Return of EUREKA Worth Shouting About!

July 5th, 2007

Although BATTLESTAR GALACTICA gets the lion’s share of the buzz generated by the Sci Fi channel, it’s worth noting that the soon-to-conclude space opera isn’t the only intelligent, layered, well-acted program the network has produced. Case in point: EUREKA, which launches its second season on Tuesday, July 10 at 9 p.m. ET, with an episode which picks up where the emotionally stunning first season finale left off.

For Eureka sheriff Jack Carter (played with equal parts wit and charm by Colin Ferguson), this means trying to keep quiet about the fact that he and mechanic Henry (Joe Morton) spent four years living an alternate-future timeline and therefore know — or think they do — what the next four years holds for their friends and neighbors. It also means forgetting the four years of bliss he had with Alison (Salli Richardson) and being forced to watch her be lured back into the web of her charming-to-a-fault estranged hubby, Nathan. And although Jack begins the season believing that all good things will come to those who wait — easy to do, what with having already seen tomorrow with his own eyes — unfolding events (and spontaneously combusting townies) quickly prove that the future isn’t necessarily carved in stone.

This first episode of the season will prove very satisfying for fans of the series, but a bit intimidating to newbies, who might be better advised to jump in during the following week’s offering, titled “Try, Try Again”, which relies less on knowledge of past plot points. In either case, EUREKA is yet another example of the smart, hip offerings the Sci Fi Channel specializes in, with witty dialogue delivered by appealing actors in a quirky-yet-completely-relatable small-town setting. It’s not surprising the major networks tend to avoid diving into this genre, as it’s hard to imagine them green lighting shows like EUREKA, which takes the box we’re always told to think outside of and reveals it to be a doorway to another dimension.

SCI FI Digital Press Tour: STARGATE ATLANTIS

July 1st, 2007

One of the most interesting parts of theTVaddict.com’s recent SCI FI press tour was visiting the set of STARGATE ATLANTIS. Even with the show being on hiatus, a very pregnant Rachel Luttrell, a not so pregnant David Hewlett as well as show-runners Joe Mallozzi and Paul Mullie were kind enough to take an hour out of their day to talk to some very excited reporters.

Meet the Cast of FLASH GORDON

June 29th, 2007

One of the most exciting aspects of theTVaddict.com’s SCI FI adventure was getting an early peak at FLASH GORDON. First thing I learned — FLASH GORDON is NOT a re-imagination of the CBS action adventure featuring the fastest man on earth! Turns out, FLASH GORDON is SCI FI’S contemporized version of the beloved 1934’s comic strip originally drawn by Alex Raymond. Hey, don’t blame me, I’m theTVaddict, not theCOMICaddict. That said, FLASH GORDON follows the all-new adventures of Flash (Eric Johnson) and his companions, Dale Arden (Gina Holden) and Dr. Hans Zarkov (Jody Racicot). Ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances, they find themselves as Earth’s last line of defense against the forces of the merciless dictator Ming (John Ralston). The video above is the panel discussion from Wednesday’s SCI FI Digital Press Event.

More BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Scoop

June 27th, 2007

At yesterday’s SCI FI Digital Press panel, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA fan favorite Aaron Douglas surprised the audience by revealing that he knew months prior that his character — fan favorite Chief Tyrol — was indeed one of the final five Cylons.”I found out months in advance, accidently,” divulged Douglas. ” I found a piece of paper lying around that I was not supposed to see.”Of course, when you’re one of twenty-five intrepid reporters desperate for any morsel of scoop with regards to the upcoming fourth season of GALACTICA, the phrase, ‘things we’re not supposed to see’ popped up far too often for our liking. Yet that didn’t stop this TV Addict from gathering as much intel as possible in an effort to uncover any info about the highly anticipated final season.First bit of scoop, episode four or five’s title is “Into the West.” Turns out Aaron Douglas isn’t the only person to see ‘interesting’ pieces of paper lying around the set. In fact, one couldn’t help but notice entire scripts lying inconspicuously around the gritty and cramped Galactica corridors. But rest assured SCI FI executives — not wanting to risk being ejected from the nearest air lock — this TV Addict didn’t dare pick it up. No matter how curious he was to discover what the episode’s title, “Into the West” really meant. Read the rest of this entry »

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Season Four Scoop

June 27th, 2007

Dateline 4:50AM, Vancouver Time. Before I head out to the set of FLASH GORDON I thought I’d pop in and give you the info you’re all clamoring for. I did indeed get my photo taken on the STARGATE ATLANTIS set. Okay, seriously folks, on to what I know you want — BATTLESTAR GALACTICA news. Not surprisingly, the cast, crew, costume designers, key grips and anyone remotely related to the show were tight-lipped with regards to what’s in store for fans this final season. I can reveal that fans should expect to see a new ship around episode five/six (called the Demitrius), Michael Hogan is not happy about being a Cylon and Aaron Douglas alluded to the fact that within the first few episodes of the season, his character Chief Tyrol may [or may not] find himself on the brink of being tossed out of an airlock. Presumably when President Roslin finds out about his little secret.Stay tuned all week for more in-depth reports from the sets of EUREKA, STARGATE ATLANTIS, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and FLASH GORDON.

June 26th, 2007

Needless to say I’m giddy with excitement and can’t wait to get the scoop on all your favourite shows.Stay tuned for updates, but in the meantime, feel free to follow along as I post regularly via Twitter. And note, if I’ve gone silent for too long, the TV Addict was undoubtedly ‘escorted’ off the premises for trying to commandeer a Viper and lead the BSG crew back to earth.
