Are you tired of television shows dragging their feet when it comes to taking their character’s relationships to the next level? If so, have we got a television show for you! In only its second season, SUBURGATORY has not only defied the odds by pairing up major couples like George (Jeremy Sisto) and Dallas (Cheryl Hines), but has revealed plans to introduce Tessa’s mystery mom as well! But just what do the actors of the show think of the accelerated pace creator Emily Kapnek has implemented this season? We recently caught up with one such star, Jane Levy to talk about Tessa, her constantly colorful on-screen personal life and how life has changed since becoming the star of her very own hit ABC series. See for yourself, after the jump.
Jane Levy: It’s sort of been obvious to everybody, most viewers and all of [the fictional town of] Chatswin that there is something going on between them, so Tessa’s cool with it. Towards the end of last season, Tessa and Dallas got pretty close. In fact, besides Lisa, Dallas is probably Tessa’s closest friend in Chatswin so I don’t think she could ask for anyone better for her dad to start dating.
I think Tessa’s affection for Ryan sort of goes hand in hand with her growing affection for Chatswin and I welcome it. Yes, I was surprised when I heard that Tessa is going to start dating Ryan, you sort of wonder how that is going to really work, but the writers have done a really clever job of writing it and I think the relationship is really sweet.
Tessa’s mom [Played by Malin Akerman] is coming on the show for two, maybe three episodes. It’s emotional, but not break-down-and-cry emotional. It’s a huge thing to meet your mother and Tessa is really mostly confused and trying to place her emotions because they’re all over the map.
That’s one of my favorite parts about being on the show is that I get to do something different every week. I mean this season not only does Tessa’s mom comes back into the picture, but there’s also an episode where I get my wisdom teeth out and the drugs have my character convinced that aliens are coming to steal her teeth. It’s pretty outrageous to be able to do that, it’s a great job.
Yeah it is a really big deal. Sometimes, often times, I have to remind myself of that because it just is part of my life now. Like most people it’s a job and I wake up everyday and go to work. But it is a big deal and I’m really happy to be a part of it. With the exception of the occasional fan coming up to me on the street to tell me they really enjoy the show, which is so nice, my personal life hasn’t really changed that much. I can buy myself nicer things! And career wise, it sort of has opened some doors where people talk to me that wouldn’t have talked to me before. Maybe I’m being silly, but I feel like it changed my life just as much as it would have as anyone who got a new job, moved to a new city and done something they had never done before!
