Can 24 Be Redeemed with TV Movie?

November 21st, 2008

24 redemption
By Melissa Girimonte

24 has quite a bit to atone for. It’s been 18 months since the end of its lackluster sixth season. Filming Season seven hit roadblock after roadblock, from scrapped storylines, to California wildfires, to the infamous WGA strike. Will fans welcome back the action series, and their hero, Jack Bauer? If the upcoming two-hour TV movie is any indication of what’s in store. Absolutely.

24: REDEMPTION sets the ball in motion for its long awaited seventh season premiere by filling in the gaps following Jack’s triumphant walk off into the sunset at the end of season six. A female president is about to be sworn in, war is about to break out in the fictional African country of Sangala and Jack Bauer is desperately trying to escape his past.

Breaking: ABC Cancels PUSHING DAISIES, ELI STONE and DIRTY SEXY MONEY

November 20th, 2008

With apologies in advance for our spectacularly unimaginative acronym, theTVaddict.com interrupts what should have been a highly enjoyable night of television (or to be more specific: UGLY BETTY, THE OFFICE, 30 ROCK, GREY’S ANATOMY, SUPERNATURAL, SMALLVILLE and LIFE ON MARS) to bring you some Awfully Bad Cancellation News.

ABC has officially pulled the plug on PUSHING DAISIES, ELI STONE and DIRTY SEXY MONEY.

And while the Alphabet Network has yet to ‘officially’ cancel the shows — most likely to avoid the deluge of lipstick that NBC is currently accumulating as a result of their shoddy treatment of LIPSTICK JUNGLE. Entertainment Weekly, E! Online and The Hollywood Reporter have all gone ahead, and ‘exclusively’ reported that all three shows will not be shooting any episodes past their initial 13 episode order.

Dispatches From The Couch: PROJECT RUNWAY

November 20th, 2008

There’s much talk about PROJECT RUNWAY not airing a new season for a while thanks to the 5,432 lawsuits circling the show right now, and I have to say… that ain’t necessarily a bad thing.

Let’s face it, when it comes to television shows — like everything else — absence can truly make the heart grow fonder. With WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE, ABC learned the hard way how easy it is to take a show from heavenly hit to premature burial by proving that there is, in fact, such a thing as too much of a good thing. And while the producers of RUNWAY haven’t yet run the premise into the ground, this past season was, at best, lackluster. Maybe taking a year off wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.

One of the things that has always made SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE such a pleasure is that it only rolls around once a year, making it a summer treat we truly look forward to. The same has been true of BIG BROTHER (with the exception of this past year, when two cycles ran practically back-to-back due to the writers strike).

So yes, saying a temporary “auf Wiedersehen” to Heidi and company isn’t necessarly a bad thing. For now, we’ll file PROJECT RUNWAY under “gone, but not forgotten,” and look forward to welcoming it back… eventually.

The OTHER New President: Spotlight On 24’s Cherry Jones

November 20th, 2008

The TV Addict on the set of 24 with Cherry Jones, August 2008

What exactly does one do for an encore after creating the Tony award winning role of Sister Aloysius in Broadway’s critically acclaimed stage production of DOUBT?

If you’re actress Cherry Jones, you decide to trade in the job security that comes with 708 performances in a critically acclaimed play and parlay it into a higher profile, yet far less secure faux political gig. Hillary Clinton may have failed to become the first female president in United States history, but the same can’t be said of Jones, who steps into the oval office as president-elect Allison Taylor on 24 this Sunday on FOX (Global TV in Canada).

In the grand tradition of 24, voters… er, viewers will have about five minutes to reflect on the fact that 24 gave us an African-American president (Dennis Haysbert’s David Palmer) several years before Barack Obama took office and what legacy Jones’ Taylor will have on the pop culture/political landscape before all hell breaks loose.

And while chaos may be the last thing an actual president wants, Jones is relishing every minute of the bedlam rocking her administration.

The LOST Season 5 Poster: What Does it Mean?

November 19th, 2008

lost poster

Courtesy of AICN comes a first look at ABC’s Official LOST Season 5 Poster. Also courtesy of AICN comes another sleepless night, as this TV Addict feverishly attempts to decipher all the clues that LOSTerminds Damon Lindeloff and Carlton Cuse have planted within the poster. Here’s a few questions we’ve come up with thus far.

(1) Why are Kate and Sawyer peering directly into each-other’s eyes? (2) Why do Jack (Clean shaven no less!) and Kate virtually mirror Sawyer and Juliet in terms of positioning? (3) Where are Jin and Claire? (4) Where’s Locke’s coffin! (5) And finally, since when do Faraday, Miles, Charloette and Desmond warrant poster status?

Take a closer look for yourself by clicking here and feel free to point out what we’ve missed in the comments below.

First Look: Dawson Returns to the Creek

November 19th, 2008

While this TV Addict is pretty confident the CW isn’t about to pitch it this way, here goes nothing… On Monday’s brand new episode of ONE TREE HILL, find out if the artist formerly known as Dawson Leery (special guest star James Van Der Beek) is still interested in turning Lucas’ book into a movie after this week’s ridiculous Chad Michael Murray penned episode!
