Most Welcome EX of the Week
Here’s a formula even ex-Betty boy-toy Henry Grubstick can figure out. UGLY BETTY – Henry Grubstick + New York City = More Mode, more Marc, more Amanda and most importantly, more fun! Welcome back Betty.

Least Welcome EX of the Week
Elizabeth Reeser’s THE EX LIST attracted less viewers than MOONLIGHT. That sound you just heard, eight million MOONLIGHT fans muttering “I told you so.”

Career Advice of the Week
After sitting through Greg Kinnear’s FLASH OF GENIUS over the weekend, this TV Addict can’t help but wonder… How many non-descript supporting wives and girlfriends is ex-GILMORE GIRL Lauren Graham going to play until she comes to grips with the fact that her star shines brightest on the small screen.

Random Musings: TERMINATOR, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER & THE BIG BANG THEORY

September 30th, 2008

Just as God no doubt intended, this TV Addict spent his Rosh Hashanah afternoon off by enjoying a mini marathon of Monday night television. With, in the spirit of the holiday, a side of Apples and Honey.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
Even a song courtesy of Dr. Horrible himself, Neil Patrick Harris wasn’t enough to save last night’s far from stellar installment of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER. Not only did Marshall’s quest for the perfect burger hit a little too close to home, with this TV Addict’s all-time favorite Burger joint located thousands of miles across the country [see: Splitz in Whistler, BC]. I couldn’t help but find Barney’s shameless love affair with his company’s new client, the fictional Goliath National Bank somewhat depressing considering the economic crisis millions of Americans currently finding themselves in.

TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES
With SyFy Portal reporting that “FOX could pull the plug on production of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES as early as this week” thanks to the show’s disappointing ratings, this TV Addict must ask another slightly awkward yet painfully obvious question. Where exactly are the Browncoats in support of Summer Glau? Does the Joss Whedon fandom not extend outside the boundaries of the Whedonverse?

Here’s hoping that is not the case. Because not only did Glau deliver a phenomenal performance in last night’s Cameron-centric installment of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES. She dropped one helluva bombshell by revealing that the Cameron we’ve grown to know and love might not exactly be the good-intentioned protector of John Connor we all thought she was. And good or evil, this TV Addict would very much like to get to the bottom of this. Which means it’s time to step it up and show your support for the artist formerly known as River Tam. Got that Browncoats?

Spotlight on TERMINATOR Star Levin Rambin

September 29th, 2008

levin rambin terminator the sarah connor chronicles

Even though Levin Rambin can currently be seen playing John Connor’s new squeeze Riley on the second season of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CHRONICLES, fans will most likely recognize her first as Lily Montgomery, the autistic daughter of Jackson Montgomery on ALL MY CHILDREN.

On starting out in soaps: “After four years on ALL MY CHILDREN I knew I didn’t want to stay any longer. And getting this job was a really good way to get me out to Los Angeles.”

The perils of Los Angeles: On paper, a beautiful and young actress like Levin Rambin may seem like the ideal candidate to fall into the “Young Hollywood” trap, but don’t tell her that. “I have to be in control of things at all time. I can’t even smoke pot. I’m not as badass as those kind of people and I definitely don’t see myself going down that path.”

What’s the deal? [Source]

Good News: According to Newsweek, the TV Addict is not the only guy who watches GOSSIP GIRL. Bad News: Still no confirmation as to whether I’m the only guy excited for PRIVILEGED. [Source]

You Be the Critic: TERMINATOR, GOSSIP GIRL & ONE TREE HILL

September 9th, 2008

And the say television doesn’t teach us anything. Thanks to the gorgeous glowing Panasonic 42″ flat-screen in my living room, this TV Addict learned two important things last night. First off, all women named Catherine are apparently evil. And secondly, there are two types of girl-fights, good ones and bad ones.

For an example of good girl-fights, look no further than last night’s fantastic season premiere of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES. Not only was this TV Addict on the edge of his seat as a malfunctioning Cameron [Summer Glau] spent the better part of an hour hunting down the very people she was programmed to protect. Newcomer Catherine Weaver [Shirley Manson] truly made her point [yes, pun intended] by revealing to the both the audience and one incredibly unfortunate employee that she’s actually a T-1001 Liquid Metal Terminator that you don’t want to mess with.

Meanwhile, over to the Upper East Side, the good girl-fight continued when another evil Catherine, this time in the form of Marcus’ mother finally coming face-to-face with a woman far more intimidating than any robot sent from the future — GOSSIP GIRL’s Blair Waldorf. Which naturally begs the question: Who’s scarier: The T-1001 or the Queen B of the Upper East Side?

Exclusive Spoilers: TERMINATOR Stars Thomas Dekker and Summer Glau Talk Judgment Day

September 8th, 2008

Thomas Dekker, The TV Addict and Summer Glau in Los Angeles, August 2008

First the Television Critics Association Press Tour, then Comic Con and now the FOX Fall Press Junket, do you ever tire of talking about the TERMINATOR?
Thomas Dekker: It’s very lucky we’re in love with the show because if we weren’t…
Summer Glau: Sometimes things get blurry. People do tend to ask the same questions and it gets to the point where I almost don’t recognize anything that’s coming out of my mouth.

So you’re pretty much the TV equivalent of Presidential Candidates on the campaign trail. Is this a part of the business you enjoy? Doing the TERMINATOR ’stump speech’.
Thomas: I’ve strangely managed to coast along acting for fifteen years without doing much of this. But if it will help the show be seen then we’re happy to do it.

Well at the very least I’m sure you’ve gotten to visit some cool places promoting the show?
Thomas: Best trip ever [laughs].
Summer: We went to Australia.
Thomas: It was a wild week. We were in Australia just the two of us for a week.
Summer: We had a really good time, that was a crazy week.
Thomas: Yes, drunken beach photographs and all! [Click for some pics]
Summer: Germany
Thomas: We’re very popular in Europe.

Heading into tonight’s season premiere, you’ve [Thomas] made it pretty clear the last time we talked that John Connor is going to finally start to grow up this season. But Summer, we don’t seem to know so much about what’s in store for Cameron this season.
Summer: It’s a big question. The show picks up right after the explosion and things change. Cameron’s going to be a lot more complicated than before and there were clues in season one hinting about the possibility of what her agenda is.
Thomas: Sometimes they [robots] go bad and we don’t know why…

Exclusive Interview: TERMINATOR Star Brian Austin Green

September 5th, 2008

The TV Addict and Brian Austin Green in Los Angeles, August 2008

Admit it. When you first learned that Brian Austin Green was joining the cast of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES your first thought probably wasn’t, “Brilliant casting decision! Nothing says defending the earth from a futuristic robot invasion like David Silver.”

But luckily for the artist formerly known as the Notorious B.A.G, not to mention millions of TERMINATOR fans worldwide, things could not have worked out better. Heck, Josh Friedman probably could not have written a better script comeback story.

Not only did Green’s portrayal of Derek Reese earn him universal raves with Entertainment Weekly calling him, “the best thing on the screen.” It virtually guaranteed that Green won’t have to sell his soul anytime soon by signing on to a future installment of THE SURREAL LIFE, DANCING WITH THE STARS, or God help us all, CELEBRITY APPRENTICE.

That said, even with the success of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, this TV Addict wasn’t about to let Green forget where he came from. As evidence by how I started off our conversation when given the recent opportunity to sit down with him at Hollywood’s Renaissance Hotel in Los Angeles.

The TV Addict: Okay, obviously I have to get this out of the way first. I grew up on 90210 and it’s kind of responsible for where I am today.
Brian Austin Green:
Is it really? [laughs]

No, it’s true, and depending on who you ask, that’s either a really good think or a really bad thing.
I could say the same thing!

Do you ever tire of hearing about it?
No, it’s totally part of life. It’s the reason anybody recognizes my name. Honestly, the only time I tire of it, and I can’t even say ‘tire,’ is when I’m so excited to talk about TERMINATOR. I love doing press for this show because people love it. So it’s a little frustrating when people bring up 90210 because there’s a part of me that loses a bit of the excitement. But other than that, it’s part of my life and I hope the new show does fantastically.

The TV Addict Survives a Face-to-Face with TERMINATOR Star Garret Dillahunt

August 28th, 2008

garret dillahunt cromartie terminator the sarah connor chronicles
Note to TV Addict: Do Not ask Garret Dillahunt questions that might make him angry. Look at the size of those hands!

At first glance, one can’t help but feel slightly intimidated by actor Garret Dillahunt. Not only does he quite literally tower over me, as evidence by the hilarious photo I’ve posted above. The man has made a career out of playing a killer robot sent from the future, an assassin, not to mention Jesus Christ.

But thankfully, Mr. Dillahunt wasn’t anything like the characters he is best known for portraying, as I found out recently when he was kind enough to sit down with me at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel in Los Angeles to talk about what is in store for Cromartie on the upcoming season of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES.

Congratulations on becoming a series regular this year.
I guess they liked what I did last year, which is good.

So what’s in store for Cromartie this season?
They’re giving him a lot more brains. He’s getting a lot more tricky when it comes to catching up with the Connors. We just finished a really fun episode called “The Mouse Trap” and as the name implies, I set a very elaborate trap to catch John and the family. I had a lot of fun doing all the stunts this week. Lots of water work and running.

I imagine playing a virtually indestructible robot brings with it a nice sense of job security as an actor?
Well I played Jesus Christ [in NBC's short-lived BOOK OF DANIEL] which also had pretty good job security, because you can’t kill Jesus. But I don’t know if there is ever job security in what we do. But it’s fun to play something, someone that is so strong. It’s nice to play someone with no hesitations about anything he does.

Fall TV Preview 2008: TERMINATOR THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES

August 25th, 2008

fall TV Preview 2008: TERMINATOR THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES

When we last left Sarah Connor and Co: The season ended off with a bang [literally!] as Cameron fell victim to an apparent car bomb.

This season: Picks up immediately thereafter, as Sarah, John and Derek deal with the fairly shocking aftermath of what just happened. Turns out, robots and car bombs don’t exactly mix and Summer Glau wasn’t kidding when she told the TV Addict in a recent interview that, “Cameron is more unpredictable then ever.”

In fact, it’s Cameron’s unpredictably that leads to one helluva surprising scene in the season premiere’s opening moments. Something that will both literally and figuratively divide the Conner clan forever. Which is unfortunate, because Sarah, John, Derek and Cameron are really going to need to work together this season. Especially when they come face-to-face with new series regulars Catherine Weaver [Shirley Manson] and the always menacing Cromartie [Garrett Dillahunt].

Exclusive: Richard T. Jones Spills SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES Secrets

August 20th, 2008

agent ellison terminator
The TV Addict with Richard T. Jones in Los Angeles

Who needs machines sent from the future when you’ve got actor Richard T. Jones?

Between the recent Television Critics Association Press Tour, Comic Con and the FOX Fall Press Junket, TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES star Richard T. Jones is a one man publicity machine.

Which is exactly what this TV Addict started off our interview asking about when I was given the recent opportunity to sit down with Mr. Jones at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel in Los Angeles.

So you’re pretty much an unstoppable publicity machine. How do you do it?
I have no idea. I’m still trying to get used to. I mean on the one hand you don’t want to tell too much because you want the audience to still be surprised. But on the other hand, everybody is interested in the show. I’ve been doing this for a long time and I still can’t wrap my head around it. I’m not used to all the lights and big events. I just like going to work and doing the job.

Do you enjoy this side of the business?
It’s fine. You meet people and everybody’s great. I remember hearing Keanu Reeves once saying, “I like the fact that people dig what I do.” And I agree with that.

Now I know Josh [Josh Friedman, TERMINATOR Showrunner] doesn’t really like information getting out there…
Not even to us, believe me.
