Review: DURHAM COUNTY

September 7th, 2009

durham_countyBy: Aleks Chan

Like many a crime procedural, the opening scene is of a discernibly older man, with two much younger girls (extra creepy points if they’re in their school uniforms) in a secluded forest. If our basic detective skills cultivated by cable crime fighters (and DATELINE) have taught us anything, the girls won’t be turning in their homework the next day. But the sadistic way the girls meet their fate is gruesome – you’re never this uncomfortable when you watch CSI.

Through the branches and wood is a focused, studying eye – a witness to a double murder, the trembling figure leaves one of the girls’ plead for help unanswered. Before the bodies are discovered and an investigation is launched, the body of a schoolteacher washes up bludgeoned in the same fashion. That wandering eye was Ray Prager’s (Justin Louis), and when he’s not screaming at his wife or belittling his son, he’s moonlighting as a serial killer.

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Vampires Ignored by Entertainment Weekly

August 25th, 2009

godric

In their wildly-predictable August 7th cover story, Entertainment Weekly did a typically-lazy Top 20 list of the “Greatest Vampires Of All Time.” And as one might expect of a piece obviously slapped together in an attempt to boost sales by putting TRUE BLOOD’s Bill and Twilight’s Edward on the cover, the list… well, frankly, it sucked. Which is why CT put together his list of top five vamps who should have made the cut but didn’t.

Barnabas Collins, DARK SHADOWS
How the magazine expected to have its list taken seriously when it left off one of the most legendary blood suckers in entertainment history is beyond us. Barnabas single fangededly turned an about-to-be-canceled soap and made it the talk of the nation.

Godric, TRUE BLOOD
Because the mag never met a story it couldn’t miss the current peg to, they failed to even mention Allan Hyde’s majorly sexy vamp, who joins Bill and Eric in rounding out the show’s unholy trinity of undead hotties. In only a few episodes, he left an indelible image in the minds of viewers, many of whom would love nothing more than for the show to somehow let the undead hunk rise from his literal ashes like a phoenix.

Get Your GLEEK On!

August 14th, 2009

Rather than spoil what is unquestionably the highlight of GLEE’s third episode, someone at FOX it would seem came to their senses. Replacing the original clip that theTVaddict.com posted earlier today with a fantastic clip featuring Mr. Schuester (Broadway vet Matthew Morrison) gettin’ jiggy with it (do the kids still say that?) to the Jamie Foxx-Kanye West smash “Gold Digger”.

We interrupt your Friday to bring you one of the highlights from an upcoming episode of GLEE: The club’s interpretation of Salt-n-Pepa’s 1987 chart-topper “Push It.” Or as Coach Sue Sylvester calls it, “the most offensive thing I’ve seen in twenty years of teaching and that includes an elementary school production of Hair!”

Question of the Day: FOX, TNT, WTF?

August 10th, 2009

With today’s big news revolving around the announcement by FOX to extend Octomom Nadya Suleman’s fifteen minutes of fame by agreeing to air a two-hour documentary special titled OCTOMOM: THE INCREDIBLE UNSEEN FOOTAGE and TNT’s unexpected second season pick-up of the produce-by-numbers snoozefest that is Jada Pinkett Smith’s HAWTHORNE, this TV Addict can’t help but wonder: Which network has disappointed you more today — FOX or TNT?

TCA Live Blog Day 6: THE MIDDLE

August 8th, 2009

the_middle_cast

10:39AM: The panel for the Patricia Heaton laugher THE MIDDLE starts off on a very SCRUBS-centric note, with co-star Neil Flynn setting the record straight with regards to the fate his fan favorite character. “There’s a good chance I’ll pop up maybe just once… but we were done, the show ended, we were free to go and they [SCRUBS] started up again. Which is fine, but I’m very glad to be here… is that what I’m supposed to say?”

10:42AM: Really big stalker fan of series star Patricia Heaton? “You can see me at Ralph’s three times a week at Vine and Melrose,” reveals Patricia Heaton when asked what it’s like to be a working mother with four kids. “I buy my clothes in the boys section of Target. That’s what I wear, often three days in a row. Green Polyester sweatpants, hoodies, that’s me.” Jokes Flynn, “Target’s, America’s store.”

10:46AM: FYI: Nothing says funny like a comedy that deals with the struggles of real midwestern people, but in a celebratory way.

10:50AM: Turns out that the scene-stealing son of ‘Brick’ played by Atticus Shaffer is actually based on creator Eileen Heisler’s real-life son. I hope he’s not reading this.
