Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Spoilers From the Set of V
Having worked on both THE SHIELD and CHUCK, newly-installed V executive producer Scott Rosenbaum knows a thing or two about mixing suspense and action. Which is why, when ABC’s re-imagination of the sci-fi classic returns this March 30th after far too long a hiatus, fans should expect the unexpected. But don’t take our word for it, here are five bombshell’s executive producer Steve Pearlman dropped during yesterday’s set visit in beautiful, albeit somewhat rainy Vancouver, British Columbia.
They’re Coming.
And by ‘they’ of course mean special guest stars! Hoping to inject some new energy and a very different dynamic into the show, UK actor Charles Mesure will be joining the cast as Kyle Hobbes, an unlikely ally of the resistance. “He’s recruited by Erica, Ryan and Jack because they realize that if they’re going to take on this war against the V’s, their ragtag group needs some muscle,” explained Pearlman. “His addition as a mercenary really signals to the audience that this is the beginning of chapter two.”
Thomas Calabro Talks MELROSE PLACE 2.0
If MELROSE PLACE has taught us anything over the years, it’s that anything or anyone can be brought back from the dead. Which is probably why actor Thomas Calabro — who has made a career out of playing the deliciously devious Dr. Michael Mancini — was only to happy to take a brief break from twittering and updating his facebook page to talk to us about what brought him back to the series that turned him into a household name and what’s in store for fans during the latter half of the season.
As the only actor who remained with the original series over the course of its entire run, how challenging was it to move on from the character that turned you into a household name?
Thomas Calabro: When MELROSE PLACE became successful I was in my 16th year as an actor. Which is to say that for 15 years, I made a living and was never in the middle of the public eye and was perfectly happy and content. Yes, the show changed my life in certain ways — of course I had more money than I ever dreamed of having and more notoriety where people would recognize me in the street— but for years, even until now, I’m always thinking, “High school? What high school did you got to?” For me it was just another job and another step in my crazy career.

Review: JUSTIFIED
By: Aleks Chan
Timothy Olyphant could melt your television set with his charisma alone. In JUSTIFIED, FX’s smart, brisk, and terrifically acted new drama, he plays U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, one of the smoothest, laconic operators on TV. Sporting a Stetson, cowboy boots, and hip holster, he’s like a character from GUNSMOKE drizzled with a quiet, undeniable machismo. Down to his gait, Olyphant exudes charm in this role, enough to render a scattergun-wielding neo-Nazi a whimpering puppy of a man with the threat of his fast trigger finger. Givens is a man who lives by his own idea of justice and morality: he often gives his targets a time period to turn themselves in before he comes gunning for them. When he fires the first shot (and you’ll learn how fast of a draw he is), he’ll simply state: “It was justified.”
But after shooting a con in the audience of a Miami hotel and creating a massive media headache for his superiors, Givens is banished to his home state of Kentucky, where he comes to find that his childhood friend Boyd Crowder (THE SHIELD’s always excellent Walton Goggins) has become a local terrorist: leading a band of white supremacists, they’re rob banks and blow up churches. There’s a great scene in the pilot where Givens visits Boyd’s victory den (a strange pastiche of Confederate flags, swastikas, and a set of pews) and Boyd explains how the Bible justifies his behavior, thereby presenting a dueling perspective of ethics – just how different are Ray and Boyd when it comes to rationalizing their law-skirting ways?
