Jenny’s TV Guide: Friday August 22

Friday marks the series premiere of Discovery Project Earth on the Discovery Channel at 9/8c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 10/9c. You’ve heard the dire warning; you’ve seen the detailed PowerPoint; you’ve even bought that light bulb with the swirls, but how about some real action? Now the world’s leading scientists meet three uncompromising visionaries to put the most ambitious geo-engineering ideas to the test, tackling global climate change.

It’s also the series premiere of Who Are You Wearing on TLC at 10/9c. Red carpet events are known for their glamour, their celebrities, and - most of all - their fashion. Pages of magazines and hours of television are devoted to what famous people are wearing and the question on everyone’s lips always is, “who are you wearing?” TLC gets ready to sew up a brand new meaning to that question when it gives everyday people the opportunity of a lifetime: to design for and dress a celebrity for a red carpet event.

Jenny’s TV Guide: Thursday August 21

Thursday brings with it a ridiculous amount of series premieres. First up is Destroyed in Seconds on the Discovery Channel at 9/8c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 9:30/8:30c.

Next is the series premiere of Glam God with Vivica A. Fox on VH1 at 10/9c. It searches for the next great celebrity stylist who has what it takes to become the stylist to the stars through their ability to create a chic masterpiece using the three key elements of fashion — hair, make-up and wardrobe. Each week the “stylista” contestants will be asked to compete in various challenges that will test their knowledge of fashion and style trends as they create the perfect look from head to toe. Those that fall short of creating that perfect look will have their style license revoked and will be sent packing. The one stylist that manages to rise above the rest will be given the ultimate reward — the chance to launch a career by styling an A-list celebrity and being awarded $100,000.

Another series premiere is Jacked: Auto Theft Task Force on A&E at 10/9c. A&E takes viewers inside the real-life dramatic pursuits of a specialized elite squad of police officers who set out each night under the cloak of darkness to put car thieves behind bars.

Yet ANOTHER series premiere is Tabatha’s Salon Takeover on Bravo at 10/9c. The straight-talking, perfectly coifed Tabatha Coffey lends her sound advice and styling expertise to help desperate salon owners turn their struggling businesses around.

Jenny’s TV Guide: Wednesday August 20

Wednesday marks the season finale of Ghost Hunters International on SciFi at 9/8c and Family Foreman on TV Land at 10/9c.

Tonight’s Olympic coverage includes: Coverage of the Champions Gala: Watch the stars of the Beijing gymnastics competition perform exhibition routines. Also, track and field finals. The U.S. swept the men’s 200m medals four years ago, led by Shawn Crawford, who’s back at the fore of another strong American group. But the favorite may be Jamaican sensation Usain “Lightning” Bolt. Also, the women’s 400m hurdles. BMX racing is one of the new events at the Olympics - an all-out, full-contact race through a twisting course with plenty of jumps. Though the event is unpredictable in nature, the American men have unmatched depth, featuring 2007 world champion Kyle Bennett. On the women’s side, Jill Kintner was the top American finisher at the 2007 World Championships. Defending Olympic beach volleyball champions Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh could confirm their status as “Queens of the Sand” in the women’s gold medal final (LIVE ET/CT). Their top competition is expected to come from fellow Americans, Brazil and host country China.

Jenny’s TV Guide: Tuesday August 19

Tuesday marks the season finale of Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood on Oxygen at 10/9c.

Tonight’s Olympic coverage includes: Coverage of men’s BMX cycling. New to the Olympic program, the unpredictable racing event features steeply banked turns, big jumps and huge crashes designed for top-level riders. In gymnastics, it’s the final night of individual event competition (men’s parallel and high bars; women’s balance beam). Track and field gold medal races are held in the women’s 400m, 100m hurdles, and men’s 1500m. In the latter, 2007 world champion Bernard Lagat - a U.S. citizen of Kenyan descent - has a chance to end an Olympic medal drought for his adopted country that dates back to 1968. In diving, historically dominant China is favored for gold in men’s 3m springboard final.

Jenny’s TV Guide: Monday August 18

Monday marks the series premiere of Into the Unknown with Josh Bernstein on the Discovery Channel at 10/9c. It’s a thrill ride filled with adventure and mystery, ancient riddles and modern day issues as international explorer Josh Bernstein journeys on an epic quest. Tonight he searches for Noah’s Ark.

Tonight is also the season premiere of The Hills on MTV at 10/9c. Following that is the series premiere of Busted on MTV at 10:30/9:30c. In this action-packed, high stakes, 1/2 hour reality series, MTV will show you what happens when kids take things too far and end up breaking the law. Taking it one step further, viewers will also hear why these rebels thought they could get away with committing these crimes, the cops perspectives and the serious consequences they will have to face now that they are busted!

Finally, tonight’s Olympic coverage includes: Gymnastics coverage includes the women’s trampoline final and night two of individual event competition (men’s rings and vault; women’s uneven bars). On the uneven bars, Moscow-born, Texas-raised gymnast Nastia Liukin is a three-time world championship medalist. Track and field action features men’s 400m hurdles, long jump and women’s pole vaulting. The semifinal-round of the women’s beach volleyball tournament could include Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, who have claimed three straight world titles and the 2004 Olympic crown. Likely challengers are China and traditional beach powerhouse Brazil (LIVE ET/CT). Also: Gymnastics, trampoline and track and field finals.

Jenny’s TV Guide: Sunday August 17

Sunday marks the series premiere of Skins on BBC America at 9/8c. Teenagers grab life by the balls in BBC AMERICA’s hot new comedy drama, Skins. Starring Nicholas Hoult (ABOUT A BOY, THE WEATHER MAN), and with a team of writers averaging the age of 22, the award-winning show is a coming of age story for 2008. A potent mix of humorous, heartbreaking and shocking stories unfolds as the group tackles the trials of adolescence while pushing boundaries and managing their parents in ways only teenagers can.

It’s also the season finales of In Plain Sight on USA and The Two Coreys on A&E, both at 10/9c.

Tonight’s Olympic coverage on NBC starts at 7/6c. The first night of gymnastics individual event finals, including men’s floor and pommel horse; the women perform floor and vault routines. Also, track and field finals, including a U.S.-Jamaica dominated women’s 100m, and the women’s 3m springboard diving final.

Jenny’s TV Guide: Friday August 15

Friday marks the series premiere of Outsider’s Inn on CMT at 8/7c. When Maureen McCormick, Bobby Brown and Carnie Wilson leave their Hollywood homes behind and head south, it’s Newhart meets The Simple Life. With eight half-hour episodes, this unscripted comedy documents the trials and tribulations that ensue when McCormick makes the unlikely decision to run a bed and breakfast in rural East Tennessee and enlists the help of her Gone Country friends, Brown and Wilson.

It’s also the season finale of Ashley Paige: Bikini or Bust on TLC, starting with a new episode at 10/9c, followed by the finale at 10:30/9:30c, and the season premiere of Gone Country on CMT at 8/7c.

As for the Olympics, if all proceeds according to plan, American superstar Michael Phelps may have Olympic history — a record-tying seventh gold at one Olympics — within reach when he swims the 100m fly against rival countryman and world record-holder Ian Crocker. Other swim finals: the men’s 50m free, women’s 200m back and 800m free. Also, beach volleyball, a U.S. men’s volleyball match, and, from track and field, the men’s shot put final and qualifying in the men’s 100m.

Jenny’s TV Guide: Thursday August 14

Thursday marks the season finale of Dragons’ Den on BBC America at 9/8c and Kathy Griffin: My Life On the D-List on Bravo at 10/9c.

Tonight’s Olympic coverage features the swimming gold-medal finals including Michael Phelps (200m IM) and Aaron Peirsol (200m back). Also, in 1984, 16-year-old gymnast Mary Lou Retton won gold in the women’s individual all-around competition. In 2004, 16-year-old Carley Patterson did it. Now, at the Beijing Games, two more U.S. teens each have a chance to win what is perhaps the most illustrious event of the Olympics. Sixteen-year-old Iowa native Shawn Johnson is the reigning world champion and Nastia Liukin, an 18-year-old Russian-born Texan, is a nine-time world medalist.

Jenny’s TV Guide: Wednesday August 13

Wednesday marks the season premiere of Making the Band 4 on MTV at 9/8c.

Tonight’s Olympic coverage features the men’s springboard diving final and the men’s 200m breaststroke final that features gold medal favorite Kosuke Kitajima of Japan and American medal contender Eric Shanteau, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer prior to the Beijing Games. Also, races for gold in the women’s 200m fly and men’s 100m free. In late-night coverage (starting at 11/10c), the Americans, Natalie Coughlin and Katie Hoff, who set the world record in the women’s 4×200m free relay at the 2007 World Championships will swim for Olympic gold in the event. In gymnastics, the men’s individual all-around title is decided. China’s Yang Wei, the two-time world champion, is favored - especially after 2004 gold medalist Paul Hamm of the U.S. withdrew because of injury.
