ARROW and THE FLASH are coming together to air their second crossover episode this week and the shows will be introducing Vandal Savage, who will act as the main antagonist for the upcoming spin-off LEGENDS OF TOMORROW. Savage, an immortal from the days of ancient Egypt, is coming after Central City’s Kendra, a woman he believes is from his past. When Kendra and Cisco get attacked by Savage, they turn to Barry for help and he, in turn, seeks out Oliver and Team Arrow for assistance.
During a visit to the ARROW and FLASH sets in Vancouver earlier in the fall, we spoke to Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin about the upcoming crossover, which they had just finished filming. According to Amell, Savage is “a spectacular character” and he said that last year’s crossover “was designed that if you were a fan of one show or a fan of the other show, you could enjoy [episode 1.08] of FLASH and [episode 3.08] of ARROW independent of one another.” This year, however, the individual episodes are extremely connected. “If you put them back-to-back on one night, they would run like one two-hour episode of television.” He also said that most of the FLASH episode takes place in Star City and vice versa. The world is also expanding and Amell hinted that “we shot a scene with like nine superheroes in it. Nine people with either powers or supersuits. And it was an amazing thing.” “[The crossover] feels even bigger,” confirmed Gustin, who says that he’s having “more and more fun” as Barry Allen and The Flash. He also hinted that he was working a lot with Casper Crump as Savage who he says is “really, really good.”
In terms of who will be appearing in the episode, you can see from photos and a preview that the majority of Team Flash will be in attendance (including Caitlin and Cisco), as well as most of Team Arrow (including Felicity, Diggle, Laurel, Thea and Malcolm. Jay Garrick will also be appearing in the episode, but not with the crossover characters. He’ll be back in Central City with Harrison, who has developed a serum to make Barry run faster and asks Jay to test it out. One character that won’t be making an appearance, unfortunately, is Iris.
Part 1 of the crossover begins in THE FLASH on December 1 at 8:00 p.m. and part 2 airs on ARROW on December 2 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
