10:03PM: The always classy Nina Dobrev answers a few questions backstage:
From DEGRASSI to THE VAMPIRE DIARIES how has life changed from one show to another?
Nina Dobrev: I guess that’s a good way to put it. DEGRASSI was high school and now I’m going to college, and it’s another step and there’s going to be more steps and i’ll keep going as I grow and keep getting different roles.
Have you had the chance to reconnect with many of your former DEGRASSI castmates at tonight’s MMVA’s?
Yeah, actually everyone’s here. I’ve been texting with everyone — Paula [Brancati], Charlotte [Arnold], Adamo [Ruggiero] — to find out who is going to be where!
As someone who has achieved an enormous amount of success at such a young age, do you have any advice for aspiring actors?
The only advice I can give is what I did because that’s what I know what worked me. Basically just auditioning and continuing with your craft. I went to a performing arts high school where I was brought up on stage, dancing, being expressive, taking classes. Get an agent and don’t give up. For every audition that you do get, there are 100 that you don’t.
Now that you’ve had success with an American series do you ever see yourself coming back to Canada to shoot a project?
I did a small part in Chloe, which Atom Egoyan directed. Sometimes it’s
about scheduling. I almost did a small Canadian Indie film, but the break between seasons 1 and 2 of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES was only a month, and the dates didn’t work out.
Who are you most excited to meet tonight?
There’s a lot of people, but I’m most excited to see Drake again. And it’s odd for me to call him Drake, because I know him as Aubrey!
Have you had the chance to talk to Kevin Williamson [THE VAMPIRE DIARIES EP] about the new season and is there anything you can tease?
To be honest, they don’t tell us anything and I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen. Obviously Katherine is back and I get to play Katherine and get to kill people so I assume there will be more bloodsucking and death. The whole first season they teased that Katherine was this horrible person and all these bad things would happen because she was there in spirit. Now that she’s there in person, I can only imagine what’s going to happen.
10:21PM: 90210 star Shenae Grimes teases how Annie is going to deal with her fictional father Harry’s exit, “I’m sure it will affect her a lot. I think it’s going to be a big storyline for Annie and Dixon [Tristan Wilds] next season. The Wilsons were a very happy and close knit family from Kansas City and divorce never factored into their lives so I’m sure they’re not going to take it too well. We’ll be doing some method acting because we’re all pretty heartbroken that Rob [Estes] is leaving the show.
10:30PM: From the department of stuff we don’t really care about comes Whitney Port’s take on whether or not Heidi and Spencer’s “marriage” is really “in trouble,”Honestly, I swear to God on my mom’s life I have no idea and cannot even begin to tell you. Obviously everyone thinks they’re lying because they’ve lied about everything else but I really don’t know.”
10:45PM: One of the guys from the band Hedley (Which according to @mikesbloggity is the Ke$ha of Canadian bands) would love to guest star as Zombie on AMC’s upcoming WALKING DEAD series.
10:55PM: Charlotte Arnold takes offence to a reporter calling DEGRASSI a springboard for actors making it huge in this business, “First off all I think it’s a little unfair to call DEGRASSI a springboard because I like working there now and if this was the last thing I did I’d be happy.” That said, when pressed by your very own TV Addict which CW show, if given the opportunity, she’d like to guest on she was quick to say, “Definitely on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES with Nina Dobrev.”
11:10PM: Miley Cyrus defends her risqué MMVA opening outfit (pictures above, courtesy of hollywoodlife.com)that for lack of a better word, was less “hannah” and more “hooker,” “i think I’m just having fun and I’m doing what I love which is performing in the way in which I feel most comfortable. It’s me saying that I don’t take myself too seriously. We’re out there dressing up having fun. It’ s a bunch of girls and guys living their dream and playing dress up and that’s what I was doing. I don’t walk around in a bikini and bright pink lipstick all the time. It’s just about who you are when you’re performing and what goes right for that song.”
11:30PM: When asked to rank his now-iconic hairstyle with “the Rachel” from FRIENDS, Justin Bieber reveals, “I could! I grew up watching FRIENDS, my mom loves that show. So yeah, I think so.”
