Free Film Friday: See SMALLVILLE’s Kristin Kreuk on the Big Screen

March 6th, 2009

The rules are simple. The first fifteen Kristin Kreuk fans to leave a comment below will receive a free pass (good for two admissions) to see STREET FIGHTER: LEGEND OF CHUN-LI on the big screen (and a STREET FIGHTER comic book to go with the tickets as well!)

Based on the legendary video game by Capcom, STREET FIGHTER: THE LEGEND OF CHUN-LI brings new dimension to a world and characters beloved by millions. Devastated by the kidnapping of her father, Chun- Li takes to the streets of Hong Kong, embarking on an epic quest for justice- and hurtling toward a confrontation with a seemingly unstoppable foe.

But before you post, there’s a catch: The tickets are only valid from Monday thru Thursday at any Cineplex Entertainment Theatre in the Greater Toronto Area. Tickets are not transferable to any other movie and have no face value.

February 24th, 2009

That noise you just heard was the squee of three million or so SUPERNATURAL fangirls learning that their favorite Winchester brothers, alongside GOSSIP GIRL, ONE TREE HILL, 90210, AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL and SMALLVILLE have all been given early renewals for next season by The CW.

“As we continue to build The CW Network as a destination for young women, these six shows have clearly contributed to strengthening our schedule and our brand identity,” said The CW president Dawn Ostroff in a statement released to the media. “By securing these signature hits for next season, we’re furthering our commitment to deliver high-quality, original programming to our viewers, advertisers and affiliates.”

First Look: Tori Spelling Returns to SMALLVILLE

February 13th, 2009

Good News: SMALLVILLE’s next new episode looks fantastic. Bad News: March 12th is an awfully long way away.

Tonight’s TV Addictions: February 5, 2009

February 5th, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
UGLY BETTY (8PM ABC, CityTV in Canada)
Daniel’s got something to hide, and Betty is caught up in family matters. In other words, just another day in her world. On the plus side, that cute neighbor of Betty’s seems to be taking a renewed interested in her, so maybe things are looking up.

THE OFFICE (9PM NBC, Global in Canada)
Ugh. Michael goes on yet another road trip. That’s the bad news. The good news is that Pam is along for the ride this time instead of Dwight. But I’m not 100% convinced even she can make Michael more palatable at this point.

SUPERNATURAL (9PM CW)
A sexy siren (is there any other kind?) lures three men to their doom. And when the Winchester boys investigate, it’s brother-vs-brother thanks to the evil temptress!

GREY’S ANATOMY (9PM ABC, CTV in Canada)
Having apparently not learned a thing from every other doctor or intern at Seattle Grace, Lexie demands that she and Mark make their relationship public. Meanwhile, having not learned a thing from his girlfriend’s nearly psychotic narcissistic whining, Derek tries figuring out just the right way to propose. (Dude, trust us: No matter what you do, she’ll kevetch about it later.)

30 ROCK (9:30PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
Can the unlucky-in-love Liz Lemon finally get her act together and impress her sexy new neighbor (special guest Jon Hamm)? Yeah, wouldn’t bet on it.

PRIVATE PRACTICE (10PM NBC, “A” in Canada)
Crossover alert! When Addison’s brother has a seizure, she calls in ex-hubby Derek (of GREY’S ANATOMY) for a consult. Translation: This show is in trouble, and they need to lure in viewers any way they can. Ha! You can’t fool us, sly ABC executives!

Good News: THE CLEVELAND SHOW has officially gotten picked up for an entire season proving, as creator Seth MacFarlane so accurately put it, “that an African-American can make it in this country!” Bad News: Fans will have to wait until Fall 2009 for the show to premiere. [Source]

Good News: Bryan Fuller, the man who many (including this TV Addict) believe was responsible for the high quality of HEROES first season is getting set to re-join the show. Bad News: When PUSHING DAISIES finishes shooting its final episode this week. [Source]

Good News: Tori Spelling is getting set to return to the CW. Bad News: On SMALLVILLE, not 90210 (yet!) [Source]

Perez Hilton Guests on PRIVILEGED

When it comes to pandering, McCain and Obama have nothing on the Big 5 Television Networks. Which is why theTVaddict.com will be spending the next few days highlighting some of the most blatant sweeps casting stunts since Britney appeared on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER. First up the CW, complete with witty one-lines free of charge.

November 3: THE OC’s Willa Holland returns as Jenny’s bad influence on GOSSIP GIRL. In related gossip, Holland’s fictional TV sister Misha Barton is quietly segwaying into professional dog walking. Awkward.

November 4: 90210’s Harry and Debbie tell Annie and Dixon that their Grandmother is being written out of the show about Harry’s son who was given up for adoption.

November 4: Our favorite Nun Kathy Najimy guest stars as the twin’s hot-shot publicist on PRIVILEGED.

November 6: After discovering how not so super the unemployment line is, Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort) returns to SMALLVILLE.

Exclusive Interview: SMALLVILLE Star Cassidy Freeman

October 30th, 2008

tess mercer cassidy freeman
By: Melissa Girimonte

If there’s one thing I enjoy, it’s a good villain, and this fall, SMALLVILLE fans were introduced to a spectacular new bad girl – Tess Mercer. This red haired beauty is Lex Luthor’s successor, acting CEO of LuthorCorp, and in control of Luthor’s estate since his disappearance. Stepping in for Luthor is quite the feat, but Tess Mercer seems to be holding her own so far this season, proving to be ruthless and calculating like her mentor.

I had the chance to chat with Cassidy Freeman, the woman responsible for bringing Tess Mercer to life each week on SMALLVILLE. After discussing the fall foliage in Vancouver (which Freeman admits she’s enjoying, having moved there from LA), we discussed her character’s development so far, her fantastic displays of physical prowess, and how she pictures Tess’ future.

What’s it like being the new person on such a well-established TV program?
Cassidy Freeman: It’s pretty awesome. People are always asking me if it’s daunting or if it’s scary, and I can’t think of a better vehicle. It’s not like when you do a pilot and there’s all this figuring out to do.

Tess Mercer was a character created for Smallville, but her name pays tribute to two characters from the Superman universe. Do you find that her not being a pre-established character is a help or a hindrance?
I think I have a bit of an advantage. She’s a nod to Miss Teschmacher and Mercy Graves, but she’s not them (both were loyal assistants of Lex Luthor). I have this idea of what the viewers might be expecting, and I’m able to make my own take on that, along with input from the producers and the writers. It’s given me a bit of a guideline, but a lot of freedom. I think it’s a wonderful thing.

Exclusive Interview: SMALLVILLE Star Sam Witwer

September 25th, 2008

sam witwer smallville

With roles in DEXTER, the new STAR WARS video game and SMALLVILLE, actor Sam Witwer has seemingly corned the market on evil. Well, playing evil that is. Which is exactly what this TV Addict started off asking him about when I was given the opportunity to chat with the actor about his newest role as Davis Bloome/Doomsday on SMALLVILLE.

Let me start off by asking. What’s with all the dark characters?
Sam Witwer: SMALLVILLE approached me and said we need an actor to be extraordinarily dark, yet really sweet and vulnerable. On DEXTER I played the devil, in THE MIST I’m probably the nicest guy in the movie, so I’m not sure what they saw. But it’s exciting to be on SMALLVILLE, it’s been really fun and I’m happy about it.

Before we delve into SMALLVILLE I’d like to take a moment to discuss another killer “D” you’ve been associated with. I had no idea until I started doing research for this interview [and by research, this TV Addict naturally is referring to pulling up your imdb profile] that you played the fraudulent Ice Truck Killer on DEXTER!
No one realized I was on DEXTER but it was really fun to work on. I got to shave my head and fake that I was the Ice Truck Killer. Nobody recognizes me, which I actually find really flattering because as actor you strive to make every character different.

Your character Davis Bloome is making his first appearance on SMALLVILLE tonight. What can you tell us about him?
Davis is a paramedic in Metropolis and is a really sweet, conscientious and moral guy. So if you’re tuning into SMALLVILLE tonight, you’re not going to see a d*ck or a lunatic. Unfortunately, it just so happens that he’s also Doomsday and when he finds out about it, he isn’t too happy.

You Be the Critic: SMALLVILLE & SUPERNATURAL

September 19th, 2008

Following last night’s fantastic season premieres of both SMALLVILLE and SUPERNATURAL this TV Addict is left pondering two very simple questions. First off, should next season’s SMALLVILLE spin-off be called METROPOLIS or JUSTICE LEAGUE? And two, are we about to head towards a future where the web’s favorite brotherly duo are on opposite sides of the issue? Would SUPERNATURAL showrunner Eric Kripke seriously turn Dean against Sam as they face off in a Holy War to save humanity. Angels versus Demons, brother against brother, fandom v fandom? I’m not so sure the internet will be able to handle it. Post away with your thoughts. And for the record, this TV Addict is totally voting Sam/Demon ‘08 come November!
