Comic Con Recap: DEXTER

July 24th, 2009

Roll Call: In attendance were Michael C Hall (Dexter), Julie Benz (Rita), Jennifer Carpenter (Deb), John Lithgow (Who joins the cast this season as the Trinity Killer and oddly enough got the panel’s largest cheer) alongside Executive Producers Tony Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Clyde Phillips and Melissa Rosenberg (Who also has the dubious distinction of scripting the Twilight movies)

It’s a Boy!: According to proud papa Michael C. Hall himself, “the baby [named Harrison in honor of Papa Harry] has yet to exhibit any signs of having a ‘Dark Passenger’ of his very own, but the possibility is always there.” Adds Benz, “I hope my genes take over.”

Get Ready to Rumble: Those anticipating a showdown between John Litghow’s Trinity killer and Michael C. Hall’s Dexter shouldn’t hold their breath. At least according to Lithgow, who didn’t exactly have an answer when asked what it’s like to work with such a talented cast since five episodes in, he has yet to do so! Teased Lithgow, “I spend a lot of the first five episodes lurking and stalking!”

Killer Laughs: If given the choice, Lithgow’s first victim would be his famous TV alter ego, 3rd ROCK FROM THE SUN’s High Commander Dick Solomon. “I loved the character and am proud of 3rd ROCK but it’s nice to be back. People have almost forgotten Raising Cain, Cliffhanger, Ricochet. Those types of films were my stock and trade for a while.”

Comic Con 2009: A TV Addict’s Guide

July 22nd, 2009

Ladies and Gentleman start your engines! Because in T-Minus 12 hours, your very own TV Addict — if all goes according to plan thank-you-very-much-Air-Canada — will be touching down in beautiful and sunny San Diego for Comic Con 2009.

Yup, it’s that time again. Those magical four days in July when this TV Addict braves the Twihards, Trekkies and TORCHWOOD fans [Oh My!] to bring you live coverage of all of your favorite shows (Unless of course you favorite show is LOST, in which case let me apologize in advance because Hall H simply ain’t gonna happen.) That said, I do expect to be interviewing quite a few of your favorite small screen stars, in addition to attending some pretty exciting parties and panels. The latter of which I’ve highlighted in yellow after the jump.

As is always the case, be sure you’re following the TV Addict on twitter for the latest up-to-date-news (Borderline obnoxious tweets that will have you wishing you were in San Diego come free-of-charge!) Oh, and if the site isn’t updated by 5PM Thursday, send help — as the odds are fairly good a stampede of overzealous Twilight fans trampled me while attempting to chase after Robert Pattinson’s limo.

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: “Must Bring” Comic Con Essentials

July 20th, 2009

comic_con_crowd

Comfortable Shoes
Why? Well, measuring 1,104,309 square feet, the San Diego Convention Center stretches longer than the eye can see. A fact that you’ll become intimately familiar with as you scuttle between panels, events and the showroom floor all the while trying to navigate your way between gaggles of anime-costumed adults reenacting scenes from obscure Japanese television show you’ve never heard of.

Water and Snacks
Bring your own. Unless you enjoy waiting in ludicrously long lines for stale pretzels, or paying exorbitant prices for bottled water.

Deodorant and Hand Sanitizer
If not for yourself, then for those around you. Because after four days of walking around the petri-dish that is San Diego’s downtown core. Odds are fairly good that you (a) smell and (b) may have possibly contracted swine flu.

Thomas Dekker & Summer Glau Talk TERMINATOR Season 2

August 11th, 2008

Hoping to give fans a second chance to jump on the bandwagon, FOX has made the savvy decision to re-run the entire first season of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CHRONICLES this week.

And to celebrate two words that rarely find their way into a sentence together. You know, ‘FOX’ and ‘Savvy’ [seriously, will the bitterness over FIREFLY's cancellation ever end?], this TV Addict thought today would be the perfect opportunity to run our recent conversation with TERMINATOR stars Thomas Dekker and Summer Glau. Who took a few minutes following their panel at the recent San Diego Comic Con to talk to the media.

Thomas Dekker: Hey, I love theTVAddict.com, how are you?

The TV Addict: I’m great thanks. You know, it would really help me out if you repeated “I love theTVaddict.com” [as I record it for posterity!]

Thomas Dekker: I love the TV addict. No really. You’ve given me some great coverage.

The TV Addict: I guess that’s what happens when I actually put your words in context and don’t make stuff up.

Thomas Dekker: It’s amazing. Usually I’ll say something and say ‘just kidding’ only to discover later on that whomever is interviewing me miraculously left out the ‘just kidding’ part. [See Milo/HaydenGate 2008]

Even though let’s face it, I could talk about your love for theTVaddict.com all day, we probably should get down to business [as I sense that some of my fellow journalists sitting across the table actually want to talk about the show!] Talk about John Connor growing some cajones this season?
Thomas Dekker: Thank the Lord finally. Last season I purposely wanted to play the role weak. Have John hide behind his hair like a weak kid, even though we [and by 'we' Dekker refers to himself and showrunner Josh Friedman] knew it would frustrate people who wanted to see this savior. So in the second season we’re going to see him emerge.

John doesn’t want to feel anymore. Especially after going through this huge ‘thing’ that I cannot disclose. Pretty much, a bunch of things will happen at the beginning of the season that completely change him. John’s a different person who learns that in a way, he will have to be a machine of himself.

The TV Addict Picks the 2008 Comic Con Winners & Losers

July 28th, 2008

WINNER: The TV Addict! Not only was this TV Addict the only reporter in the TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES press room with the cajones to ask Brian Austin Green about 90210, theTVaddict.com got a very nice shout out from star Thomas Dekker [audio coming soon!]

LOSER: The TV Addict! Who apparently isn’t quite the Hollywood Power Player he wishes he were. How else to explain not being able to bypass around one thousand or so attendees to make it into the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA panel? But on the plus side, Ronald D. Moore [see picture above] and HEROES star Zachary Quinto did walk by whilst I waited in line. Oh the glamour of Comic Con!

WINNER: Showtime’s critically acclaimed series DEXTER played to a packed crowd of almost five thousand strong.

LOSER: Anyone who doesn’t own an iPhone or an iPod Touch. Since it was revealed, much to the disappointment of fans in the audience, that the upcoming DEXTER video game will only be available on the popular Apple devices.

NBC: Nothing But Comic Con

July 27th, 2008

Since we at theTVaddict.com are never ones to shy away from pointing out NBC’s boneheaded moves [see February's train-wreck of a KNIGHT RIDER movie], this TV Addict thinks it’s only fair to take a moment to praise the proverbial powers that be for doing something right for once.

Unlike ABC, CBS, the CW and FOX, NBC made the savvy decision to bring Comic Con to the millions of fans who couldn’t make it out to San Diego this weekend [Not to mention the thousands who weren't prepared to sleep outside or line up for hours to get into Saturday's highly anticipated HEROES Panel].

Not only did they post the HEROES panel in its entirety online. Well, except for that little bit where the SCREENED THE ENTIRE FRAKTASTIC THIRD SEASON PREMIERE [really, not at all bitter that I missed it!], they’ve also posted videos from the CHUCK, KINGS, KNIGHT RIDER and THE OFFICE panels which you can check out by clicking the link below.

Comic Con Live Blog: TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES

July 26th, 2008

terminator comic con 2008

11:40AM: The TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES panel started off with a seriously fraktastic trailer for the new season. Spoiler Alert, Summer Glau’s Cameron is alive — and did we mention awesome.

But on a more serious note, we’re pretty sure that the Connor Family, with the help of Derek Reese will build some sort of time-traveling device that will allow them jump to different time periods in their fight against SkyNet.

11:42AM: Josh Friedman, who’s moderating the panel starts by thanking the fans for their support. You’re welcome Josh.

11:46AM: By audience demand, the first question of the panel goes to Summer Glau. Friedman who isn’t surprised, asks, “Who’s better looking, me or Joss Whedon?”

11:50AM: Lena Headey on what Sarah would do with a day off? “She’d get some over the counter valium and track down Agent Ellison and have a good night in.”

11:53AM: Josh Friedman to actor Richard T. Jones, “Agent Ellison you made a really bold decision with your character to play him black.” Hilarious.

10 Reasons The TV Addict Loved THE BIG BANG THEORY Panel at Comic Con

July 25th, 2008

big bang theory

1. With the exception of the adorable Kaley Cuoco, the men of THE BIG BANG THEORY are actually kind of nerdy: Kunal Nayyar [Rajnesh] grew up in India playing amateur Badminton. Which it turns out isn’t nearly as cool in America. Simon Helberg’s [Wolowitz] response to what geeky about your real life was, “you can’t tell by looking at me!” Jim Parson [Sheldon] thinks the timber of his voice is a bit geeky, but he’s okay with it since it got him the job. Johnny Galecki grew up doing theatre which sounds cool on the West coast, but apparently just got him beat up in Chicago! While Co-creator Bill Prady revealed that he was 24 before he ever asked a woman out. ‘Nuff said!

2. Free Dating Advice: Bill Prady enlightened the audience on Wolowitz’s rules for dating. Proposition every woman, have no standards. Good to know.

3. Season Two Scoop: Co-Creator Chuck Lorre revealed that since THE BIG BANG THEORY is a comedy, odds are good that the Leonard/Penny relationship that was set up in the first season finale isn’t going to go well. Translation: Prepare for seven plus years of Ross and Rachel Part II.

Comic Con Live Blog: DEXTER

July 24th, 2008

5:54PM: This afternoon’s DEXTER panel is hosted by the show’s number one fan, E! Online’s Kristin, who swears her love of the show is genuine and that she’s not on Showtime’s payroll. The panel starts off with a chilling trailer for season three, which you can check out by clicking here and with Michael C. Hall discussing our new Assistant District Attorney, and possible future victim of Dexter’s, Miguel Prado. Played by Jimmy Smitts, Prado is a man“committed to family values, committed to cleaning up the streets.” And more importanatly, may be Dexter’s first real ‘friend.’

6:01PM: Executive Producers Melissa Rosenberg and Clyde Phillips reveal that season three will focus on Dexter taking “Harry’s Code” and turning it into his own. Rosenberg and Phillips also reveal that Lundy won’t be back and Deb will be back on the market.

6:03PM: Apparently Deb will have a normal relationship but not with whom you expect. Translation, this TV Addict’s going to go out on a limb and guess that Deb will be switching teams this season. I mean can you blame her. The second to last guy she dated tried to kill her!

6:05PM: Ex-BUFFY/ANGEL star Julie Benz would love to work on Joss Whedon’s DOLLHOUSE. Shocker! Julie asks us to start an internet rumor. Which on a totally unrelated note reminds me…. anyone else hearing that Julie Benz has been offered a guest spot on Joss Whedon’s DOLLHOUSE?
