Wardrobe
For the normal clothes, the Wardrobe department does a lot of shopping, but for speciality characters like Cain costumes are built from the ground up.
A lot of the costumes in the warehouse below are used on background and day players and those can get reused. Sometimes the background actors will wear their own clothes, but other times they will pull clothes to put on them. Costume Designer Kerry Weinrauch shared that in the episode “LARP and the Real Girl”, they rented a few of the costumes, but they made a lot of the outfits for the different factions who fought in the battles.
The Impala
Picture Car Coordinator Jeff Budnick shared some behind the scenes tidbits of the Impala in our post-“Baby” article, including how many cars they have and the fact that one of the cars can be taken apart for interesting shots. The car we saw (below) is what’s known as the “hero car”, which is the one that is in the best condition and is typically seen in almost every episode at one point or another.
The “hero” Impala has a 502 big block engine with 550 horsepower for all of you car aficionados. Budnick also said that all of the cars have air conditioning vents in them, but this car is the only one that actually has running A/C, so the vents are all fake in the other cars.
Budnick also said that it’s getting expensive to get parts for the cars they have on hand because the show has made this car so popular. At one point you could get a whole car for $500, but SUPERNATURAL has since made the car iconic. Now everyone who has an Impala (even if it’s in rough shape) wants $5,000 or more for it because they know about the car’s popularity. He’s also spoken with fans who have been restoring their own Impalas and given them tips. In fact, in the episode “Bloodlines”, they used a fan car when they shot in Chicago so they didn’t have to take one of the Vancouver cars across the border in to the U.S.
SUPERNATURAL airs on Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
