FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: The Best Show on TV

March 22, 2007 By theTVaddict 8 Comments

It occurred to me around 9PM last night, having just finished yet another brilliant episode of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. I’m in love with this show, and short of moving to Dillon Texas, I’m not quite sure how I’m going to cope when the first season wraps up in a mere three weeks.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS isn’t just another high school drama littered with sex, drugs and little consequence. It’s an emotional roller-coaster paying loyal viewers off with moment after moment of remarkable television. Here are a few of the highlights from last night’s episode.

Jason Street finally accepting his disability, returning to Dillon and re-connecting with his true family, his teammates — Best moment of the night (see video above), Jason realizing that perhaps there’s life left in himself, and Dillon Texas. Could coaching (or teaching) be in his future?

Ms. Collette (or as I like to call her, the anti-Lorelai Gilmore) coming to her senses and letting Tyra know that she’ll actually support her dreams of being the first Collette woman to attend college — Remarkable. It’s about time Mommy Collette realized that she’s not Tyra’s sister, but rather her mother.

Coach Taylor and Julie having another beautiful (and realistic) father daughter moment in the car prior to the father/daughter dance (only in Dillon folks!). Loved every moment of it. Is the Taylor family not the most honest and realistic family television has seen in years?

Finally, Tim Riggins. Why couldn’t I have a friend like that when I was in fourth grade? I’d just bring him to school, and he’d be my very own real life ‘Terminator’. Scaring anyone who dared to look at me the wrong way in the playground. That said, Tim Riggins is definitely starting a relationship that will undoubtedly end poorly, so I’m just going to enjoy the good times while they last.

When all is said and done, there’s no adjective to properly describe how great last night’s episode was. Each scene improved upon the previous one, each character evolved as the episode wore on. Simply put, last night FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS officially became the best show on television.
