First Look: The Moment UGLY BETTY Fans Have Waited For!

March 10th, 2010

ugly betty million dollar bra

On March 24 the moment UGLY BETTY fans have waited for long years for will finally arrive. Betty is getting her braces off! But — adhering to the show’s telenovela roots — not before she spins off into a dream sequence where an angelic Dr. Frankel (played by Kathy Najimy) shows her how different her life might have been had she never worn braces to begin with. Think of it as Betty’s very own version of LOST’s flash-sideways: Where Hilda is homely, Ignacio is a compulsive gambler, Marc is a doting dad, Amanda is married to Daniel and glam Betty isn’t so much ugly, as, well mean, and did we mention… in cahoots to bring down Mode with [pause for dramatic affect] none other than Wilhemnia Slater! More first look photos of which can be found after the jump.

… But on the plus side, Michael Ausiello is reporting that Becki Newton, also known as one half of television’s most dynamic of dynamic duos has landed the starring role in NBC’s hour-long romantic comedy pilot LOVE BITES.

According to the scooptacular one himself, “the potential series, exec produced by SEX AND THE CITY’s Cindy Chupack, will follow three loosely connected stories of love, dating, and marriage each week. Newton will play Annie, an infectiously bubbly hopeless romantic who also happens to be a virgin.”

Congratulations Becki! R.I.P. BETTY.

Now that the cancelation of UGLY BETTY has sunk in, stars Michael Urie and Becki Newton have some big, potentially career-defining decisions to make.

According to hollywood reporter Nellie Andreeva — BETTY co-star Becki Newton, being a beautiful 30-year-old actress with impeccable comic timing is a hot commodity in Hollywood — and as such, like Urie, is already being inundated with job offers.

Which is why, before Newton jumps on board the UNTITLED new comedy project from the producers of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER*, or Urie signs on to STRANGE BREW from WILL & GRACE creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick*, this TV Addict wanted to take a moment to “WOW” them with an offer of our very own.

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Positives That Might Come Out of UGLY BETTY’s Cancellation

January 27th, 2010

Thanks to fourth season creative resurgence, UGLY BETTY, unlike HEROES, PRISON BREAK and/or NIP/TUCK will go out on top. Particularly since…

…ABC had the courtesy to inform BETTY’s producers early enough to ensure they’ll have the time necessary to craft a satisfying conclusion to the series. Said both the network and producers in a statement released earlier today, “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this UGLY BETTY’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”

Creator Silvio Horta will soon have the free time necessary to develop the Marc (Michael Urie) and Amanda (Becki Newton) spin-off fans have been clamouring for. Said Horta in a recent interview with theTVaddict.com, “Obviously I think Michael [Urie] and Becki [Newton] are amazing but my focus right now is keeping this show going and getting it to a fifth season. That said, anything is possible and of course, out of all the character on the show that have spin-off potential, Marc and Amanda are the most natural choices. They’re terrific and the amazing chemistry they’ve got is so rare.”

Stars Ana Ortiz and Tony Plano on Why You Should Tune Into UGLY BETTY Tonight!

January 20th, 2010

Betty’s Back Baby!

That in a nutshell is the message UGLY BETTY stars Ana Ortiz (Hilda) and Tony Plano (Ignacio) really wanted to convey during a recent one-on-one with theTVaddict.com.

“I think we really found our groove this season,” says Ana Ortiz. “The writers have stopped trying to please everybody and really got back on track with why fans fell in love with the show in the first place.”

In other-words, for those of you who have jumped off the BETTY bandwagon this season — which judging from the ratings is virtually everybody who is reading this — now’s the time to hop back on. Particularly since the show’s fourth year is shaping up to be its strongest season to date, with the writers finally striking that ideal balance between Betty’s home, work and always complicated romantic life.

A Candid Conversation with UGLY BETTY Showrunner Silvio Horta

January 6th, 2010

ugly_betty_cast

Things are looking up for our girl Betty. After surviving the only fate worse than a Lindsay Lohan guest appearance — also known as a Friday night time slot — UGLY BETTY is ringing in 2010 on Wednesday nights at 10PM. And here to talk about the move, along with what fans can expect from the rest of the season, the odds are on our dream Marc and Amanda spin-off become a reality, Justin, the musical episode and much much more is executive producer Silvio Horta.

UGLY BETTY really seems to have been firing on all cylinders this season with the writers finding the ideal balance between Betty at work and Betty at Mode. Has it been disheartening to get those ratings reports on Saturday morning only to discover that relatively speaking, nobody’s watching?
Silvio Horta: It is disheartening and we wish more people were watching as we’ve felt that everything has been gelling this season and we’ve been really doing great work. Would it be great to have three times as many viewers and not to have been on Friday night? Absolutely! But we’re proud of what we get to do and happy with the work and at the end of the day that’s ultimately what you’ve got to be happy with because everything else is out of your control.

Can you pinpoint anything specific that has attributed to the creative resurgence of the show?
I’m not sure I can. I will say that in season’s past we may have been guilty of introducing a storyline or character without really have an end game. While this season, we’ve really approached it like, “Let’s just go for it!” No longer are we writing these huge story arcs that go on for an entire season. This season we’re doing story-lines that audiences can easily follow. If it works, great. If it doesn’t, don’t worry, there will be something new in a couple of episodes.

First Look: An UGLY BETTY Shocker!

December 18th, 2009

ugly_betty

Why does UGLY BETTY’s Amanda (Becki Newton) look as though she has just seen a ghost? Well, truthfully, we’re not entirely sure. But if we were to hazard a guess, it might have something to do with Amanda discovering…

(a) When BETTY returns in the new year, it will do so on an entirely new night (Wednesdays at 10PM).
(b) The January 6th episode entitled “The Passion of the Betty” not only includes a cameo by Betty’s orthodontist Dr. Farkas (Played by MODERN FAMILY’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson), but a guest appearance by Broadway legend Christine Ebersole who shocks everybody with a surprise gallery showing of Matt’s artwork.
(c) The subject matter of Matt’s gallery show, you’ll see what we mean after the jump.
(d) That Troy, after becoming smitten with Marc in Bermuda (aka, his “first”), decided to follow him back to New York. Oh, and we probably should mention that Troy is played by none other than Becki Newton’s real-life brother Matt Newton! See for yourself, after the jump.
