The Sunday NYTimes has a really interesting article on the effect the internet has on TV. Author Maria Aspan interviews the creators of RESCUE ME (Peter Tolan), BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (Ronald D. Moore) and VERONICA MARS (Rob Thomas), discussing how seriously they take their rabid internet fans, or as Rob Thomas puts it, “a really big focus group.” MARS creator Rob Thomas even goes as far to say that his awareness of the fans’ reaction to Tessa Thompson’s character lead him to overcompensate and make her more likeable. Rob says:
“I feel like I sold out a little, She became a little saintly by the end. If I had to do it over again, I’d leave her a little more complicated.”
