You Be the Critic: TIN MAN

December 3rd, 2007

While a record 6.3 million viewers tuned into Night 1 of SCI FI’s original miniseries TIN MAN, this TV Addict — having just received his screener in the mail — must ask the question: Is TIN MAN worth investing six hours of my time in? Sure the preview looks fantastic, but shortening Dorthy’s name to ‘D.G.’ and lines like “Welcome to the O.Z.” have me concerned. Post away with your thoughts on Night 1 and whether or not you’ll be tuning into Night’s 2 and 3.

We Preview BATTLESTAR GALACTICA RAZOR

November 14th, 2007

bsg razor

By: Amrie Cunningham

First things first – all TV shows should be shown on a movie theatre screen. I had the opportunity to see Battlestar Galactica: Razor at a theatre near my house, and it blew me away. I have to admit that the storyline itself felt kind of pulled together and I struggled to find myself caring about this tertiary character that had never once been mentioned in the show I’ve dedicated hours upon hours of viewing time to. But seeing the show on the giant movie screen gave me a whole new appreciation for many things.

Edward James Olmos (Bill Adama) says more with a look than any modern actor probably can. The screen lights up every time Mary McDonnell (President Roslin) appears, even if for just one minute. Jamie Bamber (Lee Adama) on the big screen is just frakkin hot. Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck) is obviously having so much fun playing a complete bad ass. Tricia Helfer (Gina/Six) is beautiful and conveys pain and pride in a combination that would have knocked me over if I had been standing up. And Michele Forbes (Helena Cain) is my hero. How’s that for set up?

Welcome to the OZ B*tch

October 8th, 2007

Admittedly, riffing on the words ‘THE OC’ was cool, you know, like three years ago — but all the same, with a cast featuring the likes of Zooey Deschanel, Richard Dreyfuss, Alan Cumming, Neal McDonough and Kathleen Robertson — we’re psyched all the same for SCI FI’s re-imagined take on the WIZARD OF OZ. Enjoy this first look at TIN MAN.

The TV Addict’s Weekly SCI FI Round Up

September 5th, 2007

TheTVaddict.com is thrilled to have teamed up with our friends at SyFy Portal to give you a weekly round up of some of the biggest news in nerd SCI FI entertainment.

Hoping to squeeze every last dollar from the concluding BATTLESTAR GALACTICA franchise, rumours are swirling online that SCI FI may delay the second half of BSG’s final season until 2009. For a more informed take on the rumours, check out SyFy’s interview with GALACTICA producer David Weddle [click for more]

After failing to strike a deal with Apple, NBC Universal has made the bone-headed decision to bite the hand that feeds them to form an alliance with Amazon. Unfortunately, Amazon’s UnBox service doesn’t work with Macs or iPods. Which begs the question, who’s in charge of this negotiation — 30 ROCK’s Jack Donaghy? [click for more]

Kevin Smith will not be directing an episode of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA this season. While those ‘in the know’ sight scheduling conflicts — we have a feeling what really ended his involvement was the story-line he had planned for Baltar and Gaeta! For all the scoop, check out SyFy’s story. [click for more]

The TV Addict’s Weekly SCI FI Round Up

August 17th, 2007

TheTVaddict.com is thrilled to have teamed up with our friends at SyFy Portal to give you a weekly round up of some of the biggest news in nerd SCI FI entertainment.

For some inexplicable reason, HEROES has cast another former Trek legend. This time, bringing on Nichelle Nichols for five or six episodes. Which begs the obvious question — does anyone else think it’s far too early in HEROES run to be going to the ’stunt casting’ well this many times? How are they going to revitalize the show in season seven? [click for more]

SCI FI has announced their fall schedule and four of the five Cylon Gods agree — it rocks thanks to a November BATTLESTAR GALACTICA mini-series, and the upcoming holiday movie event TIN MAN. [click for more]

JERI RYAN’S former stalker has been arrested again. We have a feeling, Jeri Ryan’s new co-star Sebastian SHARK won’t be defending him. [click for more]

Executive producer Joel Silver promises that his new show MOONLIGHT will not be ANGEL 2.0. That sigh you heard, thousands of really disappointed ANGEL fans. [click for more from SyFy] or check out the original article at classic-horror.com

And finally, In spite of predominantly negative reviews, SCI FI’s latest series FLASH GORDON pulled in decent ratings. Having seen the second and third episode, this TV Addict can’t help but hope fans give the show another look. The show’s second and third episodes are a vast improvement over the first. With the writers realizing that FLASH GORDON is supposed to be light-hearted escapist fun, not serious and dull.

Fun with Headlines: FLASH GORDON Edition

August 10th, 2007

The most unfortunate thing about SCI FI’s re-imagined take on FLASH GORDON isn’t that it fails to live up to the network’s previous re-imagination — BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Rather, it’s that the show’s title makes it far too easy a target for negative headlines. Here’s a few of our favorites:

‘Flash Gordon’ Missing the Flash — SyFy Portal

‘Flash Gordon’ not out of this world — Newsday

‘Flash Gordon’ Fizzles — The Tampa Tribute

You’ll pan this ‘Flash’ as soon as you see it — USA Today

Lost in Space — NY Post

Super zero: ‘Flash Gordon’ likely to pass quicker than speed of light — Boston Herald

Poor writing leaves ‘Flash Gordon’ grounded — Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Proving yet again the art of subtlety is lost on The Hollywood Reporter comes, “Flash Gordon” remake a little ridiculous. With the award for least flashy headline going to Cleveland.com’s ‘The Plain Dealer’. Who gives us, ‘Sci Fi Channel brings back Flash Gordon.’ (well duh!) That said, the newspaper does have the word ‘plain’ in the title. We probably shouldn’t have expected anything flashy.

The TV Addict Conquers Comic Con

July 23rd, 2007

The TV Addict is getting set to head out on a West coast adventure. First stop Los Angeles, followed by a drive down the PCH to San Diego for Comic Con 2007. And yes, I know what you’re thinking — I’ll be sure to say ‘Hi’ to Weevil and the PCH’ers on the way down to Neptune, sorry San Diego.

In celebration of our trip to nerd fest Comic Con — theTVaddict.com is giving away a WHO WANTS TO BE A SUPERHERO? prize pack in an effort to help spread the word that [not surprisingly] Stan Lee’s WHO WANTS TO BE A SUPERHERO returns to SCI FI for a fantastic second season starting this Thursday July 26 at 9PM.

Interested in winning a Season One DVD, a Frakk Off t-shirt and one Feedback comic book? Simply post in the comments below your favorite childhood superhero and why. The winner will be notified via email on Wednesday August 1, 2007.

FARSCAPE Returns!

July 16th, 2007

Long before the crew of a certain battlestar taught us to say “frak you!”, a lost-in-space astronaut named John Crichton and his band of merry misfits had fans imploring one another to “frell off”. And later this year, Crichton and company will return as FARSCAPE is brought to scifi.com in a 10-part webisode series. Although few details are currently known, the project will be executive produced by Brian Henson and Robert Halmi Jr., and produced by The Jim Henson Company, and we are told it will “revive and expand the beloved FARSCAPE universe.” All we can say is that it’s about frellin’ time!
