Spotlight on HEROES Star Zachary Quinto

September 22nd, 2008

sylar zachary quinto heroes season 3

In anticipation of tonight’s third season premiere of HEROES [see preview], theTVaddict.com thought we’d spend a few moments shining a spotlight on actor Zachary Quinto, who has risen to fame playing America’s favorite super-villain Sylar.

On the new season: In a far more diplomatic manner than this TV Addict might have put it, Zachary Quinto promises that the new Chapter of HEROES, titled “Villains” will be far more entertaining that last season’s suck fest underwhelming “Generations” installment, “I think that the scripts this season are just, you know, more exciting and more action-packed, and more dynamic than ever. I think it just keeps getting better and more – you know, every time I open a script it’s truly a thrill.”

On what’s in store for Sylar: There’s a lot of unexpected turns this year for my character and every time I open a script there’s just a different kind of challenge. Whether it’s a either physical challenge in terms of a fight sequence or a stunt sequence that we’re doing, or a special effects sequence that we’re doing, or emotional challenge in terms of what Sylar’s coming up against in himself, and what he’s coming up against outside of himself with the people that he’s interacting with. I think the tapestry of that has been incredibly rich this year for my character, in particular. So it’s been really – it’s been a ride for sure.

A Sneak Peek at HEROES Season Three

September 22nd, 2008

heroes cast season 4
By Melissa Girimonte

There was much excitement outside the Varsity Theater in Toronto as eager HEROES fans waited for a sneak peek at Season Three, courtesy of Global Television. I arrived at the theater and was met by picketers: men dressed in black, with dark sunglasses, holding signs that said “Darkness is coming”, and chanting phrases like “Make a choice, good or evil”, and “Level 5 is where evil resides”.

Once everyone was seated in the theater, and a large group photo of everyone in Sylar masks was taken, we were treated to the first hour of the Season Three Premiere. A few days later, I am still trying to decide if I was impressed or not.

I have always found it’s really tough to judge a season of HEROES based on its season premiere alone. I admit, in the first season, I wasn’t immediately hooked, but I was glad that I continued to watch, as it built into a fantastic tale. Season One was a tough act to follow, and Season Two fell short, mainly because of its length due to the WGA strike, and because of what I’d consider “filler”. I was very annoyed by most of Hiro’s story arc in Japan with Takezo Kensei, and the West/Claire romance. I do hold firm, though, that if it was a standard season, the annoying bits would have had far less impact on the whole.

Exclusive Interview: HEROES Star Milo Ventimiglia

September 19th, 2008

milo ventimiglia heroes interview

At the recent Television Critics Association Press Tour, HEROES star Milo Ventimiglia was kind enough to take a few minutes out of his busy schedule to preview the next chapter of HEROES, which premieres on Monday and is ominiously titiled, “Villains.”

There has been a lot of talk about big changes when HEROES returns on Monday. What can you spill?
Milo Ventimiglia: There’s not a lot I can actually talk about.

Great thanks!
[Laughs] The one thing I can say is that Peter is not quite himself.

Care to elaborate?
If the first season was about Peter finding himself and the second was about Peter losing himself. The third season has Peter not quite himself. Peter is always evolving, moving and bouncing around. Right now, Peter is one of the most powerful heroes, which means at some point, the guy has to fall. Which is going to be really fascinating to watch.

WINNER: The TV Addict! Not only was this TV Addict the only reporter in the TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES press room with the cajones to ask Brian Austin Green about 90210, theTVaddict.com got a very nice shout out from star Thomas Dekker [audio coming soon!]

LOSER: The TV Addict! Who apparently isn’t quite the Hollywood Power Player he wishes he were. How else to explain not being able to bypass around one thousand or so attendees to make it into the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA panel? But on the plus side, Ronald D. Moore [see picture above] and HEROES star Zachary Quinto did walk by whilst I waited in line. Oh the glamour of Comic Con!

WINNER: Showtime’s critically acclaimed series DEXTER played to a packed crowd of almost five thousand strong.

LOSER: Anyone who doesn’t own an iPhone or an iPod Touch. Since it was revealed, much to the disappointment of fans in the audience, that the upcoming DEXTER video game will only be available on the popular Apple devices.

NBC: Nothing But Comic Con

July 27th, 2008

Since we at theTVaddict.com are never ones to shy away from pointing out NBC’s boneheaded moves [see February's train-wreck of a KNIGHT RIDER movie], this TV Addict thinks it’s only fair to take a moment to praise the proverbial powers that be for doing something right for once.

Unlike ABC, CBS, the CW and FOX, NBC made the savvy decision to bring Comic Con to the millions of fans who couldn’t make it out to San Diego this weekend [Not to mention the thousands who weren't prepared to sleep outside or line up for hours to get into Saturday's highly anticipated HEROES Panel].

Not only did they post the HEROES panel in its entirety online. Well, except for that little bit where the SCREENED THE ENTIRE FRAKTASTIC THIRD SEASON PREMIERE [really, not at all bitter that I missed it!], they’ve also posted videos from the CHUCK, KINGS, KNIGHT RIDER and THE OFFICE panels which you can check out by clicking the link below.

HEROES Villains Teaser

July 7th, 2008

While the teaser trailer [above] for the third season of HEROES titled “VILLAINS” certainly looks to be a step in the right direction. This TV Addict is still reeling from the train—wreck that was HEROES “GENERATIONS”. Will I be ready to jump back on the bandwagon come September 2008. Stay Tuned…

Play Kristen Bell’s Agent

February 28th, 2008

kristen bell heroes

In yesterday’s TVGuide, Super Scooper Michael Ausiello revealed that Kristen Bell has yet to sign on for a third season of HEROES.

Cue deep sigh of relief.

For if the lackluster season of HEROES, combined with the brilliance that is LOST illustrated anything. It’s that Ms. Bell made a career mis-tep so serious, you’d think Logan Echolls was running the show.

That said, thanks to the WGA Strike [never thought I'd use that phrase in a sentence] one doesn’t need to harness Hiro’s time-travelling abilities to make things right.

TV Addict Interview: Thomas Dekker Talks TERMINATOR (and HEROES!)

January 13th, 2008

The TV Addict and Thomas Dekker

Attending Wednesday night’s party celebrating the launch of TERMINATOR THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES was akin to living out an episode of ENTOURAGE. From booze to babes and celebrities every-which-way this TV Addict was well, in TV heaven.

Not surprisingly, I wasn’t the only one.

Dancing away to the beat of his own drummer was TERMINATOR star Thomas Dekker [see video]. And following the year he had, who can blame him.

After surviving nine nerve-wracking auditions, an untimely Writer’s Guild of America work-stoppage and that whole HEROES controversy, the world is finally going to get to witness the fruits of Dekker’s labour as FOX launches their highly anticipated new series TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES.

“It’s not a big day, I’m just going to get some Chinese food,” joked Dekker when I sat down with him at Hollywood’s historic Roosevelt Hotel the following afternoon. “No actually, I’m terrified, I’m very excited and worried. It better do well after all of this!”

‘By all of this’ Dekker is of course referring to not only having shot the first nine episodes of the action-packed adrenaline rush that is THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, but to his time spent over the last few weeks tirelessly promoting how the fight for the future begins tonight at 8PM on FOX.

Just how nervous is Dekker about stepping into the now iconic role of John Connor? “When I first heard about TERMINATOR, my initial reaction was f*ck, they’re going to ruin it. But when I talked to showrunner Josh [Friedman], director David [Nutter] and producer James [Middleton], learned why they wanted to make the show, what it was about and how much they cared, I couldn’t have been happier.”

Which is a good thing, because Dekker sits down with this TV Addict following three hours of non-stop interviews. “This is where as an actor you have to live with yourself and choose projects that you care about,” acknowledges Dekker. “I don’t mind talking for three hours about something I’m proud of and adore. But if I had to talk about something I was embarrassed of… that would not be good.”
