Direct from San Diego Comic Con 2013: John Barrowman Uncensored!

john barrowman

Fans across the globe have been faithfully following John Barrowman through his diverse entertainment career.  It was thus with great pleasure that John made such a splash on the scene at San Diego Comic-Con this year.  He not only hosted his own panel alongside his sister Carole Barrowman, John also showed up for a surprise appearance at the ARROW panel, participated in numerous autograph signings, and attended all the glitzy parties, including the Entertainment Weekly party hosted at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego.

In an exclusive interview, John candidly talked about filming his final scenes on ARROW as The Dark Archer, the complex relationship between Malcolm and Tommy Merlyn, admitted that he and co-star Susanna Thompson intentionally added a bit of flirtation to their characters interactions, and the one criteria John had before signing on to the series last year — namely, he was promised a scene where Stephen Amell would be half-naked.  He also elaborated on his wild speculations about a how possible it would be to have a Captain Jack/River Song DOCTOR WHO spinoff, provided scoop in his new ABC series “Sing You Face Off,” and gave the 411 on his book series “Hollow Earth” (which he co-authors with his sister Carole).

John Barrowman has become a fan-favorite in multiple sci-fi/fantasy universes through his work in DOCTOR WHO, TORCHWOOD, ARROW, and now his children’s book series.  But he also has a long career singing, dancing and performing live for his fans.  His tours sell-out everywhere he goes and there is a good reason for it:  he unabashedly and enthusiastically loves his fans.

That wild affection was felt at John’s Comic-Con panel “Anything Goes,” where John took the stage with his sister Carole and then introduced his husband Scott to the fans.  It was a love-fest all around as the fans greeted them.  John and Scott happily danced to Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger” and then regaled fans with tales of their home life and John’s unfortunate incident with a DeLorean, which can be attributed to a little bad luck with fire.  For those curious to see John’s “Anything Goes” panel, fan videos from the panel may be seen at here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4.

In addition, fan videos of the ARROW panel at Comic-Con may be seen here, here and here.

Then just as fun are the comments by ARROW co-stars Stephen Amell about John’s possible return to ARROW, and Emily Bett Rickards and Colton Haynes comments about John surprising them in a funny way while filming a scene last season on ARROW:

From the blatant hints during the ARROW panel and by the inadvertently slip made by Stephen Amell, it sure sounds like John Barrowman may be making a return to ARROW in the second season, although it may be for flashbacks since it appears that Malcolm Merlyn was killed off in the Season 1 finale.

Also, in case you missed it, here’s the link to the prior interview with John about his work on ARROW:  “ARROW Star John Barrowman Dishes on The Dark Archer, DOCTOR WHO, TORCHWOOD and SCANDAL!”

Whether it is John’s passion for his characters or his desire to keep his fans entertained, John’s wide variety of entertainment work has been a constant source of delight over the years.  It has been a privilege to follow his remarkable journey and we all look forward to seeing what is next for him.  If given the chance, be sure to catch John at one of his many convention appearances or on his tours, because there is nothing better than seeing him perform live.  In addition, John’s new series “Sing Your Face Off” debuts this Fall on ABC; and with a little luck, we just may catch him in a scene or two this next season of ARROW on the CW.

John’s life motto is “anything goes,” and that is exactly what he strives for in his fantastically entertaining life.  Anything and everything is possible, and we are happy to share in that journey with him.
