MOONLIGHT Gets Pimp’d

March 18th, 2008

Once again, your creative talents continue to amaze. Today’s fantastic header design [see above image] is courtesy of TV Addict reader twilight dew. Serious kudos to all the incredible MOONLIGHT entries. Rest assured this TV Addict will do my absolute best to ensure all you talented designers get your fifteen minutes of fame prior to MOONLIGHT’s April 25 return.

And on a somewhat related note. SUPERNATURAL fans, Holy Disappointment Batman!

When I gave readers the once in a lifetime opportunity to PIMP YOUR FAVORITE SHOW, I naturally assumed my inbox would be flooded with Jared and Jensen designs. After-all, a mere mention of anything Winchester could historically be counted on to get the fans up in arms. Who knew an early fourth season pick-up would so quickly turn the SUPERNATURAL fans into couch potatoes.

Looks like MOONLIGHT may have taken a bite out of the competition.

TV Addict Interview: MOONLIGHT Star Sophia Myles

January 18th, 2008

After numerous re-casts, re-shoots and behind-the-scenes drama, actress Sophia Myles is as surprised as anyone that MOONLIGHT has done so well. Yet six months and one People’s Choice Award later, here she is. Kind enough to take some time out of her, well, not so busy schedule [courtesy of the Writer’s Guild of America Strike] to talk to a group of reporters via conference call about MOONLIGHT’S jaw-dropping season finale airing tonight at 9PM on CBS (CTV in Canada).

The TV Addict: So honestly, after such an inauspicious start, are you surprised things have turned out so well for MOONLIGHT?
It’s definitely strange that MOONLIGHT has become such a force. I had no idea, coming over from here [from England], making the show, that it would have any life. But it’s become this organic thing that refuses to die. It seems to be getting stronger and stronger and more powerful with each episode.

Q. How was it you were cast in MOONLIGHT?
I was written a letter from the producers [Joel Silver] basicially asking me to come and do the part. At first I didn’t think it was legitimate, I couldn’t believe I’d be offered something so magical without an audition. But they already made the pilot and I was so intrigued to be in Los Angeles; being paid to do a fabulous job at Warner Bros. I couldn’t say no.

Jason Dohring Talks MOONLIGHT

December 12th, 2007

jason dohring moonlight interview
By: Amrie Cunningham

Readers of theTVaddict.com, and my column in particular [My Take on TV], know that there are few things I enjoy more than watching Jason Dohring do his thing (eating pizza from Frank’s in Lansdale, swooning over a certain Piemaker, and sleeping are probably the only three things that might tie for top 4 activities). Cut to me, trying to hold back on the gushing over Mr. Dohring on a great, informal conference call to celebrate new episodes of his show (one of my favorites this season), Moonlight. As fabulous on the phone as he is in person, Jason spent some time answering questions about the difference between Josef and Logan, the possibilities of some lovin’ for his character, the truly terrifying, albeit unconventional, fear he has, and how he prepares for a role.

How is the experience on Moonlight different from your experience on Veronica Mars?
Yeah, there’s a couple things I guess. The characters are obviously a bit different. You know, I think, they both have really interesting stories. Josef was kind of the expansion of a character, it’s like the 400 years aspect, as we’ll find more about as the story unfolds. There’s so much history. As an actor, each new script that comes out, you kind of add to that. You don’t know beforehand, when you first started, what your history is, but you sort of learn as you do it. You’re sort of picking that up and putting that in your character as you go. So I think it adds more to the storyline like that. And I think, just being on CBS is quite a bit different. It’s a bigger cast. You’re at Warner Bros which is quite close to my house so I don’t have to trek down to San Diego, which is kind of nicer. Just those two aspects more than anything else.

Do you know if the show will be delving more into his past, more of his past loves and how he managed to become so successful?
Absolutely. I think the successful thing [came] more in the first episode, with the hedge fund trader, and the real estate. In the episode this Friday, you find out basically why he’s always concerned about Mick dating humans and being with humans, like what is that? There’s basically a personal reason that Josef’s gone through. I don’t know if it’s proper or whatever, but I always kind of take the idea that maybe Josef has gone through what Mick’s going through. Maybe one time he was a good person, and you’ll sort of see glimpses of that, you know, with my former hairstyle, and my really nice suit in New York in this week’s episode.

Random Musings: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, JASON DOHRING, JOURNEYMAN

December 10th, 2007

Variety is reporting today that FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS move to Friday is giving the show a good shot at a third season. Said NBC exec David Nevins, “Between the upscale demos, the young demos and the enormous amount of DVR viewing this show attracts, this show is actually starting to work on Friday nights.” Which is good news, because this TV Addict is in serious denial and cannot fathom watching Landry thrown in prison. Unless of course it’s Sona Prison, where he’s sure to escape courtesy of cellmate Michael Scofield.

Attention MOONLIGHT Fans. The TV Addict will be taking part in a conference call with MOONLIGHT supporting player Jason Dohring this Wednesday at 11:35 (PST). If you’ve got a question for Dohring that doesn’t involve me coercing him to use his powers of persuasion to get Kristen Bell a guest shot on the show. Post away.

A quick reminder to fans of quality television everywhere. Both HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and JOURNEYMAN are new tonight. And since mostly everything else is a repeat, you simply have no excuse not to tune in. And don’t even think of flipping over to THE HILLS finale on MTV. Seriously, there’s no excuse.

TheTVaddict.com Interview: MOONLIGHT Star Alex O’Loughlin

November 23rd, 2007

Alex O’Loughlin
By: Amrie Cunningham [My Take on TV]

I have to admit it guys – Moonlight wasn’t on my radar until I heard about Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls…sigh) joining the cast. But I have to say that with each new episode I’m falling deeper and deeper into TV-boyfriend love with the main star, Alex O’Loughlin and his Mick St. John character. As luck would have it, he took some time out of his ridiculously busy shooting schedule to spend time chatting with some fans of the show (the interview jumps around a lot because questions came from quite a few people). Enjoy!

Can you give us any scoop if Coraline is back or what the whole thing is with that, and how that affects Mick?
Alex:
Yeah, I probably should mark my words, be careful how much I say. What I can tell you is Coraline has an uncanny knack of going too far for too long.

Okay, anything else?
Might you be seeing Coraline, the answer to that is yes.

What about the character of Mick really spoke to you and made you want to play this character?
I really liked his humor, was the first thing that came off the page. First of all, you read, as an actor, you read scripts every day and you read people’s interpretation of the characters everyday and some are more filled out than others and some are more one dimensional, and also, some characters speak to you more than others, and this guy, I just really got him. I understood his motivation and I understood his passion and I understood why he is conflicted and I understood why what he thought was funny was funny. Yeah, I just got him right away. I just it just stems down to empathy. I had empathy and understanding for him, and therefore I felt that I could justifiably play him.

David Greenwalt came to the show briefly, then left. What do you feel some of his contributions were to the show and to your character in particular?
It’s a little difficult to answer that question because the crossover before David and letting David go all happened pretty suddenly. He wasn’t on board with us for that long; he was on board for long enough to make a difference. Those exact differences, it’s not that he made any fundamental changes to my character, nobody does that but me, ha, but he helped us, ya know, in the time that we were in the transition phase of the original pilot presentation to the recasting into Moonlight; he helped us find what the new show was going to be. It’s not that different than the original concept. He was there when we all came together and said okay, what are the boundaries…what are the rules, and it was a relief that he was on the same page that we were. In the sense that this show isn’t about difficult books and goblins and cure-alls and monsters, that it’s about modern day vampires coming from a long lineage from first generation blood from the last 1500 years.

Fall TV’s FRIDAY Must Watch

September 28th, 2007

After garnering headlines such as “This Show Bites” and “MOONLIGHT a draining experience”, you may be surprised to discover that this TV Addict genuinely found MOONLIGHT entertaining.

Now, before you accuse this TV Addict of being an unapologetic VERONICA MARS fanboy. Consider this. My positive review isn’t at all related to the fact Jason Dohring is now a series regular on the show. In fact, he does such a poor job in his opening scene that I can only assume he was doing a cold read of the script. Thankfully, his second scene is a vast improvment and somewhat of a depressing reminder that Logan Echolls won’t be returning to television anytime soon.

Simply put, MOONLIGHT is pure escapist entertainment. The ideal Friday night antitode to a long and stressful week. The story is intriguing and leading man Alex O’Loughlin will no doubt one day light up the big screen.

Decide for yourself, tonight at 9PM on CBS.

The TV Addict’s Weekly SCI FI Round Up

August 17th, 2007

TheTVaddict.com is thrilled to have teamed up with our friends at SyFy Portal to give you a weekly round up of some of the biggest news in nerd SCI FI entertainment.

For some inexplicable reason, HEROES has cast another former Trek legend. This time, bringing on Nichelle Nichols for five or six episodes. Which begs the obvious question — does anyone else think it’s far too early in HEROES run to be going to the ’stunt casting’ well this many times? How are they going to revitalize the show in season seven? [click for more]

SCI FI has announced their fall schedule and four of the five Cylon Gods agree — it rocks thanks to a November BATTLESTAR GALACTICA mini-series, and the upcoming holiday movie event TIN MAN. [click for more]

JERI RYAN’S former stalker has been arrested again. We have a feeling, Jeri Ryan’s new co-star Sebastian SHARK won’t be defending him. [click for more]

Executive producer Joel Silver promises that his new show MOONLIGHT will not be ANGEL 2.0. That sigh you heard, thousands of really disappointed ANGEL fans. [click for more from SyFy] or check out the original article at classic-horror.com

And finally, In spite of predominantly negative reviews, SCI FI’s latest series FLASH GORDON pulled in decent ratings. Having seen the second and third episode, this TV Addict can’t help but hope fans give the show another look. The show’s second and third episodes are a vast improvement over the first. With the writers realizing that FLASH GORDON is supposed to be light-hearted escapist fun, not serious and dull.

First Look: Jason Dohring in MOONLIGHT

August 12th, 2007

If you’re like this TV Addict and still slightly depressed by the one-two-combo of the cancellation of VERONICA MARS and the recent news that Kristen Bell won’t be visiting the set of LOST anytime soon, perhaps this photo will cheer you up.

Jason Dohring stars as Josef, the eternally young, wealthy and mischievous vampire who relishes his uniqueness, on MOONLIGHT. VERONICA MARS it ain’t, but hey — we have a feeling that in Josef, the Logan Echolls attitude will be alive and well come this fall on CBS.
