So, NBC threw out some shockers (at least FNL wasn’t cancelled. Sure, Friday at 10 is almost the kiss of death, but it’s fabulous, so yay!). With ABC set to change up their schedule and send some surprises our way, let’s see what’s coming for CBS, The CW, and FOX in the coming days!
CBS:
What do we not need to worry about?
Big Brother, Survivor – CBS isn’t big on the early renewals.
What shows are looking good for renewal, but haven’t gotten there yet?
48 Hours, 60 Minutes, Cold Case, Criminal Minds, CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Ghost Whisperer, NCIS (especially now that Bellisario stepped down), Numb3rs, Rules of Engagement (who would have thought?), Shark, Two and a Half Men (really?), Without a Trace
What shows are riding that bubble?
The Amazing Race (not so much because ratings are down, but because they might not have a spot for it on the schedule right away), The Class (I would be sad to see it go…it got better at the end), How I Met Your Mother (seriously? I can’t imagine this being gone already), Jericho (I’ll be super upset if this is gone!!!), The New Adventures of Old Christine (I’m thinking it’s between HIMYM and Christine for the comedy spot…hopefully HIMYM stays), The Unit (no bad buzz here, but it’s probably the least “on the radar” procedural.
What should we prepare to say goodbye to, officially?
Armed and Famous, Close to Home (they never should have killed off Christian Kane’s character), Gameshow Marathon, Rock Star (if you hear nothing about it, chances are they aren’t working on it)
What shows did they already can?
3 Lbs (which is a shame, because I like Stanley Tucci), The Kind of Queens, Smith, Waterfront (I gotta be honest, I don’t remember this show even starting….)
What is still to come?
Creature Comforts and Pirate Master look to be interesting shows – we’ll see how they do.
Bottom line?
CBS has too many hits to know what to do with. To even consider getting rid of HIMYM or Jericho, it’s pure insanity. The latest talks point to neither of them getting the boot, but the fact that they aren’t incredibly safe just shows that CBS is doing really well and almost doesn’t know where to go from here.
FOX:
What do we not need to worry about?
American Dad, American Idol, Bones (yay!), Family Guy, House, Prison Break, The Simpsons
What shows are looking good for renewal, but haven’t gotten there yet?
24, America’s Most Wanted, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, Cops, Nanny 911, Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy
What shows are riding that bubble?
King of the Hill (I really like this show…I hope it’s saved!), ‘Til Death (I know, my jaw is on the floor at the prospect, but they think it’s a good bet with the new Patty Heaton / Kelsey Grammer show).
What should we prepare to say goodbye to, officially?
Standoff (unless the summer ratings sky rocket), The War At Home (it’s like birds are singing and bells are ringing and people dancing inside my head with excitement), The Winner (this wasn’t too bad; the ratings just haven’t really supported it), Drive (no official word on cancellation but a 2 hour block on the least watched day of TV – July 4th – pretty much spells cancellation)
What shows did they already can?
Happy Hour, Justice, The O.C., The Rich List, Vanished, Wedding Bells
What is still to come?
We’ve got Hell’s Kitchen, The Loop, One the Lot, and So You Think You Can Dance coming up this summer!
Bottom line?
FOX doesn’t have much wiggle room. They are pretty much all set. Sure, there a few new shows that they’ve invested in, but nothing too shocking should happen, come
Thursday.
The CW:
What do we not need to worry about?
Everybody Hates Chris, Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll.
What shows are looking good for renewal, but haven’t gotten there yet?
America’s Next Top Model, Beauty and the Geek, The Game, Girlfriends, Smallville, Supernatural (they’re likely interested in keeping their relatively strong Thursday night lineup), WWE Smackdown
What shows are riding that bubble?
All of Us (if they cut a comedy, it’s likely this will be it), Veronica Mars (keep everything crossed that this makes it to see season 4), One Tree Hill
What should we prepare to say goodbye to, officially?
Nothing really.
What shows did they already can?
7th Heaven (and the world rejoiced), Gilmore Girls, Reba, Runaway
What is still to come?
We’ve got Hidden Palms, which looks like it could be a good guilty pleasure.
Bottom line?
The CW did not have a very good first year on the air. The shows it kept didn’t wow as much as they should have. 50% of their new shows disappeared before mid season. With the Gossip Girl pilot getting serious buzz, and the other new shows looking promising, The CW has the chance to shake things up the most.
What do you think? Are you excited for Wednesday and Thursday and the announcements still to come?
That’s it for this week. Next week, we begin a season ending wrap up – what was the best, what was the worst, what are we glad is over, what are we going to miss? Send me some feedback – what was your favorite, what was your least favorite? How do you feel that the season went? mytakeontv@thetvaddict.com
