SCRUBS: Give Ausiello An Emmy

February 9th, 2007

The Time: 9:27PM, The Place: My living room.

As we were nearing the end of last night’s episode of SCRUBS, two thoughts were running through my mind. One, I can’t believe I skipped GREY’S ANATOMY for an Ausiello cameo on SCRUBS. And two, I can’t believe after all the hype, Ausiello was cut out of the episode! Of course just as I started typing a post to that effect, Michael Ausiello appeared on screen for an ending so shocking it would give LOST’S “Challah” (or is it “Matzo Ball”?) a run for its money.

WOW, I did not expect Kim to pull one over JD and actually keep the baby a secret from him. I fully expected the writer’s of SCRUBS to take the easy way out — have Kim lose the baby — thus allowing JD to continue living his life as a perpetual university student. And by that I mean continue to date and break up with beautiful women with virtually zero consequences.

Of course, now the question remains: When and how will JD discover that he’s still a father-to be? My guess, the final scene of the season finale in May! Stay Tuned….

Finally, Ausiello if you’re reading this [and I know you keep your press clippings]. Well done with your ten second cameo. I truly believed you were a Doctor. You delivered an Emmy worthy one line performance. And you never know, if Ellen Burstyn can snag an Emmy nod for fourteen seconds of work, maybe you’ve got a chance as well.

Note to readers: If you happen to blink often, you may have missed Ausiello’s cameo on SCRUBS. Click here to check it out.

Imagine SCRUBS as a Serious Drama

February 8th, 2007

Thanks to scenes like this, I’ve always considered SCRUBS far more dramatic than almost any medical show on television. Apparently great minds think alike, and my friends over at BuzzSugar thought it would be fun — after having seen it work for THE OFFICE, to re-edit scenes from SCRUBS and transform it into a bonafide medical drama. Click below to see what I’ve cleverly named SCRUBS: ER Edition™.

Ausiello Guest Stars on SCRUBS Tonight

February 8th, 2007

Michael Ausiello has sworn he’ll douse me in Snapple and pepper me with Smurfs if I neglect to mention his guest-starring gig on tonight’s episode of SCRUBS (9PM NBC). While the ‘veteran’ actor and somewhat ‘in-the-know’ TV columnist has previously appeared on VERONICA MARS (Guy on Couch) and GILMORE GIRLS (Man in the Dragonfly Library), Ausiello promises that tonight fans will actually get a chance to see him ‘act’.

Don’t believe him? Neither did I, but Elizabeth Banks who plays Dr. Kim in the scene took a moment off camera to attest to his skills, “I felt like Ausiello was a real doctor.  I mean, he was wearing the outfit, he said all the right things…I was very impressed.”

And how does Ausiello feel about his big scene being up against the ratings juggernaut that is GREY’S ANATOMY? Sadly, he couldn’t be reached for comment. But had he been, he no doubt would have expected his guest-starring role to take down those Doctors from Seattle Grace, and snag himself a guest starring Emmy nod in the process.

Ausiello chronicles his Scrubs experience in an on-set video diary posted online at TVGuide.com/Ausiello.

FRIENDS REUNITE ON FX’S DIRT
Turns out when they sang ‘I’ll be there for you…’ Jennifer Aniston really meant it. According to reports leaking from the January Television Critics Association Press Tour, the former Mrs. Pitt will guest star on the March 27 season finale of Courtney Cox’s new FX drama DIRT. The two haven’t worked together since FRIENDS ended in May of 2004. Aniston will play Tina Harrod, a tabloid editor and competitor of Lucy Spiller (Courtney Cox).

SCRUBS TO GET A SEVENTH SEASON
Television’s most heartwarming and entertaining comedy will most likely be returning for a seventh (and final!) season. According to creator Bill Lawrence, should NBC pass on bringing the show back, it will find a home at Touchstone’s corporate cousin, ABC. “Since every produced episode makes a ton of money for Touchstone,” Lawrence says, “they told us not to write a finale for this year.” Continues Lawrence, “We’ve essentially been told that NBC is really happy with how we are doing. I would say it’s better than a coin flip we are back on NBC.” Lawrence also says that the show would not continue without star Zach Braff, but he “feels pretty good” that Braff is on board for a seventh and final season.

Thursday Night TV Thoughts

January 12th, 2007

As hard as I tried, as dedicated — sorry addicted as I am, I simply didn’t have the strength and stamina to get through an entire night of Thursday television. Like the marathoner who collapses right before the finish line, I had to summon every last inch of strength to get through the night and complete over six hours of television watching. I started off with THE OC (loved it), headed into UGLY BETTY (Sophia better be fired), moved onto GREY’S ANATOMY (Give T.R. Knight an Emmy), followed with THE OFFICE (I love Dwight), headed on to SCRUBS (Carla lost it, WOW) and finished off the knight with 30 ROCK (Where’s my Meat Machine™?). SMALLVILLE and Tori Spelling, I tried my best — but rest assured, you’re stored on my PVR and will be watched this weekend.

To conserve some energy and build up strength for next Thursday, the following our my Cole’s/Cliff’s notes version of my thoughts:

THE OC: While it’s slightly odd that THE OC has evolved into the Taylor show, she does do a killer French accent. Julie is foiled again, I wonder how she’ll redeem herself? Summer/Pancakes/Seth — adorable. One thing confuses me though, did they break up? Or are they on a ‘break’?

UGLY BETTY: For all her brains and beauty, Sophia really isn’t that smart. Publicly humiliating your bosses son doesn’t seem like the way to make it to the top. Sure your magazine launch is a huge success, but if I were boss, the closest you’d be getting to issue #2 is when you’re forced to buy it on the newstand while waiting in line in the unemployment line.

GREY’S ANATOMY: T.R. Knight gave his finest performance yet on last night’s edition of GREY’S. His scene with Meredith outside the hospital room was heartbreaking. Izzie finally deposits her inheritance — it’s about time. Obviously she’s going to want to donate to that poor girl with the spinal problem. My theory, in order to avoid getting to connected to every needy patient, Izzie will donate the money to the hospital and create the ‘Denny Wing’. Finally, can’t talk GREY’S without mentioning Seattle Grace’s hottest new couple (to be) — Addison and Alex. Can’t wait to see the inevitable fistfight between McSteamy and Alex.

THE OFFICE: Last night was all about Dwight, but in a good way. Firstly, as somewhat insane as he is, I love how the writers actually make him good at his job. The phone ploy he pulled with Jim was quite clever and at least give us viewers a plausible reason as to how Dunder Mifflin actually stays in business. Dwight also stayed trued to himself by protecting Angela’s honor, and quitting (gasp!) Dunder Mifflin. Perhaps I missed it, but how on earth did NBC not over-hype this completely with endless “Someone is quitting THE OFFICE” promos all week long?

SCRUBS: For six years Carla was the character who was always in control. Seeing Carla actually admit defeat was quite shocking — especially listening to her conversation with Jordan. Serious props goes to SCRUBS for once again handling the delicate subject of postpartum depression with such realism and dignity. Also, I love how Jordan is portrayed as this Godzilla-like pregnant woman (As she stomps down the hallways of Sacred Heart with “Isn’t She Lovely…” playing in the background). Talk about serious therapy for Jordan’s real-life husband Bill Lawrence!

30 ROCK: Last night’s episode of 30 ROCK was no doubt the series best to date. I would pay anything to watch Jenna’s film “Rural Juror”. More then that, two hilarious cameos by Whoopie Goldberg, and another hilarious performance by Alec Baldwin. This show keeps getting better and better. All that’s left is for NBC/Universal/Ge to actually start producing those Meat Machines™ (Knowing NBC marketing, no doubt plans are already in the work!)

SCRUBS: The Musical, Sneak Peak #2

December 29th, 2006

Courtesy of NBC, another sneak peak at the upcoming musical episode of SCRUBS. While ‘Everything Comes Down to Poo’ may not be the most elegant title, it’s classic SCRUBS funny. Don’t believe me, check out the clip above — and be sure to tune into SCRUBS on January 18 for an episode you won’t soon forget. (Thursdays, 9PM on NBC)

Missed out on ‘Guy Love’, you can view it by clicking here.

TV’s Top 10 Shows of 2006

December 29th, 2006

DEXTER An hour long drama about a serial killer. Does anybody actually want to see that? Luckily for Showtime [and fans of quality TV] a record number of people did — and for good reason. DEXTER featured an Emmy worthy performance by Michael C Hall (Dexter Morgan), compelling stories and most importantly (in the age of serialized ‘when are we going to get a resolution’ dramas) an actual ending. The show was the surprise hit of 2006 — and no, DEXTER isn’t number one on our list because we’re really quite scared of what he’ll do to us if he’s not happy.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA No show on television dares to challenge its viewers as much as BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Whether its showing us a different side of terrorism, or portraying its ‘human heroes’ as people willing to do some seriously awful things (yes, you heard us Starbuck) — the show’s writing team, led by the brilliant Ronald D Moore, never takes the easy way out. Let’s hope our heroes don’t find Earth too quickly, as this TV addict doesn’t wish to see BATTLESTAR end anytime soon.
A Favourite YouTube Moment — Second Season Finale

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Three words: Robing Sparkles and Swarley. Oh wait, there’s more…. Grinch, Suit Up, Steak Sauce, pretty much anything that comes out of Barney’s mouth. This year, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER truly came into its own, found its voice, and evolved into the FRIENDS replacement that we’ve so desperately needed. With a charming cast and razor sharp dialogue, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was officially the funniest, most talked about, three camera comedy on TV.
A Favourite YouTube Moment — Robin’s Secret

GREY’S ANATOMY What’s been lost amidst all the behind-the-scenes antics is that 2006 was by far the strongest year to date for the doctors of Seattle Grace. With water-cooler moments ranging from the fantastic Superbowl episode, to Denny’s death and more recently the deterioration of Dr. Burke and Cristina’s relationship, GREY’S ANATOMY is still our go-to drama for emotional high-stakes drama.
A Favourite YouTube Moment — Grey’s Anatomy The Fray

SCRUBS SCRUBS is that rare breed of show that simply does everything well. It tugs at the heart-strings as well as any medical drama while at the same time manages to be as funny as any episode of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER. After six years, the show has developed such a rich stock of supporting characters [Ted the lawyer, the Todd, Security guard with a hook etc…) that it has essentially evolved into a live-action equivalent of THE SIMPSONS (but with more heart). If you’re still not on the bandwagon, do yourself a favour and check into Sacred Heart soon. Sadly, if the rumours are true, it may be the last season you’ll be able to.

Watch a Sneak Peek of SCRUBS The Musical

December 28th, 2006

According to a press release from NBC Universal, starting on December 29, fans of NBC’s comedy “Scrubs” (Thursdays, 9-9:30 p.m. ET) can get ready to ring in 2007 with a sneak peek of the program’s highly anticipated musical episode for broadcast on January 18.

“Everything Comes Down to Poo,” performed by Golden Globe nominee Zach Braff, Donald Faison and guest star Stephanie D’Abruzzo (”Avenue Q”), is available exclusively on YouTube and is the second preview to hit the Internet. “Guy Love” performed by Braff and Faison, a song that outlines the unique relationship between their characters, is also available on YouTube and for download on iTunes through February.

Life is but a song for the cast of “Scrubs” when they star in their own musical episode featuring songs written by the Tony Award-winning composers of “Avenue Q,” Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx. The episode showcases original “Avenue Q” cast member D’Abruzzo as a patient who checks into Sacred Heart complaining of hearing incessant music — and the hospital is soon turned into a stage.

The inventive “Scrubs,” which continues in its sixth season, also pays homage to the medical drama series “House” with a special episode on January 4.
