Lee Daniels created a hit for Fox with EMPIRE and now the network is hoping for another popular musical drama series with STAR.
While EMPIRE is all about a musical family, STAR shines the light on a musical group. The series focuses on three talented singers who are all on the road to success. First there’s Star herself, “a tough-as-nails young woman, who came up in the foster care system and decides one day to take control of her destiny.” She tracks down her sister, Simone, and her Instagram BFF, Alexandra, and the three women travel to Atlanta together to become stars. They soon meet Carlotta, who acts as a surrogate mother to the young crew, as well as Jahil, a down-on-his-luck talent agent who wants the girls to help revitalize his career.
As the girls delve deeper into the music business, “reality soon dawns on the girls’ fantasies, and they start to learn that ambition often comes at a cost. And sometimes that cost is too high.”
