I thought ‘ok, we’re going to be partners in crime’. So he asks her for a huge favor in episode 8 and she kind of puts her job on the line to help him out. And it’s the first time in their friendship — in their relationship — that she’s like ‘look, man, I know we’re buddies, I know we play all the time, but I need you to come clean with me’.” But her desire for the truth is going to war with his recent revelation to Dr. Linda. When Ella asks for the truth Lucifer “says ‘last time I came clean with someone, it was interesting.’ So I can’t say if [he’s going to tell her the truth] or not, but it’s opened Pandora’s Box. It’s the first human who has seem him in his actual vulnerable, real form and that’s the kind of show this is. You think it’s a case-of-the-week and next thing you know, Pandora’s Box has been opened.”
Ella as a Confidante. We saw Chloe embrace Ella at the end of the last episode, appreciated that her work colleague had helped her with a heavily personal case. And we’re going to see this friendship deepen, according to Garcia. “What I love about their relationship is that it really starts forming into a deeper and deeper friendship and kind of surpasses colleagues and goes more into just girls being friends. I just love positive female relationships, especially in the workplace where…especially with social media there’s so much tearing down of women, that I love that she just jumps right in and doesn’t even think about it and helps her out. And they’re in it for the right reasons. So you’ll see more of that in episode 7 and episode 8 where Ella really becomes a confidante. And Ella becomes a rock for the team as far as someone who you can really trust and is excellent at her job. And it’s really nice to play that.”
But Will Ella Come Between Chloe and Lucifer? Not really, but expect a funny scene in this week’s episode according to Garcia. “I love that most people were thinking that Ella would come in and disrupt this great relationship that Lucifer and Chloe have and….actually, what’s really funny is Chloe may get a little jealous in episode 8 but for the wrong reasons. It’s really funny. There’s this scene that our showrunner called us [about] and they’re like ‘we had to watch the scene in episode 8 four times because we couldn’t get through it as writers without laughing. We couldn’t hear the scene because everyone was laughing so hard’. Um, so Lauren [German, who plays Chloe], actually, has a lot to do with it because she’s reacting to something that Ella does very innocently, but behavior-wise it’s like ‘whoa’. And I can’t believe the network actually let us get away with it, but it’s such a treat.”
Maze and Amenadiel Team Up. This pair has had their ups and downs since LUCIFER began. They’re natural enemies, but they also slept together last season and started to become friends. And while they haven’t had much interaction in season 2, DB Woodside (Amenadiel) said that “Something to look forward to, in Episodes 8 and 9, for reasons I can’t share right now, Amenadiel and Maze will be forced to work together. I think anytime those two are forced to work together, you have Amenadiel who is very stoic and serious and Maze who is a homicidal maniac. If you put those two together, you really think comedy. Lesley-Ann, who is really one of my favorites, one of my best friends, we have some really, really funny stuff. I hope people like it.”
Don’t miss an all new episode of LUCIFER tonight (November 14) at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on Fox (U.S.) and CTV (Canada).
